Where have all the He-Men gone?

So, all throughout my travels I frequent many toy stores (and stores that sell toys, which are not the same thing), and I've been noticing a developing trend that I must say I don't like. All of the new Masters of the Universe toys are disappearing.

I'm not talking "people are buying them in droves" disappearing, I'm talking "Gee, it really looks like TRU/Kay-Bee/Target/etc. are cutting the Masters of the Universe line from their inventories" disappearing.

Everywhere I've been, MotU toys have either been on clearance, or just simply haven't been available. My local TRU had three figures for sale, THREE, and lucky for me, one of them was Buzz-Off (which you can take a look at in the official haul thread). I've been to Kay-Bee stores with buy-one-get-one sales on MotU, and I've been to Wal*Marts that have totally removed the line from their store, even when they had the largest stock and selection of MotU in the area. What the Hell is going on?!

I realize that the show (which I haven't been watching, saddly, due to its scheduling) is gearing up for the Snake Men run, and to coincide there will be a new toy series (including a revision of one of my all-time favorites, Cobra-Khan w/ water spitting action), so I guess this is just the preperations for the new stock of MotU toys, but it doesn't really feel like that. Usually, present toy lines in the same series don't go on clearance until the new line has released, not before. It all just feels so weird.

In the meantime, Toy Fair continues to preview the new batch of figures, and they seem to comunicate that everything is peachy in Eternia. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but it really feels like something is up.

Hopefully they changed into something useful, like DMC figures.

I have a intersting He-Man story, back in the 80s they ran a contest where you could draw a made up character you would want to be made into a figure. I entered numerous times, and one of them was one that excreted slime, this was before they had that slime playset. I wonder if my figure idea gave them the inspirtaion? Anyways I was runner up, and won some cool playsets. I don't believe they actually created the winner figure, or mass produced it.

I remember that contest, the one I made looked like some giant insect-type figure that was supposed to be an alien of some sort. I didn't win anything, but the insect toy made for Hordak had some striking simularities. I just don't remember it being anything like a praying mantis.

The He-Man revival is done IIRC. Mattel(I think) fucked up the case distrubition, leaving shelves full of He-Man and Skeletor, and the stores couldn't sell them. The stores responded by not ordering new product, and Mattel was forced to shelve the line.

All the TRU and Kay-Bee stores in my area, as well as Wal-Mart, are chock full of EVERYTHING He-Man. Vehicles, playsets, mini figures, regular figures; you name it. They have a crapload of Star Wars stuff too.

I just like to look at the Transformers and G.I. Joes. Ah, the memories. :)

Melf, if you can find an Evil Lynn figure, I'll pay you for it plus shipping. Please look. Please.

Tigana, that sucks. I just heard something similar from a Kay-Bee employee. He said that the line was discontinued, but he didn't know exactly why. Maybe in the future Mattel will redistribute the product more evenly throughout the packaging system and the stores will pick it back up?

This really sucks.

On a lighter note, I was able to purchase a Trap-Jaw and a Mega-Punch He-Man today.

The revival sucks, but if it's already over that is kind of sad somehow.
