I was playing my NES last night (Batman is the shit!) and was wondering if there is any way to upgrade to a better signal via some sort of mod or something. RCA, while much better than RF, still sucks when everything else is in s-video and component.
I know some people here have mentioned RGB or something for the NES, but can it output any better signals like the Genesis and AES?
You're out of luck without a heavy mod. The video processing chip in the NES puts out composite video directly, nothing else. The only way to get anything better is to remove the video chip, steal the video chip out of a Playchoice 10 arcade board, and put the Playchoice chip into the NES. Then you can get RGB from that. Once you have RGB, you can covert that to either S-video or composite with the propper boards.
According to Matt, he installed RGB in a NES using his new amp chips to test it out, but was getting graphics glitches in the games. So I assume it's not feasable right now until he can find a reliable solution.
Sadly, I've packed my NES away since I can't bear to play in composite anymore.
Does the PC10 have a cartridge input, by any chance?
PC10's have 10 cart slots. The problem is the carts are different than their NES counterparts. In fact, they aren't carts at all. They are thin bare PCBs. Technically I guess if you take the plastic off of an NES game they look like that too, but the point is they are incompatible. There's a rumor that it is possible to make a converter to plug NES games into a PC10, but I've never seen anything solid on that. Plus don't forget you need two RGB monitors to run a PC10.Quote:

I actually prefer RF for my NES games. It's a matter of overall blurred mess with RF Vs nasty dot crawl with composite. I can't stand dot crawl that pronounced, so I go with the blurred mess that is RF.
