Namco is going to reveal more during E3.
Now there's a surprise.
Tekken isn't very fun.
That is all.
Love TTT.
Hate T4.
Here's hoping T5 is like TTT and online. Otherwise, I'll pass.
please god let Jin still be hot
I don't even know what to say to that one.
hope they make a TTT and T3 combination then u can count me in
I didn't get to play Tekken Tag that much, but I remember having so much fun with Tekken 3. I don't think I've ever played a fighting game with that much cool stuff to unlock.
Tekken 5 is supposedly going to be different to its predecessors, in that it will be a more 'realistic' fighting game than they were. I guess that suggests that it could end up playing similarly to Virtua Fighter 4 as a result.
Given how mediocre R Racing Evolution was, and that was hyped as a realistic Ridge Racer, I'm going to go ahead and say it's going to be pretty average at the very best.
they're made by different teams, and Racing Evolution is awesome.Quote:

R4 is my favorite racing game ever. R Racing Evolution is dripping with mediocrity. We've argued this before, Barton, and when I saw a copy a few months back for $15, I figured, "Hey, why not give it another shot?"
Well, I did. It held my attention briefly, longer than the first time, but I got bored of it. There was nothing there to hold me.
I recently came into a copy of Project Gotham Racing 2. R4 may be dethroned. This game is amazing. Anyway, Tekken.
I love Tekken 2 and 3, Tekken Tag is alright, and like most long-time Tekken fans (at least, uh, the ones I speak to regularly), I have a distaste for Tekken 4. I gave it a fair shot when it came out, got good with Steve Fox, played it a lot, even. Got tired of it pretty quickly. I rented the PS2 port but had no desire to buy it. Bland.
Tekken is Tekken and VF is VF. I don't think Namco should try to make Tekken into VF, I think even trying that would be a mistake. What they should do is refine the formula that made Tekken 3/Tag so much fun, not trying to innovate in the wrong direction. VF4 has far more depth than any previous VF, but it reminds me a hell of a lot more of VF2 than it does of VF3, mostly because it plays really well. I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I didn't like VF3 at all. Tekken 5 should be about adding depth to the fighting system that was good to begin with, not about reworking it entirely.
Of course, that's not what they're going to do. Hey, it looks like Dennis Rodman's the main character. Who knows what's next?
I hope that Namco pulls a Winamp with the new Tekken.
(Tekken 2 + Tekken 3) + updated graphics/sound/gameplay - anything in Tekken 4 = Tekken 5. I can live with this.
I think I said all that in IRC earlier.Quote:

Namco wanted Sega to make Tekken 5.
Maybe that's why Sega turned down the whole merger deal.
I'm excited for the new Tekken, as I've always been a fan of the genre.
I'll admit I wasn't as much into T4 as I was the earlier games in the series due to there not being enough to set it apart from the other games, so I played it more casually.
Tekken 4 Jin w/hoodie = best looking 3D character in a fighter ever.
That and they don't need anyones help to run themselves into the ground.Quote:

I still think that Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter would be cool.Quote:

It was just a little sluggish. I enjoyed all of the Tekkens though, and I'll admit that I had the most fun with Composite Fighter Tag Battle, but I don't discount Tekken 4 for that reason. It's just a game that requires that there are other skilled players around you for the true essence of that game to be unlocked.
But yeah... please don't ask Namco to REHASH anything. You guys seriously, is what you want, after waiting some three years, is another of the same game? This is why companies just release re-releases now to make money, because people are so typical in that sense.
Regardless of whether one prefers T4 or TTT, one thing is for sure, Tekken could benefit from something totally new and different. Either way, everyone's not going to enjoy it, but it's better than rehash. Because the same people who say that they want that, will not be pleased either way.
I LOVE Tekken 4, but I love TTT even more.
Just don't take away all of Pauls improvements from T4, and I don't care what you take away from the rest of the game. I like having walled arenas though, and I think some of the backgrounds in T4 (like the laboratory or the Jungle) are some of the best in fighting game history.
until they get rid of those gay sparks i dont care either way.
Tekken 4 was ok, this news is pretty dull until I see some screens.
For Tekken 5, Namco should consider adding Ring Outs or similar hazards.
More all-new characters with previously unused styles and a new boss in the vein of Devil or Ogre sound nice. Neither Heihachi nor Kazuya should be a boss again.
In Tekken 4, Christie didn't really count as a new character- that game needed more than just Steve and Craig. If Christie and Eddy both return, each should have a few unique moves. A 2 player co-op Tekken Force III mode is a good idea for the arcade version.
New Tekken eh? While it did have a few bugs and kinks, Namco was headed in the right direction with Tekken 4. All they have to do is stop gimping characters that don't need to be screwed over like Lei Wulong and King and making the freaking Mishimas even more powerful.
Seriously, he needs that shit just to barely survive crazy ass Jins and Steves. His TTT rendition was pathetic and hopefully does not get toned down like that again.Quote:

I hope that's not "Young" Heihachi, I'm sick and tired of games going back to prequels for the time being.
If it is him I'm sure it's because he aquired the "devil gene", as was his plan in tekken 4, and made himself young and immortal or some shit.Quote:

Because these new character designs suck.
Designer 1 - We have Dennis Rodman in Dead or Alive, why not Wesley Snipes in Tekken 5?
Designer 2 - That sounds like a great idea, the kids love the Blade!
Designer 3 - That's the truth!
All together - Radical!
I believe this news.
Well, he would know about tired and uninspired character design.
IBTNAW.

The three new characters are Feng Wei (crazy chinese guy), Raven (Wesley Snipes) and I guess a relative of some sort of Jun's named Asuka Kazama.
Old jaded doesn't like my comic?! For shame!
Heh "Raven".
Jun in some capacity is good.
Maybe they will go the distance and put a fighting water cooler in there.
Because the Tekken series is known for its great character design.Quote:

Hell, it's been awhile for me, but doesn't Street Fighter have hit effects? I know old school SF Turbo and the like do, but I'm not sure about SF3 or CVS2 or any of the modern ones.
Yes, absolutely.Quote:

DOA relies too much on strings.
VF is a little better in this regard though, as Akira is known for his shoulder block thing (that Ryo Hazuki stole), Wolf has his giant swing, Jacky and Sarah have those big knees, etc. But as a whole I think that the Tekken "signature moves" add a lot of personality to the characters.

That was my first thought also, but since they are the most respected Tekken fansite, and have been doing this for years, I'll assume they mean that it is something new, and not the kind of buffering that makes Kings multi-throws a hell of a lot easier.Quote:

It's looking good so far, but thats nothing new for the series. I just want to know how it plays.
Thanks for the link Sl1p. This game is straight out fucking gorgeous. Hopefully this comes on the XBOX with 720p. I'm speechless. Holy Motherfuckin' Shit!

Please let it play like Tekken 3! PLEASE LET IT PLAY LIKE TEKKEN 3!!
Nice nice nice. I'm really digging alot of these backrounds too.
Rarrr, hot stuff. Xbox please.
Raven looks like a Ninja. Just what this series needs.:)
Jacky can handcuff lightning. I'd like to see a Tekken character do that.Quote:

Im thinking they freaked about the bandwith and took them all down. Luckily I snagged them all before they did that. The game is beautiful. It really is. The gameplay seems to be a lot faster, with a lot more movement, kind of like Dead or Alive meets Tekken. I say this because the fighting still looks very-Tekkenish (Please! Juggle me! I beg you!) but the movement is closer to Dead or Alive. The arenas are pretty impressive as well. Not as spectacular as say Dead or Alive Ultimate, but they have their own unique style to them, prarticularly a night time lily garden, complete with petals flying everywhere. Also impressive was an arena seemingly on fire with burning buildings that collapse into the arena and act as walls or destroyable objects.
Speaking of walls, it looks like the walls from Tekken 4 are back in force, but with the much bigger environments they may cease to be a problem.
Or hey, maybe Namco learned how to make them not so annoying. So far Tekken 5 is looking great. So heres another fighter to be excited about, even if you did hate Tekken 4.

From what i could pull, it looks like the series may get its first mid-air grab system. At least that's what in gathered in the King vs. Marduke(can't recall name) scene. In the video of couse.
from what i saw at the trailer, some of the levels look really fuckin nice. but over all, it seems to go in the same direction as Tekken 4. which im okay with. they erally should try something new though. hopefully i can get some time with it tomorrow though. it's not on the floor, but im sure they have it behind closed doors.
Shit, I will have to wait all day, to watch them. Hope they still there.
The screenshots of the game look awesome though. Have no problems with new character designs. If new Blade looking character as bad ass as Blade in the movies, game would only benefit from it :)
I just watched them, surprising.
It looks as if all of the characters are in there, save for a few, which is a departure from T4. Looks pretty damn good, as well.
Please, lord, tell me that you did not just say that. Pre-T4 Tekkens had some of the worst characters designs I've ever seen. With T4, things got better, but they still have a few suspect characters. For example, DOA may have "Rodman," but he doesn't look nearly as gay as this Blade crap.Quote:

If we can get a less stiff feeling style of gameplay, and more natural ability to create real combos, I'll be interested.
And here's where I really ask for it - Asuka is, indeed, a cutie. Interet in the game exists at this point simply because of her. *heh*
Anyone who says 'dail a combo' when referring to Tekken instantly invalidates their opinion.
Not even a scrub uses those.
Yeah Shidoshi... you missed the mark by quite a bit with that one...

Nina is right up there with Sarah Bryant as one of the most uninspired and uncompelling character designs ever.
She's got great grab combos though. I mean that in every perverted way possible too.
I like both the VF and Tekken games, and T5 looks to continue that trend nicely.
That Jun character reallly seems like the VF chick, Aki is it? The Aikido one.
Still has most of Jun's moves, but looks like it's combined with Aikido now. No gripes there.
I am a fan of midair grabs--the big wrestling chick in Tobal 2 had one and DOA characters had a few. This game looks good but I haven't played a Tekken seriously since TTT.
Nina was a direct ripoff of Sarah with a similar design and back story--brainwashed assassin blond which in turn was a ripoff of Cammy but in my view Sarah > Nina.

The only case I can think of is perhaps Baek's TTT 1st 3 hits of his 10 hit combo, which is 2 quick jabs then a forward kick, but that is used after launching someone into the air and because it's quick and allows for a longer juggle.
No one uses them, they are easy to duck/reverse or counter attack against.
There are people who have used these 'dail a combos' as you call them since Tekken. They are what most people call "shit at games".
MVS is right on this. People learn quickly not to use 10-strings against anyone worth a damn at the game. Every single 10-string has several weak spots. I can't speak for Tekken 1 since I've never played it, but it has been this way ever since Tekken 2 at least. In fact, 10-strings are probably more dangerous to use in Tekken 2 because of unchickenable reversals (not to mention Kazuya can get 90% Gut Punch combos off most 10-strings). You may not be able to punish the 10-strings as severely in the more recent games, but you have more tools at your disposal to do so (universal low parry, d/b+1 will stop more 10-strings, etc.).Quote:

I know this is going to sound a little odd, but bear with me. Penguins are evil. I cannnot, for the sake of time, go into why they are such fowl little beasts nor why school children run away at the mere mention of these oddly dressed demons, but suffice it to say a few Phoenix Smashers and Bread And Butter's will do them good.

Intro - Heihachi is dead? It looks like feathers are raining down from a hole in the celing of the Dojo level from T4. Apparently Jin turned into Devil/Angel Jin and flew away as Kazuya and Heihachi looked on. Then, a shitload of Jacks break into the dojo, and a bunch of them grab Heihachi and it's all MY HEAD A SPLODE and it blows up the entire dojo, but I'm pretty sure Kaz got outta there in time. Trailer ends with the words "Heihachi Mishima is dead". It also shows Raven (Blade) looking on at these events from atop a mountain. My guess is that Raveen is going to hunt those with the devil gene, specifically Jin.
Footage 1 - It looks like Raven employs an acrobatic kick based style (not like Eddie or Christie, just more jumpy than the average guy) that we haven't seen in the series before. Shidoshi, if you want to know how the combo system really works in Tekken, watch the part of footage 1 with Asuka. She does [Launcher, hop kick, 2 string, low sweep] which is exactly the type of combo that matters in Tekken. Not the 10 strings. Feng has a style that reminds me a little of Lau from VF combined with Law from Tekken. Didn't see much of him though.
Footage 2 - Phoenix Smasher into the burning rubble, FUCK YES! 3 hit juggle into a spinning leg grab with Marduk that slams the bitch into a wall, FUCK YES! Is that Lee looking dapper in a nice Tux? And if so, why does he have the exact same hairdo as that white haired girl from DOA?
Footage 3 - Goddamn Yoshi looks all badass in his big samurai armor. And Jack looks like the monster he should be.
Footage 4 - These are some stage flybys. The first is a nice looking rooftop background. I'd guess that it's in Australia where Jin learned his Karate style, but who knows. Next is a really cool looking moonlit field with the ruins of some type of temple in the background and thick grass/flowers on the ground. Could this be the hideout of Devil/Angel/Jin? Next is an underground pit/cave with a few treasure chests laid out around the edges of the arena. Could this be the hideout of the Manji group and Yoshi/Kunimitsu? Next we've got an arena on a mountain with a waterfall in the background and some aztec totems in the rear middle. Ogre was the aztec God of Fight, so maybe this has something to do with him. Next is a brief glimpse of what looks to be the courtyard of an old, expensive mansion. Think Victorian. The roses and the statue are a nice touch. Maybe it's Kazuyas house. Finally, the burning dojo stage. I'm gonna assume this is the same Dojo from T4, but it's all wrecked and firey because Jacks HEAD A SPLODE and killed Heihachi. Very cool looking level.
Footage 5 - Some closeups of the character models and, KUMA DANCES FOR HIS PENGUIN ONLOOKERS!!!!1 However, he looks like old-school Kuma with no sign of his T-shirt or sneakers. Which sucks.
Thanks for the impressions, I can't wait to see the trailer.
