Cozy Okuda (Executive Producer, Atlus): Okuda is responsible for the Shin Megamitensei series. He comments, "I have yet to see detailed specs, but I feel that with two screens and two CPUs it will be possible to create new game styles." Shifting gears a bit, he continues with, "At the same time, and this is just my personal feeling, I sympathize with the concept of taking an approach to game development that's different from current visual technology focused development. How [the DS] is turned into real games should be difficult, but this type of change of ideas is needed for the game industry."
Shugo Takahashi (Vice President, Camelot): Shugo Takahashi, with his brother Hiroyuki, is responsible for Mario Golf, Mario Tennis and more. Shugo comments "With the ability to play games on two screens, we should be able to do things that were previously impossible. From the perspective of a gamer and the perspective of a developer, this is an exciting piece of hardware. When software that makes use of the system's features arrives I'm certain that I'll be pulled in to the max, so I'm very much excited about what kind of software will come out." He finishes up by commenting that he'll have to go to E3 to try out the new experience.
Hiroyuki Takahashi (President, Camelot): The other side of the Takahashi relationship comments on his love of Nintendo as a whole, stating "I've been a Nintendo fan for the longest time, the reason being that while they lead in hardware and software, they have a superb stance on user friendliness." Commenting on the DS, he states his belief that the hardware could open up new avenues in the industry and that he and his company would like to offer their help.
Yuji Naka (President, Sonic Team): The man behind Sonic, Nights and more comments "I've been waiting for this! I greatly sympathize with the approach taken of offering a new game play experience. The ability to play link-up games with just one Game Boy Advance cartridge was like this, and we cannot overlook this new experiment." He continues, stating how his imagination is going wild, and how he can't wait for the hardware, finishing up with "It's from Nintendo, so it should be hardware that's fun even if you've only touched it. We'd definitely like to offer software for launch." We're not sure if our translation adequately conveys it, but Naka seems to be very excited about the hardware.
Toshihiro Nagoshi (President, Amusement Vision): Mr. Daytona and F-Zero AX/GC comments, "When I first saw it, I was like '?'. When I read the product summary, I was like '!'. And when I saw the specs, my impression was 'This is so Nintendo.' Commenting on the possibility of new games, he offers, "This should give birth to new ideas for using the two screens to their max and allow enjoyment of a new form of play. I'm personally most interested in this area."
Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Game Producer): The former Sega employee and former producer of games like Sega Rally, Space Channel 5 and Rez, offers up a bit of analysis on the hardware, stating "Having two separate screens is an idea that fits with the times. This is because game players' thinking is slowly heading in the direction of multitasking. More than just hardware evolution, this machine has the possibility of evolving human brain functionality, and this is why I'm paying attention to it."
Koichi Nakamura (President, Chun Soft): Chun Soft is a popular Japanese studio that makes the Mysterious Dungeon series and other Japan-only efforts. Nakamura comments, "With the previously unseen idea of having two screens, management of windows and other layering-style issues seem like they will be solved. Plus, we can create software that fits with the increasing speed of information management that users have." He finishes off with his belief that many ideas that go to the fundamentals of gaming will appear.
anyways, i'd really like to hear what KCEJ and Klonoa Works think about this thing. a Snatcher/Policnauts style game would be awesome on a system like this. i'd love to see what Klonoa Works could come up with. oh, and of course Mizuguchi.
