It's mostly that the game feels rushed. Silvia is an extremely weak character, and Joe is just alot better at dispatching enemies. Silvia's attitude and demeanor ruins the scenes she's in when she speaks, which is every one, and I'm not the fan of how everyone is whipped by her.

I feel the bosses are a step down, and that the puzzles are only slightly better than the last game.

The fact that Capcom put no secrets in it whatsoever other than the chambers shows me that they rushed it out the door, espically after all the love that went into part 1 for both the gc AND ps2.

I wouldn't say fucking up, but more like, they put in a gimmick in that ruined the flow of the gameplay. Some people may think the new tag system is awesome, but I feel that it's an un-necessary burden.

If the game let you pick Joe or Silvia from the outset and just use them, and had a different set of cutscenes for each character, I might be able to forgive the other problems. This way I'd never really have to use Silvia, or have her ruin every cutscene for me, and steal the spotlight from Joe.

I'd hardly say the game is "fucked up." It's a brilliant game that only fans of every little nuance of the first game will find a problem with.

Has anyone tried holding down the Z button when tagging in? You can do some pretty cool tag moves together if you have enough VFX. GO SIX MACHINE!

Yep and it is completly useless after you get ZOOM, since the only time to use it is against Flinty to do max damage so you can kill that boring fuck as fast as possible.

Anyway I beat the game, end boss battle music was awesome I thought. My game frooze on the end sequence first time though. I'll be selling this game now, VJ1 is just much better.

I've been a fan of VJ music, it's too bad they never release official soundtracks.

They fucked it up.

Game is still fun as all get out as long as you ignore Sylvia until you actually need her. Few characters are as utterly useless as she.

So I bought VJ2 on Wednesday, and finished my run through "Adults" difficulty today. My impressions of the game, as posted on a different mb:

The new stages blow the first VJ's out of the water. Most of them are parodies of certain films or film genres, and are just bursting with detail. The final stage is an "Aliens" tribute, complete with Aliens to fight. :D

Puzzles are a bit more inspired this time around, which is good.

The music in this one is slightly better, but still not quite top-tier.

Joe and Sylvia are just as rad as they were before, even if Sylvia is a total bitch for the first half of the game. The new enemies are cool too, and some boast new kinds of attack patterns, just to spice things up. The best new enemy in my opinion would have to be the nurse trio... they're like the pink girls from VJ1, except multicolored and with a degree in medicine. One of their attacks has them playing volleyball and spiking the ball at you. Hilarious. The new bosses are 50/50 -- some of them lack the charm the first game's bosses had. Frost Tiger and Rachel (ESPECIALLY her) are fantastic though.

Unfortunately, I have one big complaint about this game, and it is that Sylvia is USELESS. Aside from the puzzles designed specifically to be cleared with her, there's absolutely no reason to use her instead of Joe. Her normal attacks are weaker than Joe's, her punch attack (laser shots) is gay and because of it all of Sylvia's combos are now kickkickkickkick, Replay isn't half as effective as Mach Speed, and her substitute for the RHOH (shoulder check) is weak and has absolutely disgusting startup time. Most enemies I hit with it didn't even flinch unless they were already dizzied. Considering the two characters deal was the big hook for this game, it disappoints me that a bit more thought wasn't put into Sylvia's design. Maybe next time.

Still, all things considered, a great sequel. If you liked the first VJ, get ahold of this one ASAP, you'll enjoy it. Just pretend Sylvia isn't there.

Finally finished the game.

Last impressions:

The game really needed to cut down on the mushy shit. I know Silvia and Joe are together Capcom, I don't need to be reminded of it in every fucking cutscene about how much they love each other.

Silvia has her uses, but is still useless when compared to Joe's RHOH.

The bosses, while interesting, were all way too easy. I finished the bosses for levels 3, 5 and 6 without even getting touched once, on Adult mode, first to second time against them. The later bosses had cool personality though, and Alastor's speech was EASILY the best part of the game. I should have just stopped playing then.

The whole "play against every boss and sub boss at the end of the game gimmick" was ok in Gunstar Heroes, but this is 2004, get with the times Capcom.

Apparently this game sold real shitty, so maybe Capcom will retool the whole game to give us an awesome VJ 3. Or maybe we'll just never see Joe again :(

Also, it seems the game suffers from the Capcom syndrome of "people bitched because the first one was too hard, so the sequel will be alot easier".
