City of Heroes

Hey guys. I haven't played an MMORPG since the Star Wars Galaxies launch last Summer. Usually I find myself bored with the mythos or grind involved in a MMORPG. In Galaxies I actually played for quite awhile, getting myself to the status of Creature Handler. And while the game was a step up for the MMORPG world, it didn't hook me.

My brother, who buys every single MMORPG known to man for some reason, is always suckered into buying these things. I don't know why, but he recently picked up the new City of Heroes MMORPG and I was immersed in the customizable features in the game. I really enjoy the game and think I may just stay the course here.

I made an electricity controlling mutant named White Shock on the pinnacle server and I'm currently level 5. At level 6 I will gain the ability to hover and keep going until I can fly. This game is fun and I'm not finding it boring. I think they streamlined the MMO model enough to make it fun for me.

So I was wondering if anybody was thinking about trying it out, so maybe we could play. I'm on the Pinnacle server (first one on the list) and having lots of fun.

I was kind of curious about the game.Do you just run around the city and fight computer controlled villians of varying difficulty (like fantasy MMORPG's) to level? Are fights point, click, and walk away like usual or anything new added to the mix?Do you have the option of creating a villian? How about PvP, like fighting against other peoples heroes/villians?

Dont think Ill pick it up as I have no time for MMORPG's , much less anything, recently, but it did catch my eye the other day.

The game right now is pretty bare bones. There are super villains you can fight, but like all MMORPGs you have to leave be at higher levels to get to them. Levelling in this game is quite fast and easy, and the fighting system is a lot like KOTOR. You have to key up attacks in a sequence. If you sit there and wait for your guy to attack he will do nothing.

You also can't create a villain yet. They said they'll release that for the next patch, which is when I suspect PVP will pick up dramatically. But there's a lot of mission oriented stuff and things going on.

For instance I stopped to talk to another hero, I commented him on his super hero get up because I thought he looked cool. So we all stopped and chatted for a bit, when all of a sudden the guy was blasted with some liquid gun. I turn around and there's a huge group of anti-Mutants. They only attack the 'mutant' super heroes. Unfortunetly for me, I'm a mutant. It was fun.

There are missions and bosses you have to fight in this game. It works like this: There are three types of enemies. Minions, which are the grunts, Lieutenants, which are the middle guys, and Bosses, who control these guys. Right now all I've seen are the anti-mutants and thugs. But there are other mutants and even super villains.

Oh and while there is levelling, the entire game bases itself around getting enhancements. These things are like... sort of Materia. Each power you have has slots, and you put these enhancements in to them to make them stronger. You can also combine enhancements. Right now I have an ice bolt or something like this... and it's strong. But I crafter a power 6+ enhancement and put it in there. Now I can usually kill minions in one hit.

Levelling up isn't such a grind.

Anyone else on TNL playing this? I bought it on Monday and I'm having a great time with it.

This game is the closest yet to getting me into an MMORPG, but I still stay away.

It's the best MMORPG I've played. I'm still the same character but have no time to play it now. Oh well, it was fun.
