The argument came on the second day of opening statements in the trial of three men charged with murdering Eddie ``Gwen'' Araujo, 17. The teenager, who lived as a woman, was beaten, strangled and buried in a shallow grave in 2002 after it was discovered that Araujo was biologically male.

``It brought shame and humiliation, shock and revulsion,'' said Michael Thorman, the attorney for Michael Magidson, 23.

Testimony began with details about Araujo's autopsy. The victim's mother, Sylvia Guerrero, dug in her purse for a tissue as jurors were shown photographs of the teen's battered body. She briefly left the courtroom as the injuries were discussed.

The killing drew national attention to the issue of violence against people whose sexual identity conflicts with their biology.

Prosecutor Chris Lamiero, in his opening statement Wednesday, called the death an execution and portrayed Magidson as a tough guy with something to prove, and said he was the man who pulled the rope tight around Araujo's neck.

But Magidson's lawyer described him as quiet and slow to anger. The lawyer said he would put on witnesses who are gay and socialized with Magidson and never saw any evidence of bias.

Also on trial are Jose Merel and Jason Cazares, both 24. A fourth man, 20-year-old Jaron Nabors, was charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter and has been promised an 11-year prison sentence in exchange for testifying against the others.

According to authorities, Magidson and Merel turned on Araujo after they had sex with the teen, became suspicious about Araujo's gender and began to compare notes.

Cazares' lawyer argued that his client had only a peripheral role and was drunk and confused the night of the confrontation. Merel's attorney did not make an opening statement Thursday.

Outside court, Araujo family lawyer Gloria Allred criticized the defense for allegedly blaming the victim. She said Araujo was living honestly as the woman she believed herself to be. ``The real betrayal was by the defendants,'' Allred said.

There's no such thing as "his client acted out of shame and revulsion upon discovering that he had sex with a man". Wrap it up in legal discourse all you want. How do you not notice you're having sex with a man?

This is despicable. The bright light in the case is the 20 year-old testifying against the other defendents.

I'm guessing they're might have been an op but the victim was underage for that sort of thing (unless you can get it before you're eighteen). Murder is murder though.

I know a trans girl (male to female) and she says it's actually pretty easy to have sex with a guy without him knowing.

Personally, I think lying about shit like that earns any and every tranny who does it a punch in the face. Still doesn't come close to justifying the murder, though, and I hope he gets found guilty.

Um, do you guys even know what "transgender" is? I didn't think that the operation was legal before they turn 18.

Still, if it was such a big deal to them, they should have killed themselves instead. It isn't as if they somehow get that stamp of "had sex with a man" revoked when they kill her/him.

??? I am getting confused now. There are far too many "trans" words out there. What exactly does it meant then? I always thought that transgendered = transexual, in the sense that they got the operation done.

EDIT: I get it now. "Transgendered" is used for both transsexuals and transvestites. :/

Actually, transvestites aren't always transgendered. They can simply be men who enjoy dressing like women, or women who enjoy dressing like men, but don't actually feel like the opposite gender. Transsexuals feel like the opposite gender, regardless of whether they actually get the operation or not (hence the phrases pre-op and post-op). Transgender is the same thing as transsexual, but for some reason is considered more PC.

Basically, don't try to figure it out because you'll end up using the wrong word no matter what and then a tranny will organize a rally to combat your gross intolerance.

You think that's confusing? Try asking a trans guy if he's gay or not. No matter what he tells you, you'll still have no clue what he actually fucks.

Incidentally, the most surreal experience of my life was when a guy in stiletto heels and a long red dress was calling me an "intolerant faggot" at the top of his lungs because I made the mistake of calling him transsexual (he apparantly preferred being called transgendered).

They're a touchy bunch.

As long as we are all being honest, I don't know if I'd be able to stop myself from killing someone if I had sex with them and they turned out to be a man, or had aids, or whatever. If not I'd probably fuck them up really bad before I got ahold of myself.

This guy deserves prison, as would I, I'm just saying the transgendered individual played with fire and got burned. *If in fact he/she didn't tell the person the truth. We will probably never know the truth*

Many transgendered people don't seem to grasp the concept that their sexual rights end when they infringe on someone else's. They're so hung up on "I have every right to be who I want to be" that they don't follow it through to the logical conclusion that everyone else has the exact same right. They can't understand the fact that they have every right to consider themselves the opposite sex if they want to, but that doesn't mean whoever they're attracted to has to like it (which is why so many of them lie to get laid). Then again, the gay/les/bi/trans/whatever community are too caught up in their own victimhood to be able to deal with any actual personal responsibility.

Needless to say, I'm not well liked in the "gay community" (I hate that term).
