So I was out bowling with some friends, and I got a call from my boy Rich.
He was all "are you sitting down" so I knew something fucked had happened.
"Josh, you remember Rachel?"
Rachel was my girlfriend from high school, hadn't seen in her in about five years.
"Sorry dude, shes dead."
Apparently she overdosed on heroin.
If you're a drinking man, or woman, please throw one back for my girl tonight. Thanks.
I'm sorry man. Losing HS friends(girl/boy/whatever) is the weirdest feeling in the world.
I'm sorry Josh. Really sorry. I'll go out of my way to drink one for her.
Whats really cool is I talked to her a couple of months ago. She was having bad times, and we talked about me going out there to visit for a while.
So I get to have that one hanging over me for the rest of my life. Hooray.

The first girl I asked out was when I was in 7th grade. Her name was Michelle Morales and it took me a while to build up the nerve to ask her. She denied me, which hurt I must say, and each progressive time I would talk to her it was more uncomfortable for me.
When I was about 19, I was in the habit of reading the local newspaper. So, one day, I'm scanning the thing and I see her name in the obituaries. Michelle Morales, 19, attended NPHS, all that.
They found her body under a tree in Arizona, homocide, part of a serial killer's known MO apparently. Never found out if they solved that one, or what the story was, just one of those times when all you can do is shake your head.
This sounds the same for you, only more substantial.
I'll toss back tomorrow's Lortab in her honor.

Don't let it mess with your head too much, I really don't think anything you'd have done would months ago would have prevented an overdose today. No force on earth will ever squeeze enough hours into the day to get everything done that needs to be done. Still sucks, though.
