Havn't cracked my box yet, but that's exactly how it was with my beta hdd, and I'm sure it is no different now. :(Quote:

I shall end this discussion.
If you don't have a PC that can handle it, don't even bother.

PvP is suppost to be in the next xpac, bumped back from the Jan patch. Nice thing about square is they almost never release/patch anything until its working. Square wins lots of brownie points with me for a fucking stable mmo (nigh impossible to find) and acually testing stuff before it hits the servers.
Also they left out alot of mmo staples like item loss on death and corpse retrieval which is just nice.
 Square did an absolute shit job on bug removal. You are just playing it well over a year after release. The Japanese launch was a disaster.Quote:

FFXI is the good BEGINNING of an MMORPG, but until they add some sort of PvP to make it worthwhile there's no fucking point. It's like eating a steak... it tastes good, but it's not the best steak you've ever had, and you can't pinpoint exactly what that lost flavor is, but you know it needs SOMETHING.
Wow, you have a level 75 character, he sure can kill those monsters pretty fast and spend hours looking for TEH UBER RARE ITEM!!!
I played it for a very long time since the NA release, and I eventually realized all this work level building and getting rare items was really for nothing. In the linkshell (clan) I was in, I went out of town for two days, and everyone was 5-7 levels ahead of me, so there goes playing with the friends I made.
It requires an ungodly amount of time and patience, and when you do get into a good linkshell with people your level, the party requirements to get decent exp are so harsh you'll need to play for hours everyday just to keep up with them.
To spend 100 plus 13 bucks a month for ANY mmorpg is highway robbery, though, imo.
I agree but that is the problem with every MMORPG I've seen, the biggest problem with MMORPGs is that there are too many restrictions and they focus too much on levels and leveling up... if they allowed you more freedom in what you wanted to do like character development and PVP it would be better IMO. The battle system should also be reworked, what level a person is shouldn't be as dominated and player skill should play more of a role instead.
Also MMORPGs try to force you to group for quests, I like grouping up but it should be because I want to not because so and so says I need to or I can't continue on.
If you could do whatever you wanted and develop you're character the way you want and not how they give you that would be a much better MMORPG IMO :)
I was really thinking about picking the game up until I realized it'd cost me $165 just to play for 2 months.
The more I thought about it, I'm not a big fan of the leveling up either and am instead going to wait for True Fantasy Live Online with its emphasis on individual jobs.
