Dawn of the Dead Remake - The Official Thread - Now with Unrated footage !!!

The day has come. The dead will walk the earth again today, as remake of Dawn of the Dead opens in the theaters nationwide.

I will be seeing it tomorrow, with a friend of mine(hopefully, if the bastard actually shows up), and while I still hate the idea of infected super fast zombies, clips of the remake I've seen so far make it seem to be at least decent action/horror flick. Sure its not going to be up to the level of the original which still is one of the best zombie films ever made, and unfortunately has too much of 28 Days later influence all over it, but I still looking forward enjoying some zombie carnage.

Here is Ebert's review, who gives it 3 stars, and doesnt bitch more than usual about film's flaws. He must have liked fast, smarter zombies more than slow, lumbering, dumb zombies of old (something he did bitched about in his RE review).

I'm catching it tonight with some of my friends, I'm really looking forward to it and hope it doesn't (Enter complain about original mode) dissapoint me like the original (exit). I've heard the make up effects in this are really good, I'm really looking forward to it.

Well, Maybe gore fx are good, but definately not regular zombie make up. Most of those from what I heard are regular looking people with just white contacts. I hope its not that bad :(

I hope there are 6-foot tall walking bananas roaming around.

The regular zombie effects in the first Dawn weren't that great really, just blue people, but the gore was still really good. Day of the Dead had really, really good zombie effects though, like the jawless zombie at the beginning.

Some of you might complain about not enough gore, but I think it was the PERFECT amount of gore.

It wasn't a scary movie, but it had me on the edge of my seat a lot.

I LOVE the look of the movie, the colors, the way the camera moves, everything.

Even the opening and closing credits are interesting.

Tom Savini has a cameo.

I thought all 3 of the chicks were pretty hot also.

WOW. Now THAT was a zombie movie. Carnage from start to finish amd I said "Oh My God" at 2 parts. One right after another. I saw some obvious gore edits, but what got in was intense. Really well done, simple plot, some funny parts, good and bad writing (there are a few really terrible lines) but a must for horror fans. Most of the movie was like the last 20 minutes of 28 Days Later.

Except with less British people.

Was there a new Van Helsing trailer before the movie? I heard there was going to be.

Yes there was. Same one that hit the net a few weeks ago. There were 17 minutes of commercials and previews. 17 minutes!

I'm a HUGE zombie fan and I was a little worried about this "remake".
Well it's not much of a remake and it could have been titled something else, but it's a amazing horror flick.
The zombies and the entire theme of the movie is more chaotic than other flicks in this genre. I can't even begin to explain how fucked things get, and how fast it gets there.
It's the most realistic view of this type of horror film as far as "if it really happened".
It's awesome.

Perfect description. This is exactly how I imagine an epidemic like this would happen in real life. Absolute survival of the fittest, carnage everywhere, horrible situations, just hell on earth. This one is really the first movie to get the amount of zombies right, they get into situations where you really see just hordes of zombies and get the idea of how catastrophic the country is.

Plus I think this has some of the best make-up effects in awhile. The blood bill must have been half of this movies budget. I can't wait for the DVD.

More people need to see this, I'm dieing to talk about it.

Wow. You guys are hyping me up. Though I'm happy to now know that I should go into the movie with the mindset of just seeing a zombie movie and not a remake. Can't wait to check this out in a couple days.

That movie just really never let up. It's everything I ever want in a zombie movie. Gore, good characters, good humor, gore, tons and tons of fuckin zombies and it's really, really bleak. It plays similarly to the original, but instead of having about an hour of nothing happening like the first Dawn, a bunch of sticky shit was going on.

I loved it. One of the best zombie, if not the best, zombie movie I've seen.

it is really good. SO much gore. There were a couple questionable plot points, but nothing that really bugged me. Zombie fans need to see this.

I think half the theater i was in hated the movie. A lot of people walked out as soon as the credits started rolling, but the ending doesn't finish till the credits are done. They were muttering bad things about it. Mostly just stupid teen girls doing that though, the other half liked it a lot.

I'm gonna have to check this out when I get the chance. How is it compared to 28 Days Later? I loved the first Dawn of the Dead but this one looks changed quite a bit. Zombie movies are still pwn though.

I like it better than 28 days later, mostly because 28 days later loses steam once they meet up with the military. DotD is far more consistent throughout. It just keeps building to the finish and throwing more gore at you. But there are a lot of similiarities between the two movies.

Yeah, DOTD > 28 Days Later.

And I liked 28 Days Later.

Why weren't there any cell phones?!

But besides that, yeah, I'd say probably the best zombie movie yet.

They'd be able to communicate with other people...relay information... Considering how everyone in America has a cell phone now, they're convientely not shown at all to limit the people's options.

Also, DotD clearly had a much huger budget than 28 days later, which is why we get to see zombie hordes, instead of empty streets.

Actually, I think they spent a lot money getting london streets empty for shooting those empty streets.

I like this Dawn more than 28DL too. And really the only thing that this movie has in common with the original is a pregnant woman, and the mall. Everything else is different. I read a review for this last night and it said "probably the most expensive Troma movie ever made" and considering James Gunn wrote it, you can see his past Troma roots really poke put in this. Except Troma movies are even more over the top.

I'm mixed on this movie. I thought the first half was AMAZING. Simply AMAZING. The fact that, unlike the original, which slowly built up the zombie problem, the fact that the world basically turned to hell overnight was very freaky. They did an awesome job showing all the chaos and really built an effective sense of panic and creepiness. It was intense and really well done. The twist with the security guys showing up on the second floor of the mall and the problems that resulted was a nice change from the original, too. And the on-going thing with the cop and the owner of the gun store talking back and forth using only eraser boards was very cool...in fact, it was something I wish was delved into a bit more.

Some nice humor in the film, too. The part where the husband is chasing the car like the T-1000 and suddenly veers off to attack the woman standing on her yard had me cracking up. That, and the "celeberty sniping" game they played with Andy the gun store owner.

Then came the black guy and his girlfriend. That whole scene with them and the baby basically marked the turning point of the movie- the whole thing basically fell apart from there. The guy started doing things that NO ONE WOULD DO.

Come on, he ties up his girlfriend, she dies, turns into a zombie, and he still tries to deliver her baby? Then the old woman comes in with the gun, and he's all like, "You tryin' to kill my family?!" while holding the zombie baby. Come on, if he had showed any signs of being insane before that I might have bought the whole scene but he didn't.

That scene annoyed me because they had made things so realistic (well, for a zombie movie, anyway). People acted the way you'd expect them to act in such a situation, and suddenly with that scene they just got stupid. Another example:

The cute redhead suddenly turns retarded and decided to drive all by herself into thousands of zombies just to resuce a dog.

Please.

A simple propane tank suddenly becoming a nuclear bomb and killing hundreds of zombies (without scratching the truck that was 2 feet away) was pretty stupid, too.

Plus, the lack of gore was a shame, but it didn't take away from the movie. Movies just aren't as gory anymore.

Oh, and that chainsaw accident near the end was a real shame, huh?

BTW, it was cool that the one security guy that was the biggest asshole turned into almost the hero of the movie.

One possible major fuck up, though:

The movie takes place in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is in the MIDDLE OF THE UNITED STATES. The only body of water they could possibly sail away on in a boat would be either Lake Superior or Lake Michigan, and lakes aren't known for their abundance of islands...dumbasses.

Guess they should have stayed at the mall, huh? ;) Because even if they did manage to make it back into the boat, they were out of food, water and gas. They're fucked.


Overall, a good movie, though some of the stupid shit that popped up in the middle dragged down a movie that could have been great. I thought the original was better and had a better sense of logic. I mean, if the zombies in the remake can tear through a chain-link fence, they should have been able to break through the mall's glass doors with no problem...at least the people in the original had the good sense to block off the doors with trucks so they zombies couldn't break in. Also, they at least tried to explain the whole zombie situation a little more in the original, and show how it was affecting the country.

But in a way, NOT knowing what was happening everywhere else made things a bit MORE creepy in the remake. It increased the sense of isolation and made things seem more girm and uncertain. Both movies did things well, just not the same things.

Some nice vehicular violence, but aside from a few bites and some headshots (including one really nice one done point-blank by a shotgun), the movie wasn't very gory AT ALL, and anyone who says it was doesn't know what a gory horror movie is. You may see it waved around but it's almost always cut away from. I want to know what was cut out when Vin Rhames has the shot gun at that group (during the truck scene). There were so many cool parts. Oh, and the glass they use in mall doors is shatter proof. That shit is really hard to break. Sombies dont have that kind of intelligence to throw shit.

P.S- I agree with the baby scene pretty much, but I can see why he did it. Needed more set up though. And for the dog, stupid yes, but I can see why she did it (that's all she had left in her life). There really was too many characters, a lot of people were just weren't necessary.

Oh, yeah, I forget about the wooden stake bit, that WAS pretty cool. And yeah, the chainsaw on the zombies part was good too. Okay, there was SOME nice gore, but it was still quite lacking compared to the original. The whole thing in the original was the gore from the zombies feeding on the humans. In the original, if a group of zombies fell on a human, they showed the guy being torn apart and eaten. In the remake the zombies just cover him up and you have to assume what they did. :(

As for the shatter-proof glass, we're talking thousands of zombies here. If 4 or 5 can tear through a chain-link fence, thousands can break through even shatter-proof glass doors, even if just by sheer weight of numbers.

Would they just keep pushing foward? Not sure if the zombies 40 rows back would know what's going on. Everything about zombies is assumed anyway so it's not like we can exactly predict what they would do. It seems like they only come to life if they hear or see someone. Look at the part with the dog. When they realized there was a doggy door they went nuts.

I'm surprised they didnt show them reinforcing the doors though, the way they sealed it up in the original was cool. The original also had aboue a half hour of nothing really happening to...so when the carnage finally came at the end, it had to be good. It really goes back to how FvJ was. The MPAA gets cranky with guts, but the red stuff can flow like cheap wine. Makes you wonder what kind of shit they can do now if FX crews were allowed to go all out. I think they said they cut 5 minutes of gore (the DVD will be a directors cut).

Point. Still, with thousands of zombies out there, I'd feel a lot better if the door were blocked off.

Also, in the original, didn't they spend a while going through the mall, store by store, killing zombies, eventually winding up with a huge pile of bodies that they had to dispose of? The mall in the remake was pretty much empty in comparison.

That said, I think I did like the remake's grim tone more compared to the somewhat campy tone of the original. I really need to rent the first one now that the remake's fresh in my mind.

Yeah, I liked how they lured the zombies away from where the trucks were and then made a mad dash to get them and drive them to block off the enterances. Little things like that made the original seem a tad better thought out.

In the re-make the mall had been closed up fairly tightly from what I understood leaving only nighttime employees, not sure though. But these zombies wouldn't exactly be very easy to clear out. I mean... they're insane. You really couldn't get away shoving pies in the faces of these zombies (The situational humor in the original was really stupid, I'm sorry).

The blond from the beginning hooked up with the old Hugh Jackman-looking guy. The Blond with the curly hair (the one that "split" later) hooked up with the dude with the sideburns that owned the boat. The redhead hooked up with the one security guard that turned on the other two and helped the survivors.

Well, Just came back, and I am somewhat dissapointed.

Yes, I still HATE the idea of fast, running zombies. I miss the days of old, I guess. Those old zombies (especially in Day of the Dead) were as ferocious as the new ones, so there wasnt really need to make them run and all.

Also in some scenes they go through hell to get heroes, and in other just friggin stay there watching. Doesnt make sense. Especially at the end when they get on the boat and Michael has a hertbreaking goodbye scene, and huge crowd of zombies just stand in the background. I guess they just didnt want to interrupt that heartfelt moment.

Not to say I hated this. No, I was fairly entertained, gore was great, and there were plenty of great moments. But it didnt worked as a whole. I pretty much agree on most of the points Dolemite made about too many characters, unnecessare and stupid moments. "You want to kill my family? bit was plain fucking stupid. Good to see old lady be so tought and give that stupid asshole a death he deserved :lol:

The redhead teenager also was incredibly stupid, especially her actions with the dog. I didnt want to see the dog get hurt too, but what she did, and what it led to was really dumb. Same goes for dumb ass Steve. But it was a pleasure to see his brains fly in the air :)

I liked the grim tone of the film, all the destruction and appocalyptic mood. But I felt it was a bit too bleak, and lacked feeling of hope that original Dawn and Day had. Especially if you take into account what happened after credits rolled. Bummer. I do kinda like my horror films to give maybe a gleamer of hope. But this ended like they got to the Island of the Dead :lol:. Native zombies included

Gore was awesome though, and there were alot of it, most of which was good. Zombie make up, blood squirts, head shots, awesome chainsaw bits were all great and entertaining. Loved that.

I also loved few character moments like friendship with Andy, and I felt really sad about the outcome. Same goes for the father scene.

Fat woman scene was a riot. The heroine goes into this dumbass mode to go and check if she is allright, and then comes the Fat Charge !!!! :lol:

Yes, Whole plan on going to island on Lake Michigan was somewhat dumb. But unlike original they didnt have helicopter pilot, so they were screwed. WI location didnt help them much either. Sure we dont have a Road Whatever mall, but oh well :)

Still this was better than 28 days later, at least there were REAL zombies this time around. Still 28 had a better ending IMO. Here when it ended with blaring hard rock song, it reminded me more of House of the Dead. It was quite inappropriate.

Hmm, maybe they dont like fire, but there were just standing there, and there were ways around it. But it would have broken the moment, as I said above. On related note, would the set on fire really hurt zombie? When they set those ones in the garage, they died pretty fast. Not sure if it would work that well.

I loved Zombie Beer Keg moment. That was really great. But such a big explosion so close to the car and they still ok. But we can let that slide.

i agree with the stupid plot moments, even mentioned them in my first post, but i don't think they detract that much from the movie. RotK had ones that were far worse, part of the reason I didn't like it as much as the first two in that trilogy. It's surprising to me that some people here seem to disregard the problems in RotK, but find fault with DotD because of much more minor issues.

the bus was indeed blocking access to the dock. They drove it right out on there over the water and it was wide enough so the zombies couldn't get around it. There was no plot hole there.

I loved the ending and the way it was presented.

Just got back... and my opinion is pretty meh. It was a decent enough Zombie Flick... but it didn't live up to it's namesake.

First of all why the hell did they bother to call it Dawn of the Dead in the first place? Inspired by the original script by George Romero? WTF? Let's see Zombies... a mall... oh and lets steal a couple of lines from the script... yeah that's really inspired by it. I would have enjoyed the film much more if they had not called it Dawn of the Dead.

That said, it did have some good gore moments and some fun parts... but I'm really getting sick of Zombie movies with complete and utter idiots for characters. Especially that goddamn redhead... she should have died, that's all there is to it. And leaving the mall to go out on fucking Lake Michigan is just plain stupid.

I really think they shouldn't have had so many characters... it would have been a much better film if there could have been more character development.

I didn't see anything wrong with leaving the mall. They realised no one was going to come rescue them. Eventually the zombies would get in or they would just run out of food so they had to do something. If they make it to an island they have a chance to live without too much fear, start farming and try to make a life out of it. Seems like a better option to me.

I didn't have a problem with the number of characters. Just because they're there it doesn't mean they all have to be fully fleshed out. People need to be there to get killed. It's like the red shirts on Star Trek, just there to die.

First, I've got to say... what is with all of the zombie movies lately? For a long time, nothing, and then, in the last few years, Resident Evil, House of the Dead, 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, and at least RE2 coming. Sweet. (Well, except for House.)

As a fan of the original, I was very weary when I heard that this movie was being made. However, I'm glad to say that I really enjoyed it. It didn't try to remake the original, just be sort of an homage to it, and that was the best way to do it. The beginning was just nuts - an absolute perfect way to start the movie. And it was funny that a character I absolutely hated for the first half - the main security guard - ended up being one of my favorite in the second.

I didn't have a problem with the actions of either Omar (whatever his character's name was) or the red-haired dog lover. If you were put into that kind of position, how can you say that you'd have a rational head to you? The world has gone to utter hell, and in that kind of spot, I'm sure people would try to cling on to what pieces of "normality" that they possibly could. It meant everything to Omar to be a father. And how many pet owners would rush into a burning building to save their pet? But like I said, in that kind of a situation, you aren't always going to react rationally.

Fast zombies - it's tough. I found them interesting in 28 Days Later, but wasn't sure I wanted to see zombies like that all of the time. However, seeing them like that here as well, I'm liking them more. I'm not saying that every zombie movie should have fast zombies, but I do think it makes things interesting.

I would, though, like to see a zombie movie sometime where the people in the movie have SEEN zombie movies. I'd like to see the characters, for a change, have some idea about how to handle zombies, and bring in new problems that they have to deal with. Not that I horribly mind it, but every zombie movie is always "no idea what is going on, get some clue that it's re-animation, figure out the headshot thing, learn the hard way that people who get bitten come back."

I agree they had driven the van onto the dock, knocking some of it apart. When it it exploded there was enough wreckage and fire to make even the most determined zombie just stand there. I think there was even a gap between the land and the dock. And the impression I got from the video at the end was that they were on the boat for awhile. Could they see that island from the mainland?

That's how I rationalize both of their actions. They were both trying to hold on to the last shreds of their lives. Really fucked up situations for both of them and to us it seems like really irrational behavior, but in those characters mindsets (just think about what they have seen and run from up to that point) it was all they could do. Although why would you let your wife go through that? And you can't tell me you wouldn't know what was going to happen to your "family" when you saw that shit going down.

And that fat bitch could move man, someone should make a zombie track and field team with those sprinters.

I agree with Bbobb again. It they were in Florida, California or any other place near the ocean, then sure, but Lake Michigan?. They should have went to Canada instead :)

But like I mentioned they didnt have a pilot, so they were screwed this time.

Well, I can understand the love for the dog, but with dead wife and zombie baby. He went total nuts, and unfortunately they spent soo much time setting up that, that could have been used better. Great moment for the baby of the dead though. EEeeeee !! Bam !!! :lol: Made me laugh.

This movie also takes record for number of peole been hit by the car/truck. When the truck with survivors was backing up, it his like 7 zombies in the sequence. Fun stuff :p

Spealing of dead running. Since they dead, I guess they can run forever, so initially they can chase you endlessly, unless they get distracted on the way by something else.

Also it was strange that dead didnt touch the dog. In original dead were following the hunger instinct, and would attack anything living to eat. These zombies must have all been dog lovers :p

But isn't that how zombies are? They're not terribly smart, it's all basic instinct at that point. They pretty much just stand around and wait for something edible to come by. They catch wind of something and its fucking on man. I thought that scene was set up pretty well. They were taking a huge risk just by going out of the mall, and even if just one zombie saw them come out of the manhole, there would have been more coming in seconds. That scene led to one of the best sewer blastings EVER. That dude is dragging the one with the broken legs and gives him 2 guns to fend them off. God damn it was that awesome.

that whole archipelago is considered Wisconsin. I think the islands are a reasonable distance unless they are in southern Wisconsin, and it never specifies where they are.

I assumed that the dog was just too "stupid" for them to sense or something. Not a good meal or something? And the boat name might have been on the big ass yellow tag that was with the boat key (again, what I assume). Showing the gas is why I thought they were on that boat for awhile. You saw them happy, then a bunch of them pissed, then the gas gauge...

Actually, the part with the dog was explained a bit better in the original draft of the script. The idea here is that zombies are only interested in others of their own kind. So, human zombies only care about eating humans. Originally, from what I know, there were supposed to be zombie dogs that showed up to attack Chip, but it didn't make the finished version.

They showed the best part of the movie on USA last week. It was all downhill after that. I give it a meh/10.

Totally agree on the sewer escape sequence. I thought it was done well, and dual blasting on the back was cool. Sad too.

As for zombies waiting for the pray, they saw humans in clear sight fight in front of them, but where in all previous scenes they would rush at them in full force, here they were just waiting for goodbye to be said :p

I believe in original Dead trilogy, zombies were moving on istinct, main of which is hunger, and they would attack and try to consume anything living that they didnt sense as dead. Including animals. But I guess these are zombies of 21st centry and pet lovers :p

Thats why I see soo much negative impact of 28 days later on this. Originally zombies were all about consuming living flesh. They would gang up on the victims and literaly rip them apart to feed the hunger. By in the remake following 28 days convention, they were more interested in attacking, biting and going after new victims. They were BARELY ANY scenes of zombies actually EATING anyone. I recall only one in the janitorial closet when they got to the mall. Rest of the time zombies would attack and bite, and go for another attack. Its closer to the behaviour of Rage virus victims in 28 days later, and less of classic zombie rules :( And I hope that more films wont follow this.

I still enjoyed most of it (when carnage was on in full force) and will give it 6/10. Its a decent horror flick, and I just wish it wouldnt go repeat all too well known conventions of the genre. Like the scene in the beginning, where heroine goes to check the door instead of just making escape right away. But the wouldnt lead to the follow up Sudden Scare scene. And there were way too many of these.

Anyone else think that after the dive she took into the bathtub she wouldn't exactly be ready to stand back up? She took a fuck of a hit on the neck and back of her head.

Yeah no shit... a hit like that's enough to paralyze and possibly kill a person.

Zombie boyfriend "Here's Jonny!!!" moment was hillarious though. And he was smart enough to go around through front door, instead trying to follow her through the window.

On related news. Remake was heavily cut to bring down gore content from original NC17 to more studio friendly R. But there are talks about Unrated cut on the dvd release.

Was it really necessary to end it on such bleak note? It felt more of lets just make it grittier, darker just to break people expectations. It was emotionally empty, and I wish it was left on more hope giving note, just like original did. But I already talked about this.

Sail boats tend to be able to move without gas.

As for the more bleak ending, Night of the Living Dead had a bleak ending, the first Dawn was originally planned to have a bleak ending, hell it was filmed. I say let the bleak ending stay.

It seems that becomming a zombie turns you into an olympic-level athlete. Those fuckers were sprinting like Carl Lewis.

As for "fast" zombies, I don't mind them. Makes a nice change of pace. I mean, with slow zombies you can take your time and pick them off with headshots from a distance. But these things were RUNNING at them...the speed and eratic movement combined with the panic brought on by the fact that these things will be on top of you in seconds and all they have to do is bite you really made things intense.

I saw this in a theater with lots of black people. VOCAL black people. You know, the ones that yell out shit like, "Yo, a nigga woulda been OUTTA there!!" during the scene when the wife was hiding in the bathroom, waiting to see if her husband was going to come after her. :lol:

I understand where a lot of you are coming from.
But I just want to say that I used to be worried about the whole idea of fast moving zombies, but now I'm all for it. When the zombies are slow, the main theme and the way that the fear is handled is in how the characters manage themselves. Hell you could argue that in Romero's original movies, things would have been a-ok if someone in the group hadn't messed things up.
With that said I really like the sense of danger and chaos that this new fast zombie trend is bringing to the table. The first half of this remake is by far the best survival horror ever caught on film.
Why? Because it's the closest we've come to a realistc showing of what would actually happen if a situation like this occured,
It may be just me, but I don't see the problem with the character developement. Romer's theme was completely different, and yes HIS called for such things. But this new film's purpose is to showcase the theme of survival. In a situation like this close relationships would only happen if people had been relying on each other for a set amount of time, and would only need to contain honor, trust, and some sort of co-op survival mentaity.
If I put myself into a situation where I was running or trying to get into a secure building, let's say a mall, and as I was closing in on the doors another guy shot a zombie and saved my life, I'd imagine that him and I would stick together. We'd develope a sort of bond, but it would be for the sole purpose of staying alive. I might ask his name or something, but personal talk would only come when there was time. Maybe in a large group you would have that one person that you trust more than others, but the need for character developement in a film of this nature is null and void. To a degree it even takes away from the realism, and trys to put the focus on the characters and not the situation.
Which if it ever happened, I'm sure it would be chaotic and tense. Pure hell on earth. This movie came really close to showing that, in fact closer than any other flick in the genre, but alas not perfectly there yet.
I'd love to see a movie try to be as realistic as possible. I'd like to see the internet used as a means of communication, while it can be, and I'd like to see more emphasis on what's going on. I know that from a storyline standpoint it's part of the idea for there to be no explanation, but I think during the course of the film it would be cool to see characters at least make their own assumptions more so than they usually do.
I'd also like to see a zombie movie that takes place over a few months time. From the first few hours of the initial outbreak, to when the zombies are slowly decaying and everything returns back to normal.
Maybe have the story involve two groups of people, in the same state, that communicate to each other after somehow contacting each other over the net, and then halfway into the film the communication goes dead. So the question is: Do we stay here where we might die, or do we try to travel and meet the others who were in a better situation for survival, considering that we now have no true evidence that they are ok.
I just think in a situation like this we'd branch out and try more ways of communication than what we've seen in movies so far. After all, it would probably be the most important factor to what's going on.
Kudos to some of the interaction in the remake. Sometimes when words are not spoken, they carry more weight. I really loved some of the ways that the characters interacted with one-another.That's why I'd love to see this whole internet idea. In a world like this you really would care about people you don't even know. Deep inside you'd have this need to know that somewhere everything is ok, even if that wasn't the case.

I never seen original Romero's Night. I only read the book. The woman survived in it. In the Remake of NOTLD the woman also survived.

The Savini remake of Night is nowhere near as good as the original. You should check out the Romero Night in all of it's 1968 glory.

Exactly... it's an ok film in it's own right... but it doesn't hold a candle to Romero's original, which to this day still has one of the best ironic endings in the history of cinema.

:lol: Well, I have seen the parts of the original, and it just didnt work for me. I will try to give it another try though. I did loved the book, but hated the remake.

I was talking to a friend last night that doesn't like horror movies (after talking to him, I think he would have had nightmares for a week if he saw it) and he had a completly different idea of what the movie was like. He missed the preview on tv (he said they watched all of Final Destination, but they never showed it...which as we all know they did show it) and he was going to go see it based on the begining. Anyway, he thought that the "when hell is full the dead will walk on earth" line was really how the movie starts. He thought the movie would start in hell and you'd see that line play out with like the gates of hell opening on earth. I gave him the description of the intro and he was like "wow" and then wanted to know how it was going to end. I refused to tell him. I gave some parts out here and there, but I wanted to leave the ending unanswered so he might go see it during the week.

Saw this on Friday, loved it to death. Anyway...couple points you guys noted about the movie.

When they are on the docks, I dont think the zombies could get to them. However, they probably would have tried...

Secondly, a full propain tank would make an explosion if shot like that.

And thirdly...about Wisconsin. They are definetly in Southern Wisconsin. The radio broadcast at the beggining were awesome in that they did their homework and actually named off real places, like the river walk. So we can assume that they were in some Milwaukee suburb (plus, that is the only placei n WI with enough people for what was going on).

And are there islands off the coast here? Well, assuming the had a day to get there, and aimed up towards the north, there are enough islands that they could eventually find one. But really, I do not think that they are that far off the coast like in the movie.

A far better idea would have been to go to one of the inland lakes and and hang out on one of those islands. Even if they have zombies, they can only have so many of them on a tiny little island. Plus, you can get off if needed.

Oh, and Everett WI doesnt exist.

I just saw this last night and LOVED it! I say bring on the fast zombies! I don't know why it wouldn't make sense that they are fast, basically they are running on pure animal instinct and respond as such. They see food and then they go after the food. Simple as that. I think they would have been better off staying in the mall...I mean wouldn't the zombies eventually rot? It takes like 2 weeks for a body to rot away to the bone right? They just wait until there are just skeletons and go out with the trucks when there were less of them. I thought the gore was awesome, I haven't seen a movie this gory since the 80s. The one dude with the prego zombie wife, I can see him going insane because he was just chilling all that time with his wife in that dark-ass room all tied up. I think that would make anybody insane. I liked the bleak ending and the shot of the zombie head in the cooler was fucking gross! I really enjoyed this movie and can't wait for the uncut DVD. On a side note...has anybody read these books?

I have The Book of the Dead and I am trying to get Still Dead from eBay. The Book of the Dead was a pretty good selection of zombie stories and even had zombie sex in it! (ewwww) :xx:

A body won't be totally decomposed in 2 weeks. There wil definatly be some serious rot, but a lot is still left "on the bone" so to speak. And that's underground too, not sure how quick a zombie would rot out in the open...a think buried bodies (in the dirt, no coffin) go quicker because of insects and stuff.

And how the hell did that head get in the cooler? I forgot all about that.

I also wonder how all of this started. Since you can ONLY get infected when you get bitten, how the first zombie/infected person came to be that way? The "When the Hell is Full" convention doesnt apply to this anymore, since unlike old films, only infected become zombies, and people who die naturaly or from other types of violence stay dead.

I don't think I've seen a zombie movie where everyone who dies becomes a zombie. Except Thriller. But that's Michael Jackson.
