I don't think that having multiple planes would be hard to tell apart, because they could just have 2 anyway... besides, I usually use a GB Player, so it's MUCH bigger :)

TobalRox - Heh. Yeah I like to use a GB Player to play GBA games too :D
However, technically the game makers have to make the game playable (obviously) on GBA SP AND GB Player. Millions of GBA SP owners would be SLIGHTLY ;) upset if GB Player players could see it fine and GBA SP people couldn't ;)
I was just joking about the Player part... if they made it with the player in mind, they might as well make it a budget GC title. But it is nice playing on a 50" TV instead of the usual GBA screen :)
...And magic and block. Plus you can't map either of those to, say, pressing the buttons together because that already does something else (Hyper Mode).Quote:

Well, even with some of the negative things I've been hearing I'll be getting this anyway. since god seems intent on making sure I never play the original guardian heroes or panzer bandit this seems to be the best I'll get for a while.
Don't use PAL, so that isn't a problem. but it's only shipping to the US :(
Apparently, EGM has given this a 6, 7, and 7.5.

Im glad Mario Pinball sucks. That game and its fucking cash run ways need to be exterminated from Nintendo HQ forever.
As for FireRed/LeafGreen.... maybe theyll just never learn.
Yay, new DDR EGM review. I always love how they always mention it's more of the same while playing in Light mode (or Beginner, if the game allows).
Damn, bad showings for some games I was really looking forward to. Guess I'll just wait until they're selling for $5 sometime next year...Quote:

I'm also pretty sure I had already read average scores for Second Sight although I can't remember where.Quote:

I think Game Informer gave it an average review, which basacially summed up the game as "Psi Ops did it first and better and it's cheaper, just buy that".Quote:

Second Sight 5.5, 7.5, 6.5
I guess this is a shame but eh..I read the latest previews on it and the look of the main character just threw me off. I dunno about you but the main character just looks absolutely disturbing. Maybe the Timesplitters artstyle is just getting a wee-bit tired.
Def Jam FFNY 8.5, 8.5, 9.0
Good to hear. Did EGM mention anything about the CAW? I wonder how well that was implemented, even though the CAB has me sold already.
Tiger Woods 2005 8.5, 8.0, 9.5
The game deserves a 10 for Box-art alone.
PS2
Katamari Damacy 8.5, 8.5, 8.5
I know I'd hate this but whatever.
Sly 2 9.0, 8.5, 9.0 (Game of the Month)
I'll be sure to pick this up when it is released as a Greatest Hits in what? 4 months?
Gradius V 7.0, 8.5, 8.0
Let me guess. The major complaint is that the game is too hard? Right?
XBOX
Fable 7.5, 8.0, 9.0 (Jennifer, Mark, Greg)
Eh, the impressions coming in now make me want to check this game out. At the very least it'll stem the wait until Elder Scrolls IV.
Galleon 4.0, 5.0, 4.5
What was the big hoopla all about this game for? Goddamn. It's ugly and it sucks, great combination.
GBA
Mario Pinball 5.5, 3.5, 3.0
Thank God
Advance Guardian Heroes 6.0, 7.0, 7.5
Shameful scores. Then again I hated this game ever since it was first announced for GBA and not PS2 or Gamecube or any "capable" system. Granted Astroboy does rock but..eh...handheld systems just bug me in general.
Well this could at least be considered a sign of things to come, maybe Treasure will actually consider doing real sequels to their games? Hell I hope so at least so maybe I could get Gunstar Heroes 2.(Then again I'd be happy with a Light Crusader 2, very underrated game imo).
Best advice: Just play Guardian Heroes on the Saturn.
Hajime no Ippo and Astro Boy are fucking great games. Treasure can really work the GBA when they want to. I don't want to blame the system; they've clearly shown they know how to push the hardware when they want to. If it comes out bad, it's Treasure's fault for rushing it.
IGN gave it a 6.0
It's not the system's fault, but the game would've benefitted from a system that could actually handle the gonzorg amount of sprites that make Guardian Heroes... Guardian Heroes.Quote:

They were lazy and sloppy with this game. Its Stretch Panic, all over again.

IGN was actually a good site when Mischief Makers came out, though. Nowadays, all their scores are inflated. A 6.0 in 2004 is a lot worse than a 6.2 in 1997 (or whenever the hell that came out).

Played a few levels... The slowdown is really bad. I think I'm gonna play the ROM in an emu that allows me to increase the GBA's clock speed and see if I can't get a better experience.
Has it been said yet, if you need multiple carts for multiplayer?
Played a bit of it. My initial impression is that it would make a good fan-made Guardian Heroes game but it doesn't compare to the original. I probably won't buy it.
It does need multiple carts.
You can't even play Vs mode without other players ;_;
Slowdown didn't bother me and I already ran through it once on normal though =\
Yes you can. They call it "training mode".Quote:

No... I wouldn't call it a "me too attempt of everyhting else out there" any more than Radiant Silvergun is a "me too" attempt at every other shooter. Guardian Heroes wasn't really a refinment of the genre, it was a major break from it.Quote:

It's a good beatemup... Really no glaring flaws leap to mind, except the mediocre graphics and bad localization... It just... isn't great. It's better than Tiny Toons (which was decent) but not as good as Astro Boy. It's not A grade, but it's a solid B.
Wait, Tiny Toons was finally released? I remember hearing it delayed like crazy, and then it seemed there was no talk of it anymore, so I just assumed it was canceled.Quote:

dude, they made an awesome beatemup less than a month ago. Remember Astro Boy? Fuck you. Stick to shmups my ass. It's not even their best genre.
Sorry, but Gradius V is infinitely better than Astro Boy.Quote:

The "fuck you" was for forgetting Gunstar heroes, Alien Soldier, Mischeif Makers, Bangai-O and all their other great non-shmups, not just astro boy, btw, and don't take it to harsh, now.
don't waste your energy..
in every Treasure thread EVER, you can always count on them citing Stretch Panic as "the worst game ever" while conveniently forgetting Treasure's other games..
then, when a less than spectacular game comes out of Treasure, the starved haters jump all over it and declare it "Stretch Panic all over again"..
Pff.

In any case, it's a good game, I liked it a lot. The backgrounds were pretty ass, the floating magic circle racing along a highway being a definite low point of design for the company, and that final level was a big pile of blah. The story was also weak in comparision to the first one and there's no way to skip cut-scenes after you've seen them (which also annoyed me in Astro Boy), and no multiple paths and shortness seem missing after the first game. However, the deflect is really cool and the regular combat is a lot of fun, the homing aspect of attacking takes out most of the major problem I normally have with flat-plane beat 'em ups (since they're sprites in a 3Dish landscape I always have a hard time telling how far up and down the hit boxes reach).
Anyway, started playing this morning and finished tonight, it was way too easy on Normal and I should've known better. Time to earn some characters and pump that difficulty up, though I'm not sure if I should try Hard and go right for Super Hard.
stretch panic the worst game ever? Go play Barney's Hide and Seek.
Visual Boy Advance emulates the CPU at the wrong speed. ROM whores are bitching about the slowdown. It does this on other games as well (Astro Boy, Tales of Phantasia...)Quote:

anyway,
This thread sucks - so much derision for a game that I'm enjoying immensely.
Advance Guardian Heroes captures the feel of the Saturn original very well, ...granted I've only played for an hour or two.
It really seems that everyone set themselves up to hate on a Treasure game months before anyone even played it. In another thread PepsiManJo says something about Gradius and Treasure rocks his balls as long as he disregards Advance Guardian Heroes. WTF?!, this game is great. I'm loving it.
I'm failing to see what's so very wrong with the graphics. Oh, you don't like the backgrounds?,.. holy freakin' knit-picking. The graphics capture the look and feel of the Saturn game very well. Crap, most of the enemies I've encountered appear to be exact replicas of the Saturn sprites.
And the music is perfect. Much more action oriented than Astro Boy's bgm
This game rocks my Knuts, boyyeees!
Well I know one more person Ill never listen to for opinions.
Got everyone up to Edo. Getting so very close to unlocking my girl Cerena, and then it's time for Super Hard/
Has anyone gotten better then 1:34 in Time Attack? I got that fairly early on with Enn but haven't been able to beat it yet, the closest I've come is with Heavy Gear and I think he might be the best one to get a faster time.
Yeah, I've gotten under 1:20 with several characters. My best so far is 1:16 with Valgar.Quote:

JBNagis
I think the game is awesome. The battles are pure pleasure, and the graphics feel like the saturn GH. I hate beat-em-ups really bad, Streets of Rage gives me pain, but this shit is fun. I would say the slowdown isn't even as bad as the SS version. The review is a big pot of shit soup. JBNagis is right though, if you are looking for SS Guardian Heroes, play SS Guardian Heroes, cause of course this isn't the same game.
Hrm... interesting. I hate BEUs too. They should be eradicated as an entire genre. Would I like AGH if I thought Guardian Heroes was mediocre at best? I'm actually happy to hear that AGH and GH have taken different paths.Quote:

Maybe it gets really bad after the first stage, but so far I'm really liking it.
With the day off work today, I sat out under the trees after breakfast and played through Easy difficulty. It was the most fun I've had with a game in quite some time.
It get's really easy if you collect a lot of crystals and up your attack and defense. The leveling up and atribute system is really well done in this game - meaning you clearly notice the difference when you level up of a certain attribute.
Area 5-5 had me quit and walk away for a bit, but I knew I just wasn't getting the timing right for the doublejumps. The game certainly made me stick to repeating certain sections until I improved, particularly the fight with Ginjiru, but it was always fun.
The music created a perfect tension and atmosphere for many of the levels, and the characters sprites are full of personality, along with the forgiving difficulty (leveling-up) this game is an absolute joy to play.
I just got this game a little while ago. Pure fun without the need for crack-cocaine. I am a little disapointed in Ginjiro though. I thought his style would have a few more kicks in it; but this is me at my most nitpicky. Great game overall and f**k the haters.
And anyone else interested in joining the "I heart Dylan" fanclub? His moves kick so much ass, and he is funny in the game too. Allways making excuses for why he doesnt win and such.
Oh and why is Zur's crotch a WMD? :shudder:
i finally picked AGH up. im only at stage 2-8 in Normal so far, but im loving it.
the music and graphics do the job very well (the still screens really dont do the game justice), the humor and action here in spades.
loving the battle mechanics of the game. brawling is super fun.
so far so good. im quite satisfied with my purchase. a very fun little GBA game. time to unlock characters and up the difficulty level soon. good stuff!
My computer died on me last week, so I finally got around to playing my AGH cart (only played the emu before that).
If you played in the emu, don't. The difference in the amount of sowdown is unbeleivable. The game actually has very little slowdown on the real thing. Go figure. I beat the game on normal and hard, and unlocked all the characters. I'm now working on Super-Hard, and it's proving to be a serious challenge. The enemy AI on this setting is really impressive.
I just happened to check my mail while visiting this thread, and to my surprise, my copy of the game was in it. Yay!
