It seems to be a new card game based on the Metal Gear. Nice graphics, but fuck that! I was so expecting a more traditional Metal Gear game like Ghost Babel.
It looks quite awesome, and should fit in well on the portable scene.
I did not expect the games to look that nice.
Yet another reason to get a PSP.
Fucking christ this next year is going to be one expensive year for handheld crap.
Can we say "Killer App?"
Good to see somebody out there sees fit to use this thing for more than just ports.
I would have preferred Metal Gear: Ecstacy.

An MGS game with card-based movement and action seems like a novel idea to me. I'd really like to play it, assuming it's anything like I'm imagining it.
That said, it's probably not. Shit, with this and all the DS announcements, the new Musashi, and so forth, this E3 is full of incredible shit. PSP and DS are both going to be eating significant chunks of my cash on launch.

Weird, For the first half of that trailer, it looked like a standard non-card flipping Metal Gear game, but by the second half the cards were flying.. maybe the first half was just a cutscene...

It was at the show, but not playable at all. Looked good though.
I didn't like MGS or MGS 2, but this looks groovy. A change in pace from the norm will be great, if that ends up being the case.

God, I love the art on those cards, and the in-game 2D character profiles look amazing.
I'm pretty interested in this, it's beautiful. If it's a good game, sales +1, and I'm almost sure it will be.
The story on the official website is confusing...
Anyway, the fact this game is made by practically the same team that did Ghost Babel should be enough reason for purchase as it is, that game was amazing.
Shame the multiplayer had to be scrapped.

There's a pair of marionettes hijacking a plane and the main character isn't even the real Solid Snake at all, only someone who has Snake's persona (funny how they keep reducing Solid Snake's presence in each subsequent Metal Gear game).
There's a series of old-school/non-Metal Gear cards , known as the Chronicle pack, which covers the MSX games (plus Ghost Babel), Snatcher, Policenauts and ZoE (as well as Boktai, but I'm not too sure). It covers a variety of characters, although some of their choices seems rather questionable (Mika over Randam and Jaime, Fire Trooper and Machine Gun Kid over Schneider and so on).
Ever timely :) And I just hate the darkened areas in stealth games, where there is next to no light to go on, as it's just a bit too hard for me personally to see what's going on. Now when there is a decent level of light, that isn't a problem. EvilMog, I despised card systems too, then I played Baten Kaitos, and was able to tolerate them. I don't hate MGS1 (I hate MGS2) but I always thought the story started off fantastic and stayed strong, but had a lot of hokey, dumb crap. "Press the Action Button, Snake," "Hold the controller up to your arm," and "look at the back of the case."
Those were all dumb, 4th wall breaking things that took me right out of the story and made me shake my head. If you're gonna make something funny and wacky, do it. If you want to tell a serious, immersive story, do that, but leave all the weird and stupid shit out.
In the first game, that didn't bother me too much... I don't know why that is that it didn't get to me there, but in the Twin Snakes, it really irritated me. Yeah, I've never understood the 4th wall complaint. I'm not saying it's valid, I'm just saying that there was never a point in time to me, where I was so deeply immersed in the game that I didn't feel like I was playing the game, for the sole sake of the fact that I was holding a controller. I always felt like I was playing a game that felt like a movie.
None of that stuff ever bothered me at all, and I always found it kind of funny and endearing. Should I have been bothered by it? :P
Apparently if it's not 100% serious all the way through, it's not worth playing. I don't know, I liked the memory card comments, they were funny. Especially hearing Psycho Mantis say "Suikoden." I still don't like a lot of stuff they stuck in in the Twin Snakes, though... but a lot of those are gameplay complaints. I can understand the complaints, Mzo. But I'll never understand DiffX completely writing off a brilliant game, and then acting like there's something wrong with the *rest* of the world for not doing the same. Generally, in that position, I just say, 'It's not for me.'
I think that for all of the greatness of MGS3, I found the Cobras to be 100% hokey. I had to learn to like them in spite of themselves. For one, they all exploded like Power Rangers monsters, while screaming their name or battle emotion or whatever. The Pain should have never existed. I'll never stop being obsessed with finding out whether or not The End was inspired by that black bug-eyed bitch who shows up on talk shows every couple of years. And they tried *way* too hard to shit on Raiden.
There were a few 4th wall breaking gags or tutorials within the game as well, but it really does look like they must have received complaints, or realized that it was way too much, and they almost avoided it altogether when the story picked up.
Anyway, I just fear that taking Metal Gear too seriously is the biggest disservice one can do to himself. After all, the whole deal has its roots in some shoddy Kurt Russell movie. They had literally *every* opportunity to make our eyes bleed, and they didn't.
Like I said, I really enjoyed the first game, but it was more for its gameplay than the story, which really wasn't all that great. It was just fun to play, like taking down that Hind D or shooting Liquid with thousands of bullets from the back of the jeep. Fun as hell, but the story is dumb, and I think it's weird that everyone hails it as one of the greatest stories in a video game.
MGS2 was just terrible, and 3 I haven't played yet. I'm scared of it. Maybe I'll pop it in this weekend.
I was irritated that the Cobras had no backstory at all whatsoever to make them anything more than a name/emotion that meant very little, heh. Also, hah, I know that lady you're talking about, she was on that Guinness Book of World Records show with a bunch of other people who could do that.
