I know this has been done a bunch of times already, but I'm considering selling my AES and getting a double speed Neo CD. I could get the system a crapload of games for the money and I wouldn't be shelling out $50 for used MVS carts that are years old.
On the flip side, I've heard that the CD systems are fragile in nature and break easily. Is this true?
So, what should I do?

i don't have a neo, but from what i've read, stay away from the cd systems.
Why the double speed? Most places will tack on a $100 or more for that alone when there isn't much difference in loading times. I will tell you I had problems with my single speed a few months after I bought it when SNK was cleaning house. The music started skipping on a few games, so I cleaned the lens and discs and still no change. I tried the games on a friend's system and it wasn't the games causing the problem.
Then I send my single speed back to SNK to have it looked at. I wait a month or so and get impatient enough that I call them up and talked to their over enthusiastic techie only to find out all the home systems are being sent back. I found a KOF'96 save on there and got a slip of paper saying everything was tested and performed correctly. I load up the games that were skipping and I encounter the same problem. At this point, I sold the system and the lot of games and went AES.
The only good thing I can say for the system is that most of the early games load the entire game right at start up and of course the red book audio.

My impression of the Neo CD:
Benefits:
- Games are cheap
- Looks cool
- Comes with those neat pads instead of sticks
Costs:
- Many of the best games weren't released for it
- You can cook dinner during the load times
- Comes with pads instead of those neat sticks
- System isn't cheap
Personally, I own an MVS which I love to death, and I see no reason at all to buy any other type of system. My PCB can play everything, games are really cheap, and there are zero load times. I'm not the sort of person who cares much about packaging, cartridge condition, etc. so none of that bothers me. Also, I put more time into Blazing Star than any other game, and losing the ability to play it is out of the question.
I don't know about the fragile part. When I used to own mine (which I lent out and never got back :( ) I never had a problem with it. Seemed pretty sturdy to me. Also, I owned the single speed and yes, the load times were pretty bad, but I remember (If I'm not mistaken) the music in the KOF games were not those cheap midi sounding ones anymore. They were actually cd quality and it was a treat to listen to. Also, the controller was real nice... I'm a big fan of the pad and was happy to see the control stick on the NGPC was similar to the NGCD system's.
Oh and on some of the more simple games like puzzle bobble, it loaded once when you start up the game and never loaded again.
MVS is a hell of alot cheaper than AES once you get past the up-front setup cost.Quote:

NGCD itself is a cool novelty, the Redbook audio is a nice feature, and the controller is very cool, but MVS is the way to go to avoid annoying collectors and get the games, if that's what you really want.
Oh, and out of curiousity, am I the only one who prefers the NGCD pad to those "bean" style newer NG sticks? I love the old NG sticks but I hate the smaller, newer ones. I find them hard to use.
