I never really understood the whole VO craze some people have, but that may be because I've never had a pair of twin sticks. I played the DC version, and it sucked donkey balls on the DC controller :p I'd love to give it another try if I ever pick up some twin sticks though.
Although it isn't all it could be with the pad, I would not say it sucks completely... It just is missing quite a bit... When I finally get to use the sticks I know I'm gonna be able to do just so much more that simply wasn't feasible with the pad...
Like a whole new game.

Heck, it's almost 2nd nature now with me - the biggest thing to understand is rotating, sticks or sans, is the biggest waste of time. A quick jump -> cancel will auto align you on the opponent anyway.
What characters do you guys use? I mainly stick with Temjin or Bal, but I'd love to meet a Raiden player and get some pointers.
That's one thing I love about the games, is the character designs. I used Temjin when I played it, just cause he looks so cool :)
I have Virtual On on Saturn and VOOT on DC but I rarely play either of them. Twin Sticks would make them more enjoyable, I suppose. And for some reason I find the Saturn one much easier to control than the DC one.

*Ahem* Anyway, well my favorite is either Fei-Yen or Apharmd Battler. Metal_Slug, you play as my least favorite Virtuariod (aside from Dordray).

Metal_Slug - I'll let you know right now that VOOT has beyond alot of moves, me and my friend who have been playing 3+ years (or however long its been out, both of us since US launch day) were still finding moves with the DC pad up until around last month, mainly it was just Close Combat combos and whatnot, but it was still new stuff, and as for animation of the VR's and how they pull off different combos, thats also nuts, I mean, with Dordray, his Center Weapon CC move differs wether or not your facing the enemy VR, and Fei-Yen's CC Ground Attack has massive animation within the arms and hands, and the Bal series, how I love thee, gettin Funky Frash while still beating the lube out of your opponent, muahahahahaha.
As for not being able to play well with the DC pad, you must truly suck or prefer a fighter where you mash buttons all day, DC pad setup is one of the best for VOOT, IMHO. You have everything you'd need in the right place, the Left and Right turbos are on the fest and right face buttons, jump is the top face button and crouch/guard is the bottom face button, the left right and center weapons are the left right and both shoulder buttons, you "steer" with the D-Pad which is nice and can rotate with the analog pad, I mean, it doesn't get any better without twinsticks to me, if only more fighting games had such nice controls.
Oh well, enough ranting, I presume flames in the future for actually being able to play wth the DC pad and liking it over twinsticks, yes, you heard me, I like the DC pad better than the twinsticks.
The DC pad could have used 2 extra buttons like the Saturn pad has. I loved how the shoulder buttons could be used on the Saturn pad for rotation and the extra 2 face buttons used for weapons. The DC pad works, but for a guy like me with fairly large hands, the combination of the analog and digital pads were seriously a hand cramper. The DC version just screams to be used with the twin sticks.
Outside of the first couple hours and some special moves, I don't think I touched the analog stick at all. Jump-cancling just works so much better. 'course, using cypher's jet move is a pain in the ass..Quote:

Hero! Fun thing to do with Raiden. As soon as the match starts, use the left turbo middle weapon, then follow up with the right turbo main gun. Give it a try. :D
I have long wanted Virtual On for Saturn, and then later VOOT for Dreamcast...but for one reason or the other I never got either game. I always thought they looked super cool though.
Anyway, I just picked up VOOT the other day at Circuit City brand new for only $15. It made my day... I have only played the game a little but so far and I've gotten thrashed. It may take a while to get used to the controls but I think it'll be worth it. The game looks fantastic.
