I am looking into getting some psyvariar games, given the good things I've heard about them. However, I'm a bit confused because of all the different releases of the game and whatnot.
1) What is the release history of all games/variants in this series? I know that 1 and 2 came out on the DC, but what is this "Medium Unit" version?
2) What are the best versions and games in the series?

There are 3 games in the series so far.
Psyvariar Medium Unit, Revision, and 2. The first came out in arcades in 1999 (or thereabouts), with Revision and 2 following in roughly 2 year intervals.
Medium Unit and Revision are on PS2 (either seperately or in the "Complete Box", which is just both games on one disc). 2 is the only Psyvariar on Dreamcast. 2 is also coming to XBox. I've heard that it'll be on PS2 as well but I haven't seen anything confirming that recently so I'm not too sure about it. (More than likely I'll just get the DC version if another month goes by without mention of the PS2 version).
Complete Box is nice, runs well on PS2, but I only play Revision on it when I load the game up. I see Medium Unit much more commonly on ebay than Revision, but I'd be hard-pressed to recommend getting Medium seperately. Most people that have DC Psy 2 like it (only dissenter so far here is jp), but the common complaint elsewhere is that the hit box is too small and death only comes deliberately.
The hit box is tiny, but that's true of alot of other shooters and isn't the problem.Quote:

The small hit box isn't a problem when the game encourages you to scrape up against bullets. You'll get hit eventually. :)
Anyway I've only played 2, but I dig it. Worth a buy if you like the genre.

dog$, Psyvariar 2 is coming to PS2, Skonec's site even mentions it, so after it hits Xbox in August I guess we'll hear about the PS2 release. *-neo
Never played Medium Unit or Revision, but Psyvariar 2 has style for a 3D graphics game. It resembles Ikaruga (bang!), and it's a lot nicer than Shiki 2. Love the music, by the way. Gameplay is meh, thoe.
Since when do 3d graphics inhibit style?
