Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound System
For those of you who weren't aware by now, Microsoft has been working on releasing its own 5.1 Surround Sound unit. I received some details about it via one of their retail promotions. Here's some info on the unit (pic included)
Quote:
Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound System is the newest and most advanced audio system available for gaming, movies and music playback.
The Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound System consists of the highest quality technology, components and manufacturing, to ensure the system is built for today and ready for tomorrow. The system includes a 5.1 speaker system with Apogee's DDX all digital power amplifier, true 5.1 Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby ProLogic II surround sound processing, multiple audio inputs and future networking capability through an optional expansion card; all housed in the back of the system's subwoofer.
The speaker design is based on OMNIPOLAR technology, which disperses sound in a 360-degree pattern (instead of like a flashlight) - immersing the room with crystal clear audio. OMNIPOLAR technology has been developed over the last 20 years and is based on the most comprehensive human hearing and audio speaker study ever conducted. The result is the Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound System, an immersive sound experience with a huge sweet spot, which utilizes a room's natural acoustics as an asset to better audio quality. MaxxBass technology (an industry first) is utilized in the subwoofer and all satellite speakers to ensure you hear and feel the impact of the audio.
The Apogee DDX all digital power 300 watt (RMS) drives 5 identical OMNIPOLAR satellite speakers and an 8" Subwoofer. The state of the art amplifier has five independent audio inputs (3 Digital, 1 Analog, 1 USB 1.1 Device Port) which allow simultaneous compatibility with multiple source formats including all gaming consoles, DVD and CD players, satellite TV, compressed audio (MP3/WMA) and audio from your PC. The system is controlled by a remote control and a wired IR receiver and can be upgraded to receive new firmware and audio codecs via the onboard USB Connection.
