Take Back that CD AOL
http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5193717.html
California plans to pass a law that would force companies that send unsolicited CD's to include a selfaddress stamped envelope in which to send them back.
Though I don't really care about the AOL CD's anymore and haven't gotten any in a while, this is great. For individuals and the environment. Long run, maybe even for the company itself if they figure out a way to reuse the returned CD's.
If this keeps up, we may have to write in some of these State gov. officials for Federal office.

I don't think it'll be good for the enviroment, I mean you'll have to make the envelope then you have to transport the CD twice. Of course AOL could always send a returned CD out again I suppose, but it would be easier to just stop them from sending their crap in the first place.

Well, stopping them is a whole different matter. It's the same thing with Junk mail. The key difference between that and spam is that AOL has to pay to send you the CD's. Even with this method they will be paying to send them to you and paying to send them back, so I don't mind that as much.

how about scratching the hell out of the cd then posting it back to them?

I got 2 in the last 2 days. :(

Whenever I see an AOL CD display, I take a handful and throw them in the nearest garbage can. Every time. I figure I just saved five or six people from using that awful software.
My favorite time to do it is when I'm at work and I walk over to the Blockbuster to get a soda. I grab a handful to throw out back at the store, with my fellow employees' full support.

Sometimes, you'll get lucky and find a display of them that have the awesome clear thin jewel cases. Every time I find some of these, I take a handful (about 10) with me.

Well, if push comes to shove, there's always EBay. :)

"AOL collector"... yikes.

There was a time I was getting so many of these in the mail I was actually considering building a piece of furniture out of them, much like NGEFreek is/was with those Mario Bros/Duckhunt carts.
Big props to California if they actually get this through, seriously, it's absurd how badly AOL's inundating the marketplace and hurting the environment with all these coasters their sending out to everyone on a daily basis.
