I agree with the whole 'age isn't a rule' thing. I mean, hell, I don't act like most 15 year old girls. I act a lot more mature than a fine share of 18-20 year olds do. So I'll base it on someone who acts the my level of mentality, and not judge by age. It seems more fair that way.

Most guys don't complain, and when a woman is caught having sex with an underaged guy you don't hear everyone going "Perv!" Combine that with genetics dealing with men being naturally attracted to younger women (even though there tends to be a lot of extremes) and women being naturally attracted to older men (or those percieved as such by either party) and there's a lower number of older women with younger guys in the first place.

It has little to do with the system - it's less likely that a complaint would be brought against an older woman than an older male. It's also a fact that females are much more vulnerable in sexual situations.

It all deals with the subconcious ideas of rearing children. Take any caucasian baby and look at its hair, every single one of them starts off with blond hair no matter what it changes to over the next few years. Implanted in the male mind is that blond hair = young which in turn = fertile. Older women are less attractive to us because they would not be as good a recepticle for producing offspring. This works both ways as evidenced by females, as therefore dark hair = older which in turn = better caretaker for the children.

My father's girlfriend had her first child a few days after her seventeenth birthday, if I recall (from her previous marriage; my father is not a sicko). She had two more children in a few years. She's barely thirty now, a good fourteen years younger than my father.

She go involved with her ex- when she was fifteen, and it ended up destroying her life for the most part. A decade and a half later she's just getting away from the control-freak and rebuilding things (going to college and such).

Any girl/young woman should know better than to let this happen. It wasn't an accident, and was a very, very poor decision largely on her part. She regrets being involved with that guy more than anything, and she stresses it to me very often. We hardly talk, but she's very adamant about me understanding that serious sex at fifteen is a terrible idea, especially with an older guy.

Responsiblity for some people is a lifetime away at that age. Honestly though, a serious relationship at that age is a scary prospect.

My ex, I was 15 she was 14 when we started dating, turned into an emotional mess, when sex became all that relationship was built on, and the slow realization that I simply was not ready for it, and she was only using it as a control mechanism. How screwed up was it?

To this day I don't know if she was ever pregnant with my child.

No, the point is that nobody in their right mind would consider an 18 year old having sex with a 17 year old "banging a minor." The question of the thread was one where the act of having sex with a minor would be something looked down upon by society, and if you're only a few years different in age, society doesn't give a crap.

Actually, even though marrying extremely young has been practiced in many cultures, they usually kept the kids separate until they were old enough to have kids without medical complications. Generally 17 or 18. So yeah, morals haven't changed all that much.

Yes. And what I'm saying is most youngsters have no idea what they want, especially on something like sex. Do you really think most people view things the same way at the ages of 15 and 25? So why would anyone with a conscious take advantage of that?

Maybe. But I can think of one thing that has changed the way people date. The car.

Back before most families had a car, the closest thing you had to a date was your family and the young ladies family eating together after church. There were good and bad things about this. For one, you had a chance to see what you were marrying into from the get go. You also got to see what that person may grow up to look like. The bad thing was that if your parents didn't like your girls parents they could put a stop to you ever seeing her again. Secondly, this helped keep some form of social class in the US. The rich Howells were not going to be having Sunday lunch with BillyBob and his wonderful farm bread family.

Minor? No. Not even with Caifornia's 2 year leeway laws. A cougar? I have in the past and yes, I'd do it again.

Any better word than a cougar? Sounds like a furry invention to me.

You sure about that? I and many other people have never owned a car and still haven't had trouble meeting girls. What you're describing is more a shift towards urbanization as opposed to vehicle innovations - it's real easy to meet previously unknown women when you're in a city and there are loads of them within easy walking distance.

I'm talking about on a grand national level, not about those lucky enough to live in a city. You do realize that before cars and trucks became widely available most people lived spread out from each other and the only time they got together in large groups was for church, marriages, and court actions, right?

Do I need to go into detail on how urbanization as you know it, was made possible by the automobile or does that go with out saying?

Sure, give it a shot. My family has been living in large cities since at least 1800, and the first time any of them bought a car was around 1920 or so. So my opinion is probably biased.

But as I understand from history class, the phenomenon of urbanization began in the late 18th century as the industrial revolution changed the economy from mostly agricultural to one based on manufactured goods, drawing labourers into cities for high-density factory jobs. The automobile was a product of this rather than a cause.

25 and 35 are alot closer than hell, let's say 22 and 16. Those teenage years are major emotional developing periods. I know I don't see myself as the same person I was at 16.

yes, yes it is. Yes a lot of people moved to cities to free themselves from a agricultural lifestyle. BUT, that simple act did not change how people met that much. People where still very loyal to their families and the majority of women were not allowed to run around and do what they want. It was still in bad taste for a women to go out with out her husband, male family member, or sons. A 17 year old girl did not go by herself to the local market so you could hit on her. If she was there, unless she wanted to be seen as a lower class tart, her brothers, her father, her sons, or her husband were most likely there with her.

The south still depended mostly on agricultural goods as at the time it was easier to build factories in cities with ports in the north than to build them in the swampy and HOT ports of the south. Man, you know that. They point that out every time they cover the civil war and racism in the south in school or at least I hope they do. Did your teacher not point out that one of the big reasons the north did not have slaves was that they were becoming urbanized while the south still had to depend on human labor and agriculture? They didn't have those slaves just to be assholes. There were economic reasons too. The north were not super angels that didn’t have slaves because they were above it, in fact they had them after the date that Lincoln banned it in the south. It simply wasn’t economical to have slaves if you could have a factory or machine do the same work. Machines don’t run away, they don’t beet you do death in the night with a hoe and they also don’t drop your watermelons because they hate you.

The majority, however, has not been doing so BY THEMSELVES, until the past 100 years or so (EDIT: this figure is probably wrong. A very important part of that change came about when school became mandatary for so and so amount of your life. No longer did you only meet for church and other local gatherings, you now went to school with the womenz. You went to school with those womenz for quite some time. Probably also you went to church with them so your parents had some idea who they were. Then came the big change. When some genius thought to ask, "Hey Dad, can I barrow the car, I want to take Cindy, you know the Parkers Daughter, to get something to eat after School.” This ushered in a new area of sex being a lot easier to get for us all. There should be a national holiday for the guy who first asked that question and got away with it.
