Dude, they screwed over John K's Ren and Stimpy far worse than they ever did Zim. Some of which might've been a good thing (the new uncensored R&S they had on SPIKE was a little too over-the-top in the gay dept.), but overall they did everything they could to destroy what was great in that show.

Most of the later episodes were written to piss Nickelodeon off, until finally they fired John K (the flippin CREATOR and voice of half the show) and continued making episodes without him. Billy West filled in the rest of the voices, so for a time he was doing both Ren AND Stimpy's dialogue.

I just remember reading all of this in an animation magazine and being highly pissed off at the time.

Jhonen and Rikki Simmons aren't doing any more original art for it.
So, the fans get shit 'cause Nickelodeon doesn't give a shit about them.

The only thing actually worth watching on normal Nickelodeon now is Fairly OddParents. That's it.

I don't think JohnK did any R and S voices until the SpikeTV show. I need to pick up the Zim set.

Nick isn't at fault here. They expressly told Jhonen what would be acceptable for covers. Jhonen went outside their limits. Cover got axed. Too bad, so sad.

While I do like Jhonen's work very much, he (and everyone who's angry at the cover thing) must realize that Zim is not a property being sold to the fans. They are a niche market segment. Zim is being sold to children. Nick's argument is kids don't like seeing stuff like that cover -- reference Transformers: The Movie. That is why the cover got axed.

Jhonen's reaction is from being told at each step while making the show that he couldn't do something -- well, why was he making a show on a children's network if he didn't want to remain within their guidelines? That's a bad situation for a creative like Jhonen to put themselves in. I don't really agree with his decision on the covers, nor do I have much sympathy for him.

On the pilot commentary he says he didn't expect the show to even go past pilot. He figured he'd have this short cartoon and he'd go back to comics. This very well might not be the case, but my feeling is that they found out they could get away with some awesome stuff and just kept going for it. While a show that doesn't follow the guidelines doesn't exactly mean greatness, the things about the show I do like goes against what I imagine the cartoon tv show safety rules are.

Nickelodeon Chopped the hell out of the Christmas episode, I forgot exactly what they cut out, but jhonen said since it was his last episode he was going to do whatever he wanted with it. (I love minimoose "He's been here the whole time")

Zim was on "Nick Teen" for a WHILE... I think they're still trying to market it to teens and up.
...and if they're not marketing it to fans, I don't know where they expect to get money from. At least Media Blasters realizes it.

Frankly, I think the revered Mr. Vasquez is doing just as much for the fans as Nick is, at this point. The least he can do now is release hi-resolution art somewhere on the net at let fans make their own covers.
