FarCry...

I finally got around to downloading the FarCry research demo, and the only thing I can say is WOW! Everything is done so well in this game, I didn't think that it would be able to be pulled off.

Ubi Soft has been touting how it has this so called "revolutionary AI", the only thing I can say is, it absolutly is. I started off the demo on this island trying to sneak into this research facility. They start you off with a sniper rifle, so I see guys across the water on an island, and start picking them off. Little do I know, they set off an alarm, and a helicopter takes off looking for me. Seeing this helicopter, I hide in the bushes, stupid AI won't be able to find me from the air! The helicopter finally lands and stops looking for me, but the next thing I know, I get shot up from the back. I realize that the AI enemys took out a boat, road around the island so I couldn't see them, and flanked me. Unbelievable, absolutly unbelievable. AI is just getting absolutly rediculous, hopefully we'll see more games with this type of attention payed to the enemy AI, not just FPS. Here's hoping.

But not only is the AI that good, everything else is handled so well. The actual shooting action stuff ( :wtf: ) is done very well. A mix between sim and a straight up shoot em up. With the expanding cursor that decreases your aim when you run, and gets damn accurate when you crouch. The guns themselves are great, it seems like there is a sniper, P-90, rocket launcher, M-16 of sorts, and a sick sick handgun.

Then the graphics, which are IMO getting upto the quality of Half Life 2. Rediculously high res textures gives everything a polished and good look. The guns themselves sporting these textures look uber realistic. And the character models are also higher quality than I ever expected from this game. All of them are animated extremely well, with a decent poly count making up every enemy, when a bunch of them get on screen man does it slow down on my computer (well, until I shoot all them mofo's).

All I have to say is I am beyond impressed with this game, definatly a purchase when it comes out. NOW WHERE IS THE MULTIPLAYER DEMO UBI!!?!?!?!?!

I like the look and sound of FarCry, but seriously.. please tell Ubi to stop sending advertisments =(

I've seen the AI do some really stupid things in both FarCry demos... but it's still a really awesome game (and yes, stuff like them taking the boats to persue is pretty sweet).

Is Farcry for the pc aswell?

So far it's only on the PC.

It's coming to Xbox eventually.

been playing the PC reviewable build. it's so much more polished than the first demo they released. the a.i. has been really good too. just swimming up to the abandoned aircraft carrier now. really amazing.

also, i've been having a blast driving these vehicles in 3rd person view. drove the buggy right off a cliff once, and dove out in mid-air and hit the water around the same time as the jeep. as i swam towards the ruptured hull of the aircraft carrier, i saw the vehicle sink to the bottom of the ocean behind me while bullets rippled past me in slow motion underwater. :eek:

i don't know much about far cry, but let me just say that ubisoft is at the top of their game. nearly all of their releases in the last year have been gold. never thought that would happen..

So there was a second demo? Hmmm...maybe it will run on my PC. I couldn't run the first on my machine (p4 2.6 with Radeon9000pro -runs DX2 and UT2K4 near perfect at 1152 :)). I had the same problem with the Beyond Good and Evil Demo as well (Ubisoft as well), so who knows.

It should be able to run it perfectly, well not perfectly, but close. That's about what i have, but i have the 9200 with 128 in it. Unreal also runs perfect on mine, so im sure it'll work fine. The graphics in the new demo are sick. Especially the indoor environments, talk about lighting :eek:

I read the second demo has large performance increases, and who knows maybe compatability as well. I found the content of the first demo to be more enjoyable, but the second one is still cool.

You might try making sure you have the latest Direct X 9 stuff installed, I had a problem with Beyond Good and Evil way back, and obviously your PC is more than capable of running this game.
