Recently I've been buying some saturn games (Metal slug, Cotton2, Astal, Prikura Daisakusen ). I'm looking for some nice shooters and platform games. Any suggestions?
A great domestic shooter called Galactic Attack is one of my personnal favorites. 2-d scaling and mad techno style music. A precursor to Raystorm ( bad game).
A great platform style shooter called Burning Rangers. It's in the 3rd person veiw, and the import isn't that expensive.
Princess Crown
Super Tempo (platformer)
Sengoku Blade (shooter)
Prikura Daisakusen is the best! But since you already have that, get these:
DoDonPachi (if you don't already have it for PSX)
Batsugun
Parodius Deluxe Pack
Soukyugurentai
Collage Basketball '98
and
No Shiro Kama-san Basketball '98

Heh, I just posted a topic like this at the shmups.com forums (except I was asking for some reccomends for non-shmup games). I'll be sure to keep an eye on this topic, as well.
Anyway, if you can spare the cash, I highly reccomend Radiant Silvergun. I've played a lot of shmups over the years, but this one has to be one of the most unique, technologically impressive, engaging shooters I've ever seen. It's mostly shooter, but with a pinch of puzzle and a dash of RPG thrown in.
Of course, I'm sure there are some here who piss on drooling RSG fangeeks, so I won't say "IT'S THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME" or anything pretentious like that, but I will say that it's one of the best shooters you can get for Saturn. It costs a lot of money, but I personally think it's worth it.
Galactic Attack is great. I got this game four years ago when I bought my saturn with ten games for $100. 8 of the 10 games were crap but Galactic Attack was awesome :) and Darkstalkers revenge was alright.Quote:

To OmegaFlareX:
I really want Radiant Silvergun but right now it seems that I'll have to pay more than $120 for it. I'm not gonna get it now but sometime before the year ends. :(
Bokan To Ippatsu! Doronboo Kanpekiban - 2D Vert Shooter
Also known as Time Bokan. Best shooter on Saturn that I've played, and yes I've played Radiant. Has a 70's style anime theme. I've got like 30 low quality screenshots at my site.
Detana Twinbee Yahho-! Deluxe Pack - Collection of two 2D Vert Shooters
Humorous shooters in the vein of Parodius, only verticle.
Elevator Action Returns - 2D Action Platformer
Violent sequel to the arcade classic. Also includes the arcade classic when you beat part 2. I've got a review posted at my site I believe.
Guardian Force - 2D Vert Shooter
Highly underatted shooter that has you taking control of a tank. You can full rotate the tank's turret 360 degrees. Quite fun, and quite cheap.
Image Fight/XMultiply - Collection of one vert and one horizontal shooter
Image Fight is an average vert shooter with a nice difficulty. XMultiply is the star of this pack.
Keio Yuugekitai: Katsugekihen - 2D Platformer
Quite good, but not the best on saturn
Kingdom Grandprix - 2D Vert Shooter/Racer hybrid
Awesome game with an awesome soundtrack. Features your standard shooter game play except you are racing to the finish along with 7 others.
Konami Antiques MSX Collection - Various
Not a recommendation, a warning. Sure this disc contains classics such as Gradius, Salamander and Parodius, but the games contained on this disc are MSX ports. They are close to unplayable. For more info, check the review on my site.
Magical Hoppers - 2.5D platformer
Japanese version of Pandemonium with anime characters. Give it a shot if you never played Pandemonium.
Ninja JaJamaru Kun Gold - 3D Action platformer
My avatar. This game is not for everyone, but if you like wacky Japanese games, you may enjoy it.
Ninpen Manmaru - 3D Action platformer
Like the above, get only at your own risk. I can't quite recommend these two, but I enjoyed them. I've got screens of this at my site.
Parodius Deluxe Pack - Collection of two 2D shooters.
Two humorous shooters. Parody of Gradius, hence the name.
Planet Joker - 3D Vert Shooter
*Puke* Horrible. Just a warning to stay away
Princess Crown - 2D Action/RPG
Japanese not needed, but would help.
Sega Ages: Mickey & Donald - 2D platformers
Collection of Castle of Illusion and QuackShot. Two solid platformers from the genesis day. Worth a look if you didn't already get your fill.
Silhouette Mirage - 2D Action
Fun.
Soukyugurentai - 3D Vert Shoooter
Fun Shooter....
Super Tempo - 2D platformmer
Best platformer on Saturn, IMO. Sequel to the best 32X game made. Beautiful graphics, nice sense of humor and great gameplay.
Tryrush Deppy - 2D Platformer
You are a Cartoon style Taxi. Average game, can be fun at times.
Whizz - 2D isometric platformer
Fun, but very easy and very short. Port of the SNES game. See review at my site for more details.
Willy Wombat - 3D platformer
Lots of fun. Worth a look
Sorry for the increasingly vague descriptions and any typos, I am half sleep. If you need any more info on a particular game(including any of those listed at my site) let me know. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to rest. My site
Astal is a fun little platformer that you can probably find fairly cheap.
This should help you out:http://millartime.com/videogames/segasaturn.htm
holieeeee shit. i stopped by your site the other day and wondered where the hell you've been....
No, just one. And you saved me the trouble so thanks...Quote:

BH Zero : RS is NOT worth $120 or the trouble finding it. Just keep your head up and around, let people know you want it, and sooner or later, someone that owns RS will come to the realization (BIG SHOCK that it is) that other shooters than RS exist, and that someone will want to take advantage of the hype that RS has to try to pawn it off for a good price. Pull some strings and keep the RS owner from using eBay.
It's happened before :) It will again...
?.. is the voice navigation in English? Seems it be pretty crappy to own the import if you didn't know Japanese.Quote:
A great platform style shooter called Burning Rangers. It's in the 3rd person veiw, and the import isn't that expensive.
The games that have been seeing the most action on my Saturn lately are:
(somethin'somethin') Fantastic Pinball by TechnoSoft -not to be confused with the other FantasticPinball games (I can't remember the translation of the title) a great and very colorful video Pinball game -not one of those pinball simulation deals. Soemwhat difficult, but filled with quirky and hillarious characters and bonus rooms. -great fun that you can play anytime, in quick spurts or extended sessions.
ThunderForceV -side scrolling shooter, can be found relatively inexpensive for Saturn import. Start on level three, get the FreeRange weapon and kick ass to the end.
Really, the FreeRange weapon makes this game worth owning by itself.
Scorcher an F-Zero like racing game. Very well crafted, imo. Really f**kin' good agreesive play required. This game is fast and frenetic. Steer clear if you can't handle short draw-in distance.
Vatlva R.C. vehicle battle game. Up to six players. Very different vehicles, all with unique weapons and attack characteristics. Inexpensive and hella fun.
Sega Ages Fantasy Zone if you haven't played Fantasy Zone, make this the copy to get. Your thumb will curse you for it:evil:
i just have to wonder....if the game didnt command such a high price on ebay and have this air of mysticism....would we have as many drooling rabid peeps on this board? guess well never know.
Nope. Burning Rangers = baaad import. Especially since the domestic rev isn't that expensive either.Quote:

I don't know if NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon Zwei counts, but no one mentioned it, so...
Speaking for myself, I'd say no. Even if the game can be had for $10, I'd say it would have just as big a fanbase. Some people appreciate the quality of the game while others don't. Simple as that.Quote:

To each their own.
VIRTUAL ON!!!
Most will probably scoff, saying VOOT is a much better game...
While it is better, VOOM is very close behind, and is different enough to purchase.
Get these:
*Hyper Duel- Technosoft arcade shmup. Your ship can transform between fighter and mecha types.
*Batsugun
*Darius Gaiden
*Darius II
*Soukyugurentai
*Battle Garegga
*Elevator Action II
*Bubble Symphony
*Metal Black
*Pulirula - A Taito arcade game with weird "Mike Judge on LSD" style graphics. Possibly the most crackheaded game of all time.
*Gun Frontier
*DoDonPachi- Get this one if you want 2 players with the ability to choose different ships and are willing to put up with a few graphic faults.
*Strikers 1945- Perfect arcade conversion (I've got one at a Putt-Putt near me, and it looks exact to the pixel.)
*Strikers 1945 II- If you can not find a PS1 version.
*Metal Slug- If you cannot get a Neo-Geo CD or MVS cart version.
*KOF'95/'96/'97- Developed by Rutubo Games for SNK, KOF'95 is arcade perfect. The only thing missing is the Engrish mode (but I miss that a lot! ). '96 and '97 are not, but still quite decent.
*Guardian Force
*Blast Wind- Not the king of the Technosoft hill, but still decent.
*Sega Ages vol. 1- If you can't get Yu Suzuki GameWorks for Dreamcast.
*Power Drift- Ditto.
*Samurai Shodown 3- Good Neo-Geo port.
*Capcom Generations 1,2,4,5 -#3 isn't quite as good as the others.
*Layer Section II- If you can't get RayStorm on PS.
Avoid:
*Sky Target - A gross insult to the After Burner series.
*All Star Pro Wrestling Featuring Virtua - Sure, it's got Jeffry & Wolf... but it's sluggish.
*Super Street Fighter Collection- Lousy ports of SSFII and SSFIIT featuring lame CPU AI. The CapGen5 versions of WW/CE/HF are far better. Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold is the only reason to get this one.
*Samurai Shodown 4- More like Samurai Slodown 4. What happened? The Neo-Geo one is good.
Are you joking?! Time Bokan?! The best shooter you've played on the Saturn? Jesus.Quote:

You need Battle Garegga. Say it with me.
Battle.
Garegga.
Battlegaregga.
Battle Garegga.
Battle Garegga
Platformers you won't have much luck with. Everyone will tell you that Keio Yugekitai is cool, and it is, but it's also much too easy to be that interesting.
On this board? I'd say yes. Overall? No. I'm willing to bet that a large part of its popularity spread because of the price, but prices haven't seemed to stop or encourage titles around here.Quote:

The graphics are really, really good - I think that makes a big difference.
Stone,
I don't see anything topping Time Bokan. I'm not saying that everyone will like it best, it's just that I do. I plan to get Battle Garrega, but I don't see myself liking it better than Time Bokan. I have a feeling it'll turn out like all the other supposed great shooters on Saturn. No doubt it'll be fun, just not better. This is all in my opinion of course. It's just after all of the "Radiant Silvergun/Soukyugurentai/insert various shooter here is the best shooter on Saturn" I've grown weary about what people consider best.
Why? Just because a lot of people say [insert Saturn shooter here] is the best more frequently than others doesn't make [insert Saturn shooter here] worse than any other.Quote:

I would add Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus to the list, but only if you can find it for less than $75.
What I mean is, it is pretty apparent that I have diferent tastes than most gamers. As such, what is usually best to some people, is not best to me. I'm not saying hype=bad game, I am just saying that more often than not, the games do not deserve said hype, IMO, and as such I pay no mind to hype. I am not saying it'll be worse just because it gets hype, I am merely saying that it'll have a hard time topping my current favorite. What should I say? Battle Garegga will kick Time Bokan's ass simply because that is the general opinion? Many people enjoyed Battle Garegga, but that will not mean I will, it also doesn't mean I won't. I am just treating it as I would any game. I am not going to go into it thinking it is the best shooter on Saturn, nor am I going to think it isn't. Hopefully this makes more sense.Quote:

WORD. I love Galactic attack. If in fact he want the import though, its called Layer Section in Japan... (The sequal is called Layer Section 2)Quote:

We would have a replay of the Smashing Drive scenario... :)Quote:

I don't really agree with these statements because...Quote:

Nope. Burning Rangers = baaad import. Especially since the domestic rev isn't that expensive either.
1) Japanese import version of BR has famous VA's such as:
Midorikawa Hikaru
Miyamura Yuuko
Kasahara Hiroko
Hisakawa Aya
and
2) The voice navigator may help you get to your destination the first time you play through the 4? 5? (i forget) stages. But when you start to replay the game, it's utterly useless. Sure the navigator will still point you to the exit, which you'll already know having played them... but the focus of replay shifts from just trying to beat the game to rescuing 100% of the hostages, which is randomized.
So having Kris telling you in Japanese, or English, the direction of the exit does you no good anyway. Just my 2 yen.

If you enjoy a great game of pinball, I would highly suggest Last Gladiators. Developed by Kaze, this is the closest thing, to the real game of pinball. There is also a sequel on Japanese Import. Greatest pinball series ever, IMO.
wow, funny you would suggest that.
(and thanks for the suggestion)
but I had LastGladiators (and NeoGoldenLogress).
Sold it!
('n quick)
I can't stand real-to-life video-pinbal.
I want my video pinball to pull-out all the stops; with secret boards, bonus boards, impossible ramps or combos, creatures that roam around the playfield, and generally everything else that can't be done on a set table.
Pinball of the Dead is where it's at
and will as well be the reason and first game for my GBA.
...and I don't think I'll ever give Necromancer a try either, 'cause I've heard it too strives to recreate the pinball experience at home with a real table.
Video Pinball shouldn't try to even touch arcade pinball. Without being able to shake the playfield in your hands, nor the ability to look around a target, nor actually feel the physics at work, the concept of pinball just loses too much.
btw, none of my answers in the original post even fit the thread.
he was asking for shooters and platformers. Doh!
