Yes, it's actually necessary to use the warps to get the highest score possible in any of the three modes. So go for it!

Just did an experiment, went through all 10 beginner levels plus all 3 EX stages as fast as humanly possible, just to see what kind of score that'd give. Got 110,218. Not very impressive, I'm afraid. :)

So far my Beginner high score is 144,668. I think I can improve that just a bit...

Things to remember:

Time bonuses are more important than bananas.

Always find and use the warps. These will get you the majority of your points.

Question: I see most of you guys use Baby - does he/she/it have an advantage? In fact, are there any differences between the monkeys? If there are, I can't notice them...although I've only had the game five days.

I like Baby the best because he has a bit more acceleration and seems to control a bit looser than AiAi and Mee Mee. As far as I can tell those two are virtually the same. Gon Gon is heavy and feels kinda clumsy. He accelerates the slowest, but can haul ass like the rest when he gets up to speed.

Updated. I use the baby as well because he's lighter and has more maneuverability. Kind of how I usually prefer the faster ships in shooters.

Baby's definitely easier - first time I used...um, IT, I cleared Beginner without losing a single life. Baby's definitely not as slippery as the others.

Oh, and here's a puny score:

Advanced - 170,652 Floor 13 Baby

Just started working on Advanced - I intend to improve dramatically and quickly. You guys are awesome!

As for Expert - er, I'm not quite there yet - I can't pass the FOURTH floor! :(

Biomechanic, there's 3 levels with warps in Advanced mode, and they give you a ton of points. First is Level 6, you might know this one, it's the same warp as floor 2 in Beginner, underneath the platform you start on.
On floor 18, you start off with three goals in front of you, two of which are warps.
My favorite warp is floor 25, It's the goal that you can see across from you at the start of the level. Now, you got to figure out how to get to it, heh-heh. *hint, hint* Your monkey's got to catch some air.

Duh! Thanks deathwish - I had found the Level 6 one right away, in fact. It never occurred to me that the Level 18 and 25 warps were warps at all...I thought they were merely alternate "normal" exits. Don't ask me why. :sweat:

Hmmm..wonder if the two Level 18 warps are different from each other...NO, WAIT! Don't answer!!!

Thanks for not spelling out the Level 25 one! Trial & error is my friend.

I should post a much better score in a day or so, then. I HATE Advanced Level 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness for practice mode...

Oh - is it just me, or does Monkey Golf kinda suck....?

16 was holding me back for a while, but after playing it in Practice mode I got my technique down. 21,on the other hand, is kicking my ass. I can pass it on practice mode, just not consistantly.

I don't know why I haven't bothered to post my scores in this thread until now because I've owned Super Monkey Ball for over a year. I lifted all these straight from my high score rankings so these are pretty old scores. I know that I can improve a little on Beginner and Advanced, and I need to get to Master playing for score instead of playing for extra lives because none of my Master Mode scores rank in my top 5 scores for Expert mode. This is mostly due to the fact that I usually try to get every bannana possible when going for Master mode rather than playing for score. Anyways, here you go

I would post some scores, but Master mode doesn't work in SMB1 like it does in SMB2. In SMB1 the only way to play Master mode is by going through all the Expert and Expert Extra levels without using a continue. So, all of my high scores for Expert/Master mode are recorded on the same chart. And since none of my Master mode scores are as good as my level 50 score, it would be pointless to post it.

Just a few minor updates. I finally made a perfect run through Beginner, and I inched closer towards perfection in advanced mode. Once I become consistent at hitting the warp in level 11 I'll have that mode in the back of my pocket.

Expert mode continues to give me trouble when playing for score, and I haven't been able to make it to Master mode without the 1-2 extra lives received by going for bananas and not for score.

Yes, I know, those scores probably look impossible, but they are not. There are special strategies used to obtain such high scores. In Beginner, you need to get every banana possible up to B8, then on that floor get every banana and fall out. Repeat that until you can't repeat it anymore, then do the rest of the levels fast, and you'll have about 2000 more points than normal. In Advanced, on A11, you can go down the left .1, turn around at the end and go down the .2, hit off the second white thing and bounce back to the start of the level, then get the three bunches at the right .1 slot, then fall out. This gets you 105 bananas, therefore you get an extra life every time you complete it, so you can repeat as many times as you want. For Expert, on E9, I did the .2 then hopped over to the .1 and did it backwards then fell out. That will get you 190 bananas so you get an extra life every time. On my Expert score, I had to do that for about 20 hours. It wasn't a fun experience, but I was determined to break 10 million.

That's an awful long way to go for that Expert score. Couple of questions:

What are B/AX levels? Are these new ones that come after the EX levels, or does it loop?

I assume M10 stands for Master 10- can you only access the Master levels after completing Expert each time, or are they displayed in the menu after you open them up? Amazing scores, btw.

B stands for Beginner, AX stands for Advance Extra. You can only play the Master levels if you go through Expert without continuing, they aren't displayed on the menu after you open them up. You can play them in practice mode and challenge mode, just not normal mode.
