Check out the app TransparentDock. Lets you get rid of the dock background, change the background color, change the color of or remove the "running" triangles, and re-position the dock so that it is pinned to different places.

Well, that image I got from Atlus, but I mean there is tons of artwork out there if you just look around. To be honest, 4chan.org is actually a decent place to look. They have two wallpaper boards, as well as a high-res board with images big enough to be used and still look great.
