game faqs?
link?
Eh, it looks alright...but I don't like that gamespot has its named pissed all over the place.
Ugh. That's so amateurish. Way harder to navigate than the old site. Change it back!

I preferred it back when it had all of the systems listed on the front page, so you could jump right to them. At least that's one thing they fixed.
On the Mac the thing looks horrible (Camino, Safari, IE). There's this lone space for the advertisement, and the real content (polls, top 10's, etc) is pushed down beyond the initial load.
I like the new look, but their content placement is atrocious.
The boards and faq lists haven't changed.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/
I rarely visit the front page... what's the point?
It's not hard like calculus or anything, but the old design had everything right there in front of you. Now I have to fish around for stuff, there's no style to it whatsoever, and that dropdown "platform jumper" doesn't actually have every system on it.Quote:

BTW, vote soul calibur.
Gah! My eyes!
Actually, it really doesn't matter, I barely go there unless I need game release info.
It takes me two pages to get to one of the other system's pages now. But no matter, as most of the content is junk anyway.
What they really need to do is fix their "coming soon" lists.
Where the hell is the FM towns marty listed? I could almost swear they knocked a few lesser known system off that list.
They had to make room for N-Gage.Quote:

Besides saying this layout is better than the old one really isn't saying much. Gamefaqs has always had a shitty lay out.
It's not like it could get any worse.Quote:

I wanted to sign up for the message boards to get info on missing systems, but they only accept email issued from an ISP to create an account.
Last thing we need is a sub fee just to read the guides.
I hate all the freaking adds...my god. But other then that, its a nice change...
The beta boards (what the boards will eventually become) look pretty much like the main site, and it'll take a while for me to get used to the changes.
Eh, it's not, but they had to make room for all the new ads, seeing as they've completed their metamorphosis into Gamespot's bitch. There's money to be made.Quote:

I like the re-coloring of the review listings on my contributor page. It sure is more visually appealing than the white/grey/white/grey listing of before. Although it will make it a little tougher to number how many reviews I have for a given system.
Well the redesign hasn't ruined my life like some of you but it is pretty lame. The original design was alot easier on the eyes too.
On the plus side, Starcraft beat Halo.
Gamefaqs is fucking shit.
They've saved me plenty of money that would have otherwise been spent on useless guides.Quote:

Oh well. Alienation of fanbase is cool.
Yeah they host FAQs, many of which you can get elsewhere (and I do). But as a general gaming site it's shit. The boards are full of 13 year olds who can barely spell, and they police them like it's some communist regime.
 CJayC... why...
Because there's nothing worse than getting information, reviews, and having discussions relating to obscure games that barely rate a mention on TNL, all for free. Yeah.Quote:

Eh... all the other sites pretty much just crawl GameFAQs with spiders, stealing the FAQs. IGN FAQs are pretty much the only other good clean FAQs site. The rest are run by fucking arseholes. GameFAQs is (well was, now, kinda) run by a guy that really likes games (TEH hardcore ones too) and writing FAQs, so in that way he was the perfect webmaster of a Video Game FAQs site. He built it up from a fucking tiny shitty AOL site too. Much props.Quote:

Sure, there are occasional stupid topics just like on every other single messageboard in existance, but for lesser known games they are few and far between.Quote:

Good points all round. If you do sift through the crap you can occasionally find some really good info. But that's true of many gaming sites. I guess I'm just tired of the sifting. I also guess I just really don't like Gamefaqs' layout (new more than old) and that's probably why I think it's shit.
TNL is definitely my fave gaming board out there, because there is such a low "crap-factor". The vast majority of threads here are actually worthwhile, and the people here are easily of the highest intelligence/coolness of any gaming boards.

I've never had to do any sifting. I just go to the boards within gamefaqs of the games I like, which happen to be of the more obscure type, and nine out of ten times there's a worthwhile discussion going on. Games that I can't have a discussion about on TNL because most of the people here aren't interested in them. Though if it's a popular game, like the recent Ninja Gaiden, I'll usually just get my info here and only scan the gamefaqs board occasionally since popular games there don't have many decent topics.Quote:

Ammadeau has a point.
If you're constantly dissing gamefaqs, you either don't need it or don't know how to get the most out of it. For me, it's an excellent resource for imports.
Gamefaqs = priceless source of free info and guides
Gamefaqs forums = (mostly) the worst on the 'net
Well said, When I get stuck in Resident Evil, I'm not going to come to TNL so you guys can either a.) call me a fag for playing RE or b.) tell me to use the Eagle Key, when you fucking know that there is not an Eagle Key in the game or c.) LOLz.Quote:

Try clicking on any gamefaqs message board... (I know, I know... humor me.) You get sent over to the screen above. If those SOB's try to make my contributions part of their pay service, I'll rip them down.
edit: now it's back up & running. :wtf:
Well, that was a major underhaul. At least it's good that they use the Tahoma font so capital I's and lowercase L's don't look alike- making it harder for other users to impersonate you (someone there with the nick of King Kool had another user imping him with King KooI- a bad thing). The gray box at the top is rather blah looking- it's fine if they wanted to jack with the colors, but that menu should have been kept on the left.
A GameFAQs "classic" appearance has been promised, which means that it should be implimented within the next few months.
From a design standpoint, it's a step in the right direction--it doesn't look quite like a fansite anymore. I don't like GameSpot's streaming video ads (that have to load in the MediaPlayer plugin that Mozilla doesn't like, and plain look ugly). And that picture of Bethany or whatever...that's definitely the worst picture I have ever seen willingly posted on the Internet.
Depends on what you're looking for from a design.
re: webdesign, fuctionality should always be pairamount, so I think the new revision is a step in the wrong direction.
I'm talking more visual design. Again, it looks less like a fansite now, which I think is good. I never used the GameFaqs front page beyond the game search box, so I don't really know or care about the rest of the usability. Everything else seems to have the same usability with a different look that we'll have to get used to.
...Though I still think the site needs more effort put into the visual design. It looks less like a fansite now, but still looks like a fansite.
At least it looks better than Gamespot, though that's true of websites made by grade schoolers using AOL quick make web tool.
It is a fansite anyway, so why shouldn't it look like one?
Wow, the search feature is retarded. I tried to search for Future Tactics, and the results page listed every Back to the Future game, and every game with "tactics" in the title EXCEPT Future Tactics. Quotes and boolean operators didn't help either.
Works fine for me. It's right at the top.Quote:

Meh....it's ok.
