That was disturbingly awesome! I've seen a lot of crazy shit, but that is unexplainable. His hand/eye coordination is just sick. Thanks for the link FX-ism.
I think i'm going to go shoot myself in the face now...
I had only heard about such videos before, very nice find.
However, the chapter 3 video is almost hard to believe, especially at the boss battle. But regardless, wow.
It just had to be a .wmv
I only get sound, dammit.
I....just.....umm..... wow. That's....
right.
How are you guys watching it? I can't see sh*t!!
Just *slightly* insane...
...trying to figure out if this is more impressive than the Ikaruga Appreciate DVD or not...
That was some scary shit.
if you're on a mac, you will only get sound on a .wmv file.
Nomi, I can convert it to an .MPG.
I swear, I've gotten some to play video. Maybe I'm insane, but I was pretty sure... No, I'm crazy. Sorry.Quote:

Wow. o_O
It's not a hassle, just gotta wait for these things to download, they're taking an ungodly amount of time given my connection. Converting them only takes about a minute or two per vid. When I'm done, which will hopefully be within the next hour or so, I'll shoot you an IM.
This was posted a while ago--though I'm not sure if it was posted here or at CAG. Suffice to say--I think it's a girl playing, no self respecting male has hands like that. Look at the nails..
Uuuuh..Whoopie. Another person who memorized Ikaruga.
VTF-INO's videos are always fun to watch, he is also the player of the Radiant Silvergun Swordplay movies.
It sucks he loses his chain the Ch3 Normal video.

This impresses me.
Someone memorizing every single pixel of an over rated shooter, then displaying his lack of life on the internet does not impress me. So like I said, whoopie, another person memorized Ikaruga.
Considering I came within one life of one crediting it when the game was new and I had no idea what Mars Matrix was, I could give a shit less what you think I can and can not do.Quote:

One-crediting this game is MUCH easier than actually getting POINTS.
First, one-credit this thing. Then, get a perfect chaining of level 1. Then play it one-player using one hand. Then use one hand for each player.
You could try your whole life at doing something this cool and still fail.
Welcome to the club. I get to drive the float.Quote:

Oh sorry. I forgot I have to max chain the entire game with 2 players by myself, blindfolded, looking at the game through a mirror all while solving the ECCp-109 Challenge by hand.Quote:

And thats just to get a hand job from TNL. God only knows what you need for blow.

2. That wasn't bragging. If you consider "coming within a life of one-crediting" a game bragging then you must have low standards for the world and now I understand why you're so IMABOUTTOBREAK over my posts in this thread.

I forgot. This is TNL, where nobody plays games for fun but instead play them for "I am the supreme uberdork" rights.Quote:

Which still says nothing about the difficulty of what was accomplished in the video.

Right, because we programmed all the arcade games out there. God we're cool.Quote:

Well, according to you TNL is only where the score-based nature of the arcade comes in, thus all of the design features were surely made by us. You know in ESP.Ra.De how the secondary weapon does almost no damage and is there solely to create a score multiplyer? That was Mode 7's idea. The way Cosmic Smash uses power strikes to create a bonus solely for a higher score? Burgundy. Metal Slug and the small score to identify continuing for the sole purpose of comparing scores? That was actually an undercover Melf from back in 'Nam.Quote:

"Uuuuh..Whoopie. Another person who memorized Ikaruga"
Sounds exactly like you were talking the accomplishment to me. Unless, of course, you know of several other people that can do this.
Oh, I thought we were talking about my Mars Matrix to Ikaruga comparison. The accomplishment is lame as fuck and I stand by this.Quote:

I think Pop'n Music is junk. That said, it's very possible for someone to do something with it that amazes me.

The B-shot does a fair bit of damage in ESPRa.de, by the way. And I should know, it being my idea and all.
P.S. You could never in a million years do what's accomplished in those videos.

Yeah, I've ignored the rest of this thead, and that said, I didn't really think Mars Matrix was that terribly hard, maybe on par with Ikaruga, but then again, I played the shit out of Mars Matrix when I bought it, and I haven't logged near that amount of time on Ikaruga... that could explain things.
 Oh my, I get owned on Chapter 3.

I've seen this being done in person, it blew me away. Then a week later I saw someone doing exactly the same thing. It's impressive but I agree with Sl1p to an extent; don't these people have anything better to do with their lives? Fair enough if you can 1 credit Ketsui or whatever but Ikaruga is purely a memory test with the best players doing exactly the same stick manoeuvres. I dunno, it's kinda robotic and sad.
almost every expert footage i see of ikaruga has the player approaching each wave of enemies in unique ways..Quote:

of course you're gonna know how the enemy attacks after you play the game a few times.. the fun part is thinking or planning out how you're going to approach it.
theoretically, there should be only one way in ikaruga to approach a wave of enemies and leech the absolute maximum number of points out of them - but if you're an expert player, how are you going to find that method without approaching the wave from different angles and experimenting?

I posted this not a few days ago, of course, no one gave a shit.
Since we seem to have lost whatshisface, I guess this little Slip guy is the new king crybaby of TNL. By an apparent landslide. Congrats. It just goes to show that you can sponge off your parents at age 20 and still make something of yourself. I may shed a tear.
As far as VTF-Ino spending his time memorizing Ikaruga goes, what have any of the people who wonder why he would spend so much time doing such a thing done with themselves lately? Got the US out of Iraq? Stopped the wanton slaughter of the Sudanese people? Stopped female circumcision in Ethiopia and other African countries? Fed the homeless? Opened a shelter for battered women? Lectured at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting? Freed Tibet? Saved the rainforests? What? Oh yeah, played some other games and posted at TNL. That's quite special and I applaud such selfless magnanimity.
And for those that are comfortable with themselves enough to just go ahead and be impressed by what someone else did with their time, I'd suggest the shmups forum: http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/%7Eshmup...orum/index.php Because these videos are painfully old news.

Not getting into your fight, and not being sure if you were talking seriously or being sarcastic, but I'll say this: perfecting Pop'n at its most challenging setting would be a billion times harder than perfecting Ikaruga at it's most challenging.Quote:

Sl1p wins the thread.
Mech: You completely owned yourself in this thread, and it's clear that you were crying as you typed some of these posts (some of which didn't even begin to make sense - that shit about TNL posters making arcade games? WHAT. THE. FUCK.). I've never seen you whine so much. You're a decent guy, but you're not nearly as smart as you think you are. You're the guy who didn't manage to graduate from high school, right?
PaCrappa: You're surprisingly uptight, snobby and pretentious for such a worthless pothead. You shmup fans are so easy to piss off. Almost as easy as otakus.
The video was decent, but I couldn't help but wonder what this guy could have accomplished if he had decided to spend the hundreds of hours he wasted on Ikaruga practicing a sport or something. He might even be fucking a hot girl right now, instead of recieving pats on the back by a bunch of lonely message board nerds.
Good first and last post from returning.
But this isn't a social commentary. It's not our place to delve into his personal life, but rather observe and comment on one of his gaming accomplishments. Which, if I'm not mistaken, is the general theme of this message board.Quote:

Because you've done both. I think Shidoshi wins the thread.
Tyler, I'm sorry if that little "sponging off your parents" remark hit a little too close to home for you. At least I'm just pretentious enough to pretend like it's okay. Write if you get work.
Pa
That comment didn't piss me off at all, actually. I sponge off my parents but since I'm a senior in high school, I really don't have a problem with it.
This little rant was what pissed me off.Quote:

Does anybody know or have any idea whatsoever how many hours or minutes it took the maker of the Ikaruga video to perfect his skills like that? No. He could be Japanese national Judo champion and banging a stable of hot bitches. He could easily have started a shelter for battered wiseass high school weenies too. Maybe instead of running around willy nilly and buying every game in sight only to whine about it in the "Pile of Shame" thread at japan's equivalent of TNL, he has chosen to play one game at a time and explore the possibilities. Dyler_Turden sure wouldn't know one way or the other, but he'll happily comment because he does such earth shatteringly important things with is time that he is now in a position to judge.
Pa
Whatever happened to just simply watching the video?
People are worried about the videomaker's personal life?
Let's turn the tables: "When I see a heavyweight fighter that boxes that well, I can only wonder what he would have been able to achieve if instead of spending those hundreds of hours sparring in the gym, he'd have been playing Ikaruga. He might actually be getting laid now."
LOL!
Yes FX-ism, it's ridiculous. I think analyzing someone else's life like that sort of indicates where the analysts's life might lack. But hey, I just watch the videos ;)
Pa
It's all a matter of degree.
A pastime like shmupping takes relatively little time to master. Spend 50-60 hours playing your average vert scroller, and you can 1-up it. Ikaruga takes a little longer to master utterly, maybe 80-120 hours.
Other pastimes such as playing the piano, studying martial arts, and painting take lifetimes to master.
So one could easily become a master shooting-game player while still having plenty of time for other life pursuits, such as ikebana or banging hot chicks.
I just don't think Ikaruga mastery is a zero-sum game in terms of lifestyle.

Why, why, why does everyone take this so seriously, its just a great movie. Its unusual, and interesting to see a replay done with 2 hangs, using both players. It could have been anything, why not Bubble Bobble, or Metal Slug, or Tony Hawkes? The point is, whens the last time you saw someone play a gamein this fasion so well?
Who gives a shit about how much time it took, if the guy gets layed, if he has no life? Attacking someone for what they do in their spare time? Why, does it make you feel better about yourself? Maybe he has a nice paying job so has a lot of free time, maybe after hes done pwning Ikaruga he goes off and smokes da weed, and banga da ho's. WTF does Pop'in'Music have to do with mastering Ikaruga?! Yeah, they are different genres completely, and popin might be harder but they are both just memorization, and partial quick of eye.
I really enjoyed reading this thread, it shows the posters who do nothing but criticize others that they need to take a damn good look in the mirror.
Anyway, getting back to actually talking aboutthe video, I like the idea, apart from the games I suggested before, what other games to people think it would be fun to do this on?Quote:
