Crash Bandicoot: Twinsanity

You know, I've never given a right damn about the Crash games. They raved about Crash on PSX, and I ignored it. They raved about Crash on PSX again, and I ignored it again. Three games later they raved about Crash on PS2 (though to a much lesser degree), and I ignored that too. I just didn't find anything about Crash appealing. He's ugly, doesn't speak, and ther's just something about him that makes me want to look the other way.

That isn't to say that I don't like anything about the games. Their use of bright colors is nice, and the island theme is a theme I've always loved. And I guess Crash's nemesis is OK, too. But all of this wasn't enough to get me to play the games.

Well, flipping through my new copy of Game Informer, there is quite a large spread on this new Crash game, titled "Crash Bandicoot: Twinsanity." Still horribly disinterested, but having already read the write-ups on Jak III and Up Your Arsenal, I figured I read it just to be entertained while I waited for my manager to close out the registers. What I read I actually found interesting.

The game focuses on bringing Cortex and Crash together as a team, as these evil space alien syblings known simply as "The Evil Twins," have forced them to work together, or the world will be destroyed.

The article focused primarily on one of two elements in the game: humor and gameplay, both of which I am a big fan, so long as they are done correctly.

The humor bit was standard. It sounds great in the description, but will only have some kind of impact if you're actually watching it. Which is fine. It's the gameplay bits that have me interested. The developers (Travelers Tales) have commented that they want to make Neo-Cortex a fully integrated part of the game, and they want the player to realize he's a full on playable character, and not just some sidekick gimmick like Jak or R&C. The situations described really did sound neat, and the screens make this extremely ugly series look a bit more pretty.

ANyone else interested?

And can anyone recomend a decent Crash game for me to play before this releases?

Crash Team Racing is pretty much the best Crash game. If you want a more traditional Crash game, the second one is probably the best of the bunch.

Yeah. I also peeped the details in GI. The game looks interesting, but I really don't care much for Crash. I'd rather play a new Sonic or Mario game.

I've given up on Crash, myself. The series peaked at 2, which was challenging and a hell of a lot of fun. Crash 3 is the Donkey Kong 64 of the series: Kinda well done, but the idea is way too played out. They tried filling it with mini-games to keep things fresh, but they're just frustrating wastes of time. Too much to do, too much random stuff thrown in one game.
...and I was never a fan of Crash Team Racing, myself.

Crash 2 is easily the best of the series, and a damn fun game in its own right. The rest of them are pretty blah, though.

Bleh. CTR is literally Mario Kart with Crash characters. There's no reason to play it as Mario Kart is of course far better.

Crash 2 is a great game IMO. I got hooked on it and completed it 100% (a rarity for me). Definitely recommended.

CTR has a feel all its' own, and is different enough to warrant a purchase now that it's down to about $10.
