First time I watched Ichi the Killer I thought was disturbed, but the second time it didn't seem that fucked upQuote:

Picked up Ugetsu for this weekend. I think I'll watch that and Throne of Blood again, maybe Rashomon too.
Yeah, I guess so. It has one of the most complicated twist endings I've ever seen. But it's rewarding in that when you think back (or watch the movie again), all the little things throughout the entire movie add up and make more sense.Quote:

I watched Kikujiro on Thursday night. What a fun movie. Made me really happy. I highly recommend it, and I need the soundtrack now. So good.
Finally got around to picking up the Criterion Collection release of Kurosawa's Ran. That's the first time I've ever seen it. What an amazing film!

Add Fearless to that must see list. Consider it one of Jet Li's best films IMO. Only outclasses by Fist of Legend and Once Upon a Time in China 1 & 2.
Tale of Two Sisters -- lol, everyone I let borrow it think it's the most boring film ever. I think it is very good IMO in the acting and the way the film wraps up. I do think you need to be really patient through the beginning though cause it's slow moving.
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance -- the third of Wook's Vengeance trilogy is very solid, but not as good as Old Boy. Leagues better than Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance though IMO. Old Boy is probably my favorite Korean film of all time except for mindless Rom Coms which I can't get enough of -- Please Teach Me English and My Sassy Girl are brilliant!
Myth -- Jackie Chan's best film in years. Really a great popcorn flick with excellent action and a solid story.
Shinobi -- live-action new ninja film. Really decent though the story pisses me off and the way it concludes is lame. Code of honor and all that doesn't win over those of us who have a lot of common sense.
Duelist -- a new action film with Korean beauty Ha Ji Won. IMO incomprehensible crap. It takes all the artsy Hong Kong style action formulas and mixes them all together making it like a high school experiment in MTV filmmaking. If you want to see good MTV-style filmmaking then watch Chungking Express. This is crap. Ha Ji Won screams all the time too. But she's still gorgeous.
Raise the Red Lantern has been screaming for a good release for years. I have a Chinese DVD that is also horrible. Man, this is hands down among the best films to ever come out of the Mainland and Gong Li is simply magnificent. Truly a masterpiece and it really encompasses the huge difference between Mainland film and southern (HK) style Chinese film.
That's all for now!
This was on my list to get but I wasn't sure on it. Thanks for recommendation. I'll give it an order with my next Yesasia purchase.Quote:
