I like the first VJ a lot better.

What's wrong with the bosses? I liked them quite a bit, though I didn't play the first game much so I can't compare.
Well the first game had some memorable bosses that had such an awesome style, they were bad-ass , they were fun to fight, and they were hard.
Flint (Reel 2) is just boring as hell. None of his attacks have any chance of actually hitting you if you know how to jump, and the only time you can hurt him any is when he is sleeping. This makes for a very boring fight. Frost Tiger is probably the best so far, but he is just a rip-off of Fire Leo (VJ1) to begin with. Reel 3, the Chameleon was a joke, damn I didn't even get HURT during that entire fight. Big John..uggg, wish he would stop coming back.
I think this review is really good - http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/game...ew/R81736.html
Flinty Stone or whatever wasn't too bad. You can hit him pretty much at all times (when he's flying around you can kick the orange ball in his tail, or when he's throwing the orange balls on foot you can jump over him and attack from the rear). Cameo Leon was actually one of my favorite fights, though it doesn't really get too challenging until you face him for the second time. I love the battle mech, too, and Dr. Cranken is also a pretty rad fight. Frost Tiger was pretty obnoxious at first, but once I figured him out (took wayyy too long) he wasn't so bad.Quote:

I agree with Valgar on all counts, the boss of Reel 2 was HORRIBLE, espically since every boss in the original VJ had a weakness, and you could theortically take down easily and quickly if you knew it.
The bosses I've fought so far, have had no real weakness, and just seem... there.
Big John is the only one I've liked so far.
Not to mention Silvia is ANNOYING, and really takes away from the humor of the game in the cutscenes.
Is the PS2 version of this game even out yet?
It shipped today; should be in stores tomorrow.Quote:

You don't get Zoom for a little while in this game, but RHoH is still pretty damn powerful.Quote:

I still cannot decide whether to get VJ1/2 for GCN or PS2.... They both have their pros and cons... Well I guess I will get whatever goes onsale first hehe.
Are you playing on Kids mode? When I played, Zoom didn't stop the ninjas like it did the other enemies and they'd still attack while I was zoomed in.Quote:

WHy do you care so much about the fate of PS2 version? Just enjoy your Cube version, which is superior, and leave it at that.Quote:

You suck for spending $20 on 5 kb that are 20 years old.
I know, I know, but my NES is broken and I wanted to play Zelda on this long trip I was going on. I ended up playing Metroid: Fusion, instead and never even opened Zelda.
Sorry for getting off-topic.
I'm on Adults mode. It doesn't stop their attacking, but does it matter? If you are slowed and zoomed you beat the tar out of them and if they do get to attack before they are dead you will automatically dodge it. In VJ1 I remember a lot of enemies had to be dodged correctly before you could even hope to kill them.Quote:

I thought the RHOH was useless in part one. Except against Fire Leo where its a requirement. All that feature really was was an item collector. Or it was used to speed up walking long distances. Aginst enemies it was kinda uselss. Slow Mo and ZOOM was a different story though. You needed slo mo for most enemies and the ZOOM for all of the bosses.
RHOH stands for Red Hot One Hundred. It wasn't useless. It was really powerful. Do you mean mach speed?Quote:

"ZOOM and SLOW PUNCH" = the RHOH (Red Hot One Hundred)Quote:

Really? My bad. Why does the name not fit the move at all? RHOH would fit the flying images of joe on fire prefectly though.Quote:

At least VJ 1 gave me incentive to do everything in the game.
That actually sounds easier than all rainbow V's. I've got the VJ love to see it through all the chambers.Quote:

I feel the bosses are a step down, and that the puzzles are only slightly better than the last game.
The fact that Capcom put no secrets in it whatsoever other than the chambers shows me that they rushed it out the door, espically after all the love that went into part 1 for both the gc AND ps2.
Capcom!
Fucking up the sequels to awesome games, BECAUSE THEY CARE!
I wouldn't say fucking up, but more like, they put in a gimmick in that ruined the flow of the gameplay. Some people may think the new tag system is awesome, but I feel that it's an un-necessary burden.Quote:

I'd hardly say the game is "fucked up." It's a brilliant game that only fans of every little nuance of the first game will find a problem with.Quote:

Yep and it is completly useless after you get ZOOM, since the only time to use it is against Flinty to do max damage so you can kill that boring fuck as fast as possible.Quote:

I've been a fan of VJ music, it's too bad they never release official soundtracks.Quote:

So I bought VJ2 on Wednesday, and finished my run through "Adults" difficulty today. My impressions of the game, as posted on a different mb:
The new stages blow the first VJ's out of the water. Most of them are parodies of certain films or film genres, and are just bursting with detail. The final stage is an "Aliens" tribute, complete with Aliens to fight. :D
Puzzles are a bit more inspired this time around, which is good.
The music in this one is slightly better, but still not quite top-tier.
Joe and Sylvia are just as rad as they were before, even if Sylvia is a total bitch for the first half of the game. The new enemies are cool too, and some boast new kinds of attack patterns, just to spice things up. The best new enemy in my opinion would have to be the nurse trio... they're like the pink girls from VJ1, except multicolored and with a degree in medicine. One of their attacks has them playing volleyball and spiking the ball at you. Hilarious. The new bosses are 50/50 -- some of them lack the charm the first game's bosses had. Frost Tiger and Rachel (ESPECIALLY her) are fantastic though.
Unfortunately, I have one big complaint about this game, and it is that Sylvia is USELESS. Aside from the puzzles designed specifically to be cleared with her, there's absolutely no reason to use her instead of Joe. Her normal attacks are weaker than Joe's, her punch attack (laser shots) is gay and because of it all of Sylvia's combos are now kickkickkickkick, Replay isn't half as effective as Mach Speed, and her substitute for the RHOH (shoulder check) is weak and has absolutely disgusting startup time. Most enemies I hit with it didn't even flinch unless they were already dizzied. Considering the two characters deal was the big hook for this game, it disappoints me that a bit more thought wasn't put into Sylvia's design. Maybe next time.
Still, all things considered, a great sequel. If you liked the first VJ, get ahold of this one ASAP, you'll enjoy it. Just pretend Sylvia isn't there.
Finally finished the game.
Last impressions:
The game really needed to cut down on the mushy shit. I know Silvia and Joe are together Capcom, I don't need to be reminded of it in every fucking cutscene about how much they love each other.
Silvia has her uses, but is still useless when compared to Joe's RHOH.
The bosses, while interesting, were all way too easy. I finished the bosses for levels 3, 5 and 6 without even getting touched once, on Adult mode, first to second time against them. The later bosses had cool personality though, and Alastor's speech was EASILY the best part of the game. I should have just stopped playing then.
The whole "play against every boss and sub boss at the end of the game gimmick" was ok in Gunstar Heroes, but this is 2004, get with the times Capcom.
Apparently this game sold real shitty, so maybe Capcom will retool the whole game to give us an awesome VJ 3. Or maybe we'll just never see Joe again :(
Also, it seems the game suffers from the Capcom syndrome of "people bitched because the first one was too hard, so the sequel will be alot easier".
Good thing I passed on it. That's how they destroyed Maximo too :(
They got rid of Ultra-V rated ;_;
Oh well, the chambers will remedy my need for difficulty.
I think you're exaggerating a bit... either that, or you just have a very liberal definition of "mushy". There were only one or two scenes in the entire game that I thought were a little over-romantic; and I haven't seen anyone else complain about this sort of thing at all.Quote:

I thought this at first too, but I'm not really sure. I mean, I was just working my way through V-Rated in the first VJ before I got this one, and I'm guessing most people also worked their way through the harder difficulties... maybe the game's not easier, but we're just too good at it. I dunno.Quote:

In any case, I still think VJ2 is a fine sequel that just needed a little more polishing. It's better than most new MM games, at least.
I think the whole "Ass-kicking couple" thing is both entertaining and endearing at the same time. It's also not something you see all too often, and it looks like Capcom had fun with it.
I don't remember who was asking or know if it's been answered yet, but yes the Cube version does support progressive scan. For some reason the PS2 version doesn't though.
I'm in Reel three and I can't figure out the first damned puzzle. I'm in the women's bathroom, and there's a button on the ceiling I need to hit 3 times, but the reply power isn't doing it. I've tried jumping into it with Joe, I've tried punching enemies up into it, and I've tried damn near everything else. Lil'help?
You have to be in zoom replay with Sylvia, and do a spinning zoom jump into the button. That will raise another "replay tower" above ground that you need to hit simultaneously with the other one already present using Sylvia's Zoom Replay circular kick.Quote:
