I really liked this Enix SNES RPG but I gave up on it and never finished it.

I vaugely remember this one but I never found a copy, Brainlord was another RPG that came out in the same timeframe I believe.
What made you stop?
Korian
I haven't played Brainlord, which came out a year after The 7th Saga. I know both games were developed by Produce but are they related in story?
I stopped playing The 7th Saga because I got stuck and since I was borrowing the game, I felt I shouldn't keep it too long.
this game was one of the worst games enix had ever put out
Pretty good game but it has the worst ending I've ever seen.
Christ, every time I think I'm free, someone reminds me of this game. I'll tell you right now, don't expect a decent ending. Wouldn't even call it an ending. Its an inhumanly long game, and is hard as hell in the last stages. The bosses aren't what get you; the regular enemies are too damn powerful. The block and attack method really needed to die a horibble death. Stupid sense of duty made me finish it. Didn't stop me from quitting on FF8. Shoot, I'm ranting.
This game, unfortunately, epitomized Enix to me, total disappointment. Same for Brainlord, i hope Enix disappears someday.
farfus, are those the only Enix games you have played? If so you're missing out on stuff like ActRaiser, Dragon Warrior, Valkyrie Profile, Soul Blazer and many others.
Also, has anyone played Robotrek? It's another Enix SNES RPG (by Quintet, IIRC). Is it any good?
Nah, i played Actraiser 2, it was disappointing also. As far as the Dragon Warrior's go, that is very old school stuff at this point. Im hoping to kinda raise the bar as far as my gaming experiences go. I do have Actraiser in my archives i can try for old times sake, which, trust me, im not too far from being to that point in gaming nowadays.
I highly recommend Robotrek. It's a definite change of pace from most RPGs. And I might be alone in this, but I really like Actraiser 2.
Man, I loved 7th Saga. The graphics are on par with anything on the system, and the music might be better. Yeah, the game's hard, but it wasn't repetitive enough to make me hate it, like i did with Phantasy Star II. And yeah, the ending's a total rip off after all that work, but I still loved it.
And Farfus - the first Actraiser is a much different and much better game than the second. And Dragon Warrior VII kicks ass, so leave it alone.
Good - gorgeous graphics, 2nd best ever on Super Nintendo outside of Final Fantasy 3. Incredible soundtrack, the song that plays when you encounter an enemy still rings in my head. Multiple playable characters, able to tag-team with one other character. The fact that some random playable characters can become enemies during the game, found that nifty.
Bad - Hard as hell, too many random encounters, random enemies too difficult, bosses insanely difficult and killed you frequently forcing startover from last save point. Lackluster story and ending.
From a strictly audio and video standpoint, it was one of the best ever produced for SNES, but in terms of gameplay and substance, blech
I remember renting it a few times. Fun game, though hard as hell. The fact that you only had two party members didn't help at all....
Robotrek was great. Probably one of my favorite SNES games.
After playing this game through three times, I still had to use the hint book (the dams! The dams!). I still played it through though. You should too, Strider. You're missing out on a great RPG experience. On GBA perhaps?Quote:

Yes it is. The second has HORRIBLE gameplay, Your character walked as though he were heavily sedated, and jumped like a pregnant cow.Quote:

But at least it's not as piss-easy as the first one.Quote:

I never found Phantasy Star 1 to be that easy. But then again, it was the first RPG of its kind that I played. It's a fairly short game though, under 15 hours if you know where to go.
I found Phantasy Star IV to be the easiest in the series.
Er, I was referring to Actraiser 2.
Oops. Never mind. I'm a tard.
Yes, ActRaiser 1 is very easy. :)
And Actraiser 2 is very bad. :)Quote:

I dunno...I really don't get why people are so into this game, and I have a sneaking suspicion it has alot to do with it being the only thing available to Genesis owners at the time. It has way more fights than a game with too many fights, and they're hard. The dungeons go on forever and all look pretty much the same, and are almost all boss-free. The game also requires a ridiculous amount of levelling up.Quote:

None of that would bother me if I found any motivation to keep playing - the great story people always talk about is told in one 2 paragraph chunk for every 6 hours of random fights. But far more egregious is the extremely lame battle system - I honestly can't think of an rpg with a worse one. For the most part, you don't even control the action unless you make a specific point to interrupt the computer fighting itself. And it'll then keep on doing the same thing over and over until you tell it not to. Another annoying thing is how certain necessary party members are so weak that it isn't worth your while to have them attack but just defend all the time, rendering them dead weight.
Yeah, it had great graphics for its era, but isn't much compared to other stuff on the system. It's got some cool tunes. And Nei dies and it's sad and meaningful and everything...sorta, since she's only said about five lines in the whole game leading up to her demise. I know the series has alot of fans, but I can't find this game worthy, which is why I gave up.
