Onimusha 3

I didn't see a thread for this already, so here goes.

I just picked it up last night. I never played either of the first 2 Onimusha games, but this one so far is pretty kickass. It seems like there's an awful lot of watching in the very beginning as opposed to doing, but the story is really cool (IMHO) so I don't really mind. My only complaint so far is that they throw you into combat early in the game with NO TRAINING whatsoever. Maybe this isn't a problem if you played the first 2 games, but I was completely unfamiliar with the controls, and assumed there would be some kinda explanation. Also, you can get training at save points, but you can only initially train in 3 categories, which are far from comprehensive. I'd like some sort of moves list when you pause the game, ie Ninja Gaiden.

Also, why is it that all French people in the game speak French, but all Japanese people speak English?

We didn't get the sword controller at my store yet, but since no one preordered one, I doubt we will. Looks pretty awesome though.

And, since I never downloaded the video of the intro FMV, I was totally blown away when I saw it. I thought the fighting in the movie looked a shitload more realistic than the fighting in any other CG movie in the past. Really great stuff.

About time some made the thread. Before I did it anyway ;)

Picked it up yesteraday, and so far its pretty good. I love option for both old style controls, and new Analog set up, which makes everything much better. Too bad there is still no Jump, but it never was in Onimusha series.

Korly, There is training option, once you get to Magical Mirror, which is right there in the beginning of the game. You can go through beginning control, Blocking, Use of Bow and Lock On Attacks with R1 + Square sessions (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), and more training will be available later in the game.

I puzzled by Capcom's decision to only have English dub for Japanese speaking characters. While voices are not horrible (at least not yet), I would have enjoyed original Japanese VA instead.

The opening movie by ROBOT is phenominal. Amazing rendering, life like characters and movements, awesome fight choreography by Donnie Yen. Capcom really done great job there.

The undead samurai assault on Paris with slaughter of people was also very cool, but done as good as first movie, but its understandable.

You start the game with all of your original weapons from Onimusha 1 powered up, but once you get trasported to France, you start anew. With new sword selection too. So far I got twin light swords, and I lovin them.

There are new enemie varieties, in addition to the good old samurai zombies and demon ninjas.

I only got past first boss fight Demon Mech , and it was pretty good. Almost got killed, but went into Super Oni state right at the last moment and beat the crap out of it :)

Do the people control like tanks?

The first Onimusha was a kickass little game, but I kept waiting for them to release 2 on Xbox, even though I knew it wouldn't happen. I guess I'll pick it up now that EB's selling it used for some belly button lint and 2 Subway stamps.

Capcom said this would be the last one, although they seem to have no qualms about spin offs. Who wants to bet Onimusha Online is next?

How "new" does the game feel? I ask because I loved the first game but when I rented the second game it felt like such a rehash that it was hard to feel the same way about it. It even repeated whole areas from the first game.

No. With Analog control people control like normal people now. Response time is much faster. Jumping is the only thing that you still cant do.

Well, Granted I havent gotten far into the game yet, but it seem both France and Ancien Times levels are brand new. They probably will revisit the Nobudanaga temple one more time for final battle, but so far its all different.

Because swinging a sword at the TV while screaming fake japanese war cries would fucking rock.
