Just got it, wanted to point this out:
NLOCKS
- By playing on a Battlefield 2â„¢: Special Forces map, you will gain the priviledge
of being able to unlock some of the Battlefield 2â„¢: Special Forces weapons for use
in regular BF2 maps. These unlocks are considered to be tier 2 unlocks, where as
the original unlocks are considered to be tier 1. You must first have unlocked
the tier 1 weapon for a particular kit before you can access and unlock the tier 2
weapon. As an example, if you must unlock the G3A3 for the assault kit before you
can unlock the F2000 for the assault kit.

Got it. Only played 4 or so maps. Servers are very unstable at the moment. The game has a different feel from normal BF2. Things are faster and youll end up dying ALOT when things get hectic due to the smaller maps. The learning curve seems alot higher than BF2. Its a more action packed close quarters combat BF2. Vehicles arent as dominate.
Theres a few new weapons - not a whole lot more. The MEC army has i think only one new weapon (an RPG). You can use these weapons in normal BF2 - including flashbangs - which might mess up a couple of the old maps. The maps i played were good fun except for the raid on the aircraft carrier, which ran at like 5 fps for me, but i have an older 3d card. The tear gas and gas mask combo are totally badass. Launch a tear gas nade into a room while you equip your gas mask and watch the whole room run like mad in circles as you lay waste to them.
The vehicles are pretty much identicle. Cept for the ATV and jet skis - which go so fast that its pretty funny when you see one zip by. Theres also a 5 man Tank - not an APC. The choppers are pretty much identicle but the Hind sure does look badass.
I only got to spend about 5 minutes on a night map and it seemed like alot of fun. The darkness isnt as bad as i originally expected. The SF weapons being brought over to normal BF2 might cause a pretty big stir in the community. It forces alot of people to buy the expansion to keep up with those that have an advantage with the SF weapons (flashbangs and such). I heard that on some maps even the grapple hooks will be usable on the old BF2 maps for SF owners. I need alot more play time on this but ide say go out and pick it up. Its only 30 bucks.

Though some will complain it's a cash grab, I like the idea of having the weapoons acessible in the normal game. Not only does it add value to the pack, but it adds new strategy with the flashbangs and the like. IF I pay for the add on I should be able to access its features - if you choose not to fine - but don't complain that you don't have the guns you didn't pay for - want them that bad then take them from the guys corpse. [that was in general to the community Destro, not you in case I was being confusing!]

I got it as well and I feel kinda mixed about it. My main gripe is a couple maps could have been thought out waaaay better. Surge is the worst one for me. I really really hate that map. It feels like a bland Road to Rome map, not something for BF2.
I love the night vision and the slower pace in general of the expansion. Vehicles have taken a back seat to squad-based play. Now if only people would quit messing around and get back into joining squads, we map have something.
I also went into the original BF2 with my newly aquired Spec Ops gun as well. I like the fact EA did that and I don't see that being a horrible balance issue like i thought originally. The community will cry , then buy the expansion.
I will say that if you enjoy the on-foot fighting of BF2, then go for this expansion. If you're more into the vehicle side of things, stay far far away from it. I personally can see myself playing both and enjoying both.

Spent more time on a night map. wow the bf gameplay youre used to completely changes here. You have to be cautious of literally every corner you turn. Cool stuff.

I just bought the expansion last night, and haven't played BF2 in months. I might play a little tonight if I'm around.

I am pleasantly surprised that Gamespot managed to put up the Internet's first review of BF2: SF before going on break for the Thanksgiving holiday:

Technical issues aside, most of the impressions so far seem to be positive, so I may just go ahead and pick this up since I have a giftcard that can cover about 90% of the cost. I just pray that none of these technical issues affect me and that EA gets going on fixing the increased lag/load times.

Ya good luck with that EA fixing stuff thing.

I picked this expansion up two days ago for $2 (thanks to a sale and Target gift card) and so far I'm enjoying the new weapons/maps/vehicles and the general change of pace in the gameplay. Overhead spam is practically non-existent, and a lot of the new weapons are significant upgrades to their pre-existing peers. I'm especially pleased with the two new SCAR gun models and the grappling hook/zip-line, as they actually got me more interested in playing the Spec Ops and Assault kits. ATVs finally give lone wolf players a way of moving around the map without having to worry about battling armor and aircrafts—they’re fast enough to get past pretty much all armor unscathed and their small size lets them squeeze into places that bigger vehicles can’t go. Anyone looking for more BF 2 content with a slightly different playstyle should check it out.
Additionally, if anyone is still having trouble with long loads and frame-rate issues in-game you might want to check out these two system optimization/tweak guides. The second link in particular has some handy advice that greatly reduced my load times and cut down on a lot of the choppiness that I’ve been experiencing in Special Forces (after making some changes it now runs just as smooth as regular BF 2).

So does anyone know of some quality Special Forces servers?

Hey, did EA ever fix that bug that randomly prevents a PC from being able to install the game?
