Does anyone know how to unlock the secondary weapons? I'm at Lance Corporal looking to be a Corporal and I still don't have any weapons unlocked.
Do you have to get a medal from every class perhaps?

Well, at least EA is listening to what the fans want. All those changes should make the game almost perfect.
I wonder if they are going to stop transport copters from capping flags? I wonder if that is what they mean in the below sentence.

Go to that site, go to whatever mirror is working, then look at the ranks tab on top. It will tell you whats required.
I saw your name up near the top of the leaderboard for a few rounds during the later parts of the evening (around 4:00 AM EST). The next time we play together I’ll ask our squad leader to send out an invite so you can join our squad.Quote:

If you’re using the WSAD setup for movement, the V button is a nice choice for activating Ventrilo’s voice capture. Just make sure to reverse your BF 2 controls so B is squad talk and V is commander talk, that way there won’t be an annoying echo when you’re voice is being simulcast on Vent and BF 2, and the commander won’t have to listen to your yapping as long as you’re not the squad leader. That setup seems to work well for me.Quote:

Supposedly, they’re trying to make it where flag captures can only occur while the player is on foot or in a vehicle.Quote:

Yep, BF 2 is definitely different from any other FPS I've played in terms of the overall feel of infantry combat. This is my first experience with the series, and at the start I struggled to maintain a 1:2 kill/death ratio, but after about twenty hours of play I have no trouble keeping at least a 1:1 ratio, and I'm also gaining experience points at a much faster rate. Just keep at it slugger; eventually you'll start seeing some marked improvement in your shooting skills.Quote:

Ventrilo will work regardless of what your key settings are in BF 2, it's just that your squad mates will hear a horribly annoying echo if your squad talk and Ventrilo talk buttons are identical (of course, this is assuming that those squad members are also on Ventrilo).Quote:

Speaking of Ventrilo, do you have the latest version installed (v2.30)? That might be the reason why you were having so much trouble with the server last night.
Anyway, I’m heading online now and will be available most of the night, minus a brief meal break.
I get disconnected from every server ever.
I hate this game. :(
I had to download the latest version to even connect to your server, so ya, i have it. And i've actually got most of the basic badges (i don need no stinking badges...sorry, had to). I just dont have things that require a certain amout of kills, or any commander ones because i've never been a CO. and i'll be online soon.
Anyone have any impressions with an unlocked weapon that is not the G3Compact, L85 nor G3?
Got the 1st, considering the 2nd or 3rd but curious to see how the others are.

Yeah, for real! Spec Ops is my primary class I play and it kinda sucks that even though I am busting my ass to keep UAV, Scan and Artillery down, I get nothing for it. It's rewarding though when you know that you were a big help for your team and was a big reason for the win.Quote:

To the delight of statwhores everywhere, www.gamedrome.com's stat-sigs are finally back online. Hooray.
Finally, in contrast to the first four weeknights, I might stick around to see some of the west-coast BF 2 players for Friday/Saturday night.

I do still play but not as much as I'd like. My computer needs upgrading to run this properly and I dont have the cash to do it or the patience to play for very long without the upgrades.
One of the things that bugs me is after I load a map it takes twice as long to verify. I've heard this is due to my hard drive being really slow, or full perhaps, so I'm curious if I were to make a partition and install BF2 on it would that increase the speed of verification?
I'm pretty sure it's memory. I only have 512 and it takes about 3-4 minutes (total) for a map to load for me. People with 1-2 gigs say it takes 30 seconds total (maybe someone else can back that statement up).

#1 When will the next patch (1.03) be finished for release?
We're working hard on finishing up the last few fixes of the 1.03 patch and getting it through testing for release. There are a lot of great fixes and we want to make sure its don'e right. That said, it will be released...when it's done.
#2 Will there be fixes to the collision system in the engine? What I mean are those annoying deaths when for example a supply crate slides downhill and you're right below it or you're behind a tank and it moves a thousandth of an inch backward at a speed of few inches per hour and you die. There have also been instances when a vehicle sort of clips inside a fence(or any other thin non-destructible obstacle) and is destroyed.
We've made some changes in the collision system to prevent these kind of problems. A lot of the problem objects that have caused vehicles to instantly explode have been worked on and you can now get pushed around by slow vehicles without dying so easily. This should prevent a lot of the unintentional TKing that we all hate also makes it a bit more stable to stand on top of slow-moving vehicles... but I'll stop there.
#3 Hello. Kinda related to #5 actually, I was wondering.. The game is brilliant and so realistic in many ways.. but theres some not so realistic stuff too.. If your in a huge tank and moving at full speed, into a thin fence or gate.. You get hurt, Instead of being able to smash right through, Would be so much more realistic if that was possible, Even into walls and stuff. Also I noticed, you cant get in any buildings where theres door.
This is mostly due to the game having to run over a network. We have a limit on the number of destroyable objects we can have in the world. As they all have to by synched to the other clients, along with the other networking data. So here we all think it would be really great to have lots and lots of destroyable things, but ultimately we have to concentrate on the main things that need networking, like soldiers and vehicles . . .
I guess thats all i have on that question . .
#4 Will there be something done to rid the game of the so called bunnyhopping. As people being able to go prone, jump, prone, jump hasn't the slightest bit of realism in it.Also the whole tk/punish system really needs a overhaul as too many times people get punished/kicked from servers because of other peoples stupidity ie walking out in front of armour/transport etc which no doubt results in a punish.
TK wise we have made some changes that should reduce the number of accidental TKs. Such as the vehicle collison system that was mentioned earlier. 'Dolphin Diving' does look pretty wierd, i agree, we are keeping an eye on this issue and may address it in an upcoming patch
#7 the editor is rather buggy will you be releasing patches for it and what will they improve on
The Editor is still in the Beta phase, so a few issues are to be expected. The editor is currently being worked on by staff dedicated to that task at DICE Canada. They will release updates as they feel appropriate. However here in Stockholm, i dont have a date for a potential final version release.
#8 Well i don't know if it was discussed here, but i'd like to ask why involve jet aircraft in this game... it makes it awfully unbalanced, as it is nearly impossible to hit it from the ground.
We've actually tweaked the AA missile behavior in the upcoming patch. The Stingers/IGLA and various AA vehicles should be more effective.
#9 Have you any thoughts of adding the abillity to auto-join a server when it gets a free slot?
I'd really like to see that feature added as well.
#12 Will the upcoming patch fix the game browser?
Actually yes we've made some improvements to the browser in the patch. We fixed some performance problems and made some changes that make server status display more accurate.
#13 Have any thought been given to remove the pointloss resulting when switching sides. I have a hard time figuring out why exactly you need punishment for doing that?
You loose points when you switch teams because you Suicide in order to join the other team.
#14 In the upcoming patch, is the bug where sometimes the red warning marker is not displayed above claymore mines fixed?
Those are enemy claymores!!! []
#16 what are the main fixes in this patch?
I think one of the more popular ones will be that players have to get out of a Blackhawk to capture a flag. Now in a full Blackhawk only the pilot counts in the flag capture raduis.
#20 You have talked about that the "hit-system" has been imrpoved in the next patch, will therefor "wing sufring" (hitchride with a airplane) be possible?
'Wingwalking', as we call it in the office, is now much easier. It was one of the BF1942 things we really wanted to get into BF2. Its good fun to be stood on an the back of an F35.
#21 does the spec ops could gain xp when he destroy bridges ?
We've added support points to destroying the enemy commander toys, but not bridges.
#24 Does the 1.03 patch finally let user add their server favorites in the BF2 serversearch, and/or will there be better ASE support (like password protected servers)
We've added a panel to the server browser where you can add favorite servers and see the history of servers you have played on.
#25 Will there be improvements to armored vehicels having trouble driving up a hill road?
yes
#26 Will you be able to see the names of players in the same vehicle in the new patch?
yes
#28 Will the new patch fix the problem concerning AA-missiles skipping enemy targets and instead head for a random target, even though allready locked on to a heatsource?
The AA-missiles have been improved to better hit their target
#29 In reply to 'Wingwalking'. I thought it was the meaning of BF2 the be realistic as possible... Wing walking on a F35 (while in the air I think), isnt really realistic ;x
It's not possible to go really fast and have the player stick in place. It's simply possible to stand on the moving vehicle now. This goes for tanks also, where you would previously have some trouble standing on a moving one, now its much easier to stay on it.
#32 will there be any additional information displayed on the 3d map?
Yes, supply drops will be on the 3d-map in the patch
#33 How have you prevented the point-farming?
We've added a limit to the amount of supply points you can get from the same person in a given amount of time. It won't eliminate this from happening, but it will be less effective.
#35 In the new patch, can a person chance nickname, or maybe just clan tag! ?
You will ba able to add a 6 character prefix
#36 Are the anti-tank bazookas gonna be improved, it's quite hard to shoot tank 4times so that he can exit the tank and kill you with m4
If you make direct hits to the rear or top of the tank, it will be just about toast in 2 hits.
#41 Will there still be an issue with lots of engineers being able to repair blackhawk (and other helos) in flight ? At the moment a fully loaded blackhawk is like a flying tank
The effectiveness of the wrench on helicopters has been reduced a little
#42 You mentioned earlier players will have to leave the blackhawk to get flag capture, will this apply to other helicopters as well ?
This will apply to all vehicles
#48 UGH?! get out of all vehicles to capture flag, sounds like an awful idea to me. Drive tank to flag, get out to get flag and watch enemy jump in and blow you away!
No it's just the passengers that have to get out. One person can stay in the vehicle and still capture the flag.
#50 a question of interesst to me is, if u have thought about new possibilty's for "pointfarming" with giving specops point for destroying commander-toys? Because, if there is also a engineer of the enemy-team he can repair it, and the specop destroyes it nd so on...
It applies to the strategic objects as well
#51 Is there diffrent damagezones on aircrafts and heli's as well?
Nope, just the tanks
#54 Are the glasses in bf2 vehiles bullet proof or do some of the bullets actually get thru the glass and hit the driver/passenger if you shoot much enough?
Using the M95 you can shoot through vehicle glass
#55 does the distence from the flag effect the spped at which you can cap it
no
#56 Have u had any thoughts about releasing the things u have fixed, and make one more patch for the things that arent done?
Sadly it doesnt work that way. Once we finish adding in the new things and fixes of current issues for the patch, we then move on to fixing the new bugs that have crept into the game. It's usually this beta period that takes quite a lot of time. So releasing lots of small patches doesnt really make much difference, as we still have the beta time and QA testing to go through.
#58 why cant you copy and paste an ip into the game? It would make joining friends ALOT easier!
it's a good idea and we'll add it to the next patch wishlist
#61 do you think it is real to expect players to play 20000 hours for a war
The original targets for the unlocks / awards were based on actual BF1942 data. Crazy though it might sound, there are people out there with those kinds of numbers. However we have tweaked the values a little, so you should be able to see a difference in the new patch.
#62 Hi! Just wanna tell you that i love how the maps are designed. Are you gonna add a new map in the next patch or soon?
I bet a lot of you know already, but you should prepare to return to a certain South Pacific island in the future...
All of that sounds great, thanks for the post.
Definately changes for the better, it will be good to see no more Black Hawk Whoring and better ability to shoot down Jets.
Wake Island should be fun.
Good news to see those fixes, they sure are taking their sweet time with it though. Looks like we'll see a new map too. Awesome.
If anyone down to play tonight, shoot me a PM or get on the BSD Venter server around 930 Pacific.

The noob tube is an awesome weapon. Check my stats.
Assault Rifles 16:19:47 Kills:744 Deaths: 670 1.11 16.85%
Grenade Launcher Attachment 14:57:01 Kills:1,013 Deaths 696 1.46 62.78%
You can really rack up kills using it to take down jeeps and buggies. I was next to a supply crate one time, and actually took down an APC trying to cap a flag. Shooting it into the roof of a Black Hawk will garner 2 or 3 kills (on a full bird).
The grenade launcher is annoying as hell. Cheap as well. I'd like to see them removed and see the motars come back.
Dammit I was hoping to see patch released when I came in here..
Good stats, though I don't think it's a noob tube as others call it. I ran into some cunt who think likes that last night. He was upset I killed him with it and went on a rant for 3 minutes. The next map was Mashtuur, I saw him proning underneath the stairs of the Mosque about 300 yards away and put it right on his face.Quote:

Grenade Launcher Attachment 24:02:44 964 729 1.32 63.28%
My best is still the tank:
Armor Time: 47:26:24 Kills: 3,316 Deaths:594 Ratio 5.58 Road Kills:278
The belly is the best place to shoot it, in between the 2 door gunners. I drove to the tank spawn as a Mec on Mashtuur, only to see a blackhawk rolling in. Without the flag, there was no PKM and no tank. I chilled against the wall, they hovered overhead and 3 successive grenades killed 3-2-1 and blew the thing up.Quote:

Finally, here is something that's very helpful. Some dude figured out how much damage anti-tank rockets do to a tank in each spot. The higher numbers (such as 9-10) mean that it does 9-10 damage out of 20 (20 being the full tank health). So, obviously 2 rockets in a 10 place, 3 in a 9, 4 in a 5, etc.
I tried it out last night, shooting at tank treads, and, true enough, it drops them in 2 shots.
Hence, if you are slugging it out in a tank, the best spot is to be turned so that the side of the tank and the top of the turret face the target, giving them only a minimal 10 shot at your bottem tread.

Battlefield 2 1.03 Update Enters Final QA Pass
That's right, troops. Barring any last minute issues, the 1.03 Update is only a few days from release now. We thought this occasion warranted a post covering the major features and fixes coming in 1.03, so settle back and enjoy.
Wake Island 2007
That's right, the 1.03 update bundles the first Official map release from EA and DICE. In this case the map is a modern-era update of one of the most popular maps from Battlefield 1942 -- Wake Island. The People's Liberation Army has invaded Wake to threaten American supply lines. In response the US Marine Corps has been dispatched to reclaim the island.
The new Wake Island map comes to you free of charge thanks to Fileplanet’s new Battlefield 2 Channel. Visit it at http://www.fileplanet.com/battlefield2.shtml.
New Features
Stats compare - view the extended stats details for any other player in your BFHQ simply by double-clicking on their name on the leader board or using the new search feature
Server Favorites and History - find your favorite servers that much easier. No more searching for them through the main server list
Nickname Prefix - Add and change your clan tag to your account name at will. No more creating alternate account names to cover the changes in your competitive lifestyle
Supply Drop Icons - Supply drops now appear on the main map and within the 3D Map. Find that elusive supply drop much, much quicker
Points for Destroying Command Objects - players now receive points for destroying the commander's toys. Special Forces players rejoice
Server Reserved Slots - Server Operators can now set aside slots for their admins to join a full server at any time
Vehicle Passengers - the names of players in a vehicle with you are now displayed when you enter or change seats
Countermeasures - a reload bar has been added for vehicle countermeasures. You'll always know now when you can set off that next flare
Tweaks
Point Farming changes - DICE has implemented functionality that makes it significantly harder to point farm on Ranked Servers
Mod Support - Mods now work properly with the Dedicated Server! Additionally, the game will automatically switch mods when joining a server that is running a mod you have installed but do not have activated
Map tweaks - Spawn menu map and Commander maps now scale based on the size of the level being played (16, 32 or 64 players). Mini-map also scales automatically based on the vehicle type you are using (manual changes to zoom levels are remembered as well)
Commander scoring - No more TKs from Artillery
Vehicle tweaks - No more accidental kills from bumping a friend with your tank (try to avoid hitting him at speed though) and no more struggling uphill in an APC. Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions
Auto Team Balance tweaks - Commanders and Squad Leaders now immune to team switch
Anti-Air Missiles - These are now much more effective against fast-movers
…and, of course, more. Look for the patch soon.
Today would be nicer.

Here's a 1.03 patch review by a beta-tester:
The prevailing rumor right now is that the patch will be available on Monday.Quote:
BF2.se has together with BF2combat & BF2rankedserver been able to beta-test the new Battlefield 2 patch, version 1.03.
What can we expect of the patch then? Is it worth the long time we waited for it and how do you type in your prefix?
This and many other things is what I am going to try to give you answers to in my article that I wrote after playing Battlefield 2, v. 1.03.
Wake 2007
As soon as I jumped into the map the nostalgia smacked me right in the face. I can feel the warm feeling of all wars I played on it in 1942. This is the map that changed my way of thinking about 1942 and was one of my favourite map both in clan wars and that short public game between lessons in school, this is the map that made me the player I am today.
Wake have been resting for 64 years to once again be brought to life, this time with the power of today’s new weapons. But Wake 2007 is the same as it was 1942 with the small difference that instead of the destroyer we got a small island as a spawn point for USA mounted with artillery. The ship is resting where it should with a lot of planes and helicopters just waiting to attack to shores of Wake.
New in 1.03
1.03 contains a lot of new fixes and adjustments. We are given new sounds ( T98, MEC & China Jeep and new canon sound for the tanks. ), point-farming have been eliminated ( you can’t stand and heal your friend forever etc.. ) and you can’t repair an helicopter as fast as you could before.
The physics have been changed on the vehicles to make it harder to kill soldiers by running them over in 1km/h. Other bugs have been fixed as the Blackhawk-bug, no more weak spots there. Or as DICE calls it: “Set some wheels on jets and helicopters to stronger armour to prevent them from being destroyed instantly by AT missiles.”
The patch is big, 175 mb, and it contains a lot of fixes. You now must jump out of the APC to help you comrades to take a flag, this has been the centre of a lot of discussion on the BF2-forums around if it is a good thing or not.
The fix I love the most is that the TV-guided missiles finally response to my clicks and has a 2-click function. The first clicks mark the victim and the second click fires the missile. If you want to change the target just click on another space and the cross moves there. Your fire with a double-click and after it been deployed you can navigate it easy by clicking and you get the feeling of being in control of the missile.
The earlier messy BFHQ also had a remake and the compare-stats-function seem to be a fun addition.
You gain ranks much easier now then before so quite a lot of people are going to go up in rank the first time they play 1.03.
There is also an Account Login Welcome Screen that will contain messages from EA from time to time.
Auto-team balance have also gotten a big remake and seemed to work fine to me. But this will always be a function that always can be tweaked a little more.
The commander will now get it a little easier when TK-punish for artillery are removed and the soldiers can now see where the commander drops his crates on our mini-map.
Prefix, the long waited prefix is finally here! And it works very easy. Every time you login to BF2 you have the chance to add a new prefix to your nick and it won’t affect your stats in anyway. Your prefix will not be stored and you can change it every time you login.
Mods
Modsupport have finally been added to the menu. BF2 will automatically activate the mod witch server you join and you can now filter after different mods in the in game-browser. Modders are probably be glad about that you now can share BF2 libraries easier also.
Serverfixes
Admins can now reserve slots on it’s server with an easy command. You then add the serveradmins in the serverconfig by typing their accountnames. There have also been some small fixes as Linux serves crashing when trying to contact stat servers.
Conclusion
BF2 v.1.03 has been long waited for, and I think you will love it, because soon it is here and you can notice all the changes yourself! There have been a lot of small fixes to improve the game play beside the ones I have mentioned.
To finish of this I want to thank EA and their trusted-partner-program that made it possible to try the new patch and of course Planet combat & BF2rankedservers!
// Gustav Halling ”a.k.a” cmd
Oh i'm liking the sound of that tv guided missle fix. Not to mention the rest of it.
I hope that rumor about gaining ranks faster is true. The amount of time needed to unlock even your second gun is flat out rediculous. Patch sounds good, can't wait.

Now everyone and their brother is going to be walking around with G3s and DAOs. Also cuts short the excitement of unlocking - right now it takes months of play time at LEAST to get all the guns, there goes some replayability.
The way it stands now, 90% of the people who have the game will never be able to see 2 or more unlockables unless we quit working and play nothing but this game all day. That incredibly lame. I mean I play the game alot, and have been playing since release day, and im still not even half way done to unlocking the 2nd weapon. Thats stupid. The unlockable guns aren't all that much better anyways, they are just different. An alternative.
I dont see how altering the ranking system would hurt the replay value cause I don't know of any other online FPS games that allow unlockable weapons over time. Especially online FPS games that ive been playing for years. Thats years of replay there. If those games got away with it, why wouldn't BF2? All im saying is to make the unlockables a little more reasonable.

Nope, nix that. Im always in a squad - usually with people I know, and 80% of the time we get number 1 squad. Maybe cause a couple of the games I played were on unranked servers. I donno.

Patch tommorow sometime. Possibly (though i doubt it, i'm not that lucky) as early as midnight.
I don't mind the ranks being so hard to get .. but some of those ribbons and badge requirements are ridiculous. (I think Expert Ground Defense requires 200 hours of being in ground defense. LOL)

It looks like the terrible TK punish system is still intact. I was hoping that they would treat claymore and landmine TKs the same as artillery TKs, but it seems that this issue has been ignored, so engineers and snipers shall continue to lose large amounts of points because of other players' stupidity.Quote:

Patch v1.03
========================================================================
NEW FEATURES
- Wake Island Map
Included a remade version of this popular BF1942 map.
Battlefield 2 version includes a 64 player layout and is
configured for multiplayer only.
- Server Favorites / History
There is a new tab in the MULTIPLAYER menu that holds a list of
the last 20 internet servers you have connected to, plus a list
of servers you have selected as favorites.
* Added a button to the other multiplayer tabs that adds the
currently highlighted server to your favorites list.
* Added buttons in the in-game server info menu (press TAB to
access) that will add or remove the server you are currently
playing on to / from your favorites list.
- Account Login Welcome Screen
After you login to an online account, a message appears that
contains BF2 news and information which updates periodically.
- Stat Compare
By clicking the COMPARE button in BFHQ, you can search for another
players name and load their current stats into BFHQ. Using the
arrow buttons next to the name in the top-left corner of the menu,
you can toggle between your stats and their stats.
You can also load a player's stats by double-clicking on their
name in any leaderboard.
- Nickname Prefix
You can add a 6-character prefix (such as a clan tag) to your
account nickname which will be displayed in-game next to your
nametag in the score menu, in game messages, and above your player
in the game world.
* This prefix does not change your account name or statistic
information (e.g. the prefix does not appear next to your name
on the leaderboards).
* You can change this prefix at any time at the account login
menu.
- Server Reserved Slots
You can define a list of player nicknames that will act as a
"reservation list" for your server.
* The list is located in mods\bf2\settings\ReservedSlots.con
* You can add player names to the list by editing the file and
adding the following text for each player :
reservedSlots.addNick
where is the player's registered account name,
not including a nickname prefix (see above).
* You can define the number of slots to set aside for reserved
players in the dedicated server launcher, or with the setting
sv.numReservedSlots in your serverSettings.con file.
* The number of players on the list and the number of reserved
slots does not necessarily have to be the same.
- Mod Support
There are several new changes that improve support for mods.
* When connecting to a server that is running a mod that you have
installed but not activated, it will be automatically activated
and you will load into the server.
* Added a filter on the server browser for servers running the
currently activated mod.
* Fixed dedicated server launcher to properly handle launching mods.
* Improved support for mods sharing archives with bf2
- Improvements to in-game HUD / Map
* The viewable area of the spawn menu / commander map is now scaled
based on the out-of-bounds area so that only the playable area
takes up the majority of viewable map space.
* The names of CPs are now displayed on the spawn menu / commander
map and minimap
* The minimap zoom level now changes dynamically depending on the
type of vehicle you are in. If you zoom in or out manually, that
zoom level is remembered for that vehicle type next time you use
it.
* The names of players in your vehicle are displayed in the HUD
when someone enters the vehicle or switches positions.
* There is a new element in vehicle HUDs that displays the reload
time for countermeasures (smoke and flares).
* Flags for each team are now displayed below their ticket count
on the minimap to make it easier to tell what team you are assigned to.
GAMEPLAY CHANGES
- Many criteria for ranks and awards have changed. If you are immediately
eligible for a new promotion, unlock, badge, award, or ribbon, it will
be awarded the next time you receive points on a ranked server.
- Only 1 player in a vehicle will get credit for or speed up capturing
a flag at a CP. The other passengers must exit the vehicle to increase
the speed of capture or receive capture score.
- Commanders no longer accrue a TK when artillery hits
teammates.
- The commander's supply drop now has an icon on the minimap and a 3D-
map icon in the world.
- Auto team balance no longer moves players to the other team if they
are a team commander or a squad leader.
- The wrench repair rate on helicopters has been decreased.
- You now receive 1 support point for destroying an enemy commander's
artillery, UAV or Radar station.
- If you have received a point for healing, repairing, or resupplying
a teammate, you will not receive another point from them for the same
action for a set period of time.
- Singleplayer enemies use the knife more effectively.
- New engine sounds for the T98 tank.
- New engine sounds for the China/MEC light jeep.
- New cannon sounds on APCs.
BUG FIXES
- Fixed physics of vehicles against soldiers so that soldiers are not
killed so easily by moving vehicles.
- Fixed a physics issue that can cause you to be stuck when falling into
shallow water
- Fixed an issue with soldier armor when spawning on a squad leader in a
vehicle
- Fixed some objects that caused vehicles to take massive collision damage
- Fixed erroneous message stating that you punished a TK when auto-
punish is OFF on the server.
- When a vehicle explodes due to external forces, the driver is no longer
mis-credited for the kills.
- Added turret movement sounds to several vehicles.
- Fixed an issue that caused crosshairs to stay on the screen when
switching camera views.
- Fixed an issue that caused the time limit status of the server not to be
sent to clients when it is changed by the server.
- Fixed server setting sv.allowExternalViews. Setting this to 0 will
disallow external views.
- Added setting for interfaceIP to the server launcher
- Changed automatic TK banning to ban by cd-key instead of IP address
- Improved the stability of secondary position turrets to reduce jerkiness
during movement.
- Fixed spawning on squad leaders to prevent players from spawning where
they should not.

when using it.
- Passwords entered to join password protected servers are now cleared
after use.
- Improved PLAY NOW functionality.
- Fixed some memory usage issues in the front end.
- Fixed an issue allowing color changes in player name text.
- When you click on a server in the server browser, the information
from that server is updated to be more accurate.
- Fixed a crash in the Ranked Linux server when communication with stats
back-end ceased.
- Improved the behavior of AA missiles when locked on an enemy.
- Fixed an issue where parachuting soldiers could not be healed.
- Added the server port to the SERVER INFO tab.
- Removed the SERVER INFO tab when playing singleplayer
- Fixed an issue causing some soldier & vehicle control keys to be used
for in-game menus.
- Added new soldier artwork in BFHQ
- Added name of video director to credits
The big eye opener to me was that you can shoot a helicopter in its wheels and it's a one shot kill!
I'll have to try it out before I patch.
Ok the patch is out, but regular downloads are super slow and I suck at finding torrents.
I'm getting about 115 KB/s at Filefront.com, but even when it finishes downloading I probably won't have too much time to try out the new patch until this weekend because of a busy week at work and school.Quote:

Wake was ok, from a Marine stand point at least. I got promoted as soon as I got a point. Seems I was eligible thanks to the updated rankings. So now I'm thinking about what to unlock, as my first was the Medic.
My god EA sucks so bad. Massive messed up CD Key errors with this patch. Supossedly a hot fix is already in the works. For me personally, my game runs like absolute ass online. This was fixed previously by opening certain ports on my router and disabling all firewalls. Of course none of that works now. Waiting for all this to get sorted out...
There are some major issues:
1) Promotions were radically scaled back (I mean massively).
I was at 24670 EXP, 230 away from the 3rd unlock, which was Sergent.
I logged on after patch and was promoted 4 times! in the span of about 6 seconds. Fair enough, the ranks did get tough after that (something like 25k, 75k, 150k, 250k), but now the situation is that everybody and their mother has M95's, PKM's, etc.
They must have scaled back the ribbons and medals as well, I got Veteran Assault Combat and Good Conduct Ribbon when I did nowhere near enough to get them.
The Anti-Air is good, much easier to shoot down things, and the 'only driver caps flag' is nice, but there seems to be a major issue where the game now reverts to the highest settings randomly. As a new map loads, there is a high percentage chance it will re-figure the shaders and, despite having everything on Low Settings, turn them all the way up and make things chug.
You then have to DC, Change them and RC.
Also, the notion that commanders now have 0 penalty for TK's has made every game I've played tonight turn into a commander dropping arty at will on spawn points that are already under control for our team.
The fixes are nice, but they really jacked more than a few things up.
Dammit! I was having an amazing round. Wake Island is fun to defend. So of course I lose the connection to the server. So I probably lost all those stats.
So whats the more useful unlock? I play as 3 classes usually, and I already have my medic unlock. Engineer, Special Forces, or Anti-Tank?
Engineer is the Jackhammer, auto-shotty. Great in close, 7 rounds, shit at distance. I don't have it, don't play Eng.
SF gets the G36C, which does higher damage, but has iron sights. If you can live with that, it's big improvement over the M4 and a slight improvement over the AK74.
Anti-tank gets the DAO-12, a revolver-type shotgun (auto), it has the same issues as the Eng one, (distance sucks, close rules, 7 rounds).
I reccomend the G36C, especially now that you get 1 point for every enemy CO asset you C4.
I have them all save for the Eng one, some are better than others:
Medic - L85 - Great single shot for distance, not so good 3+ round scoped, decent.
Support - PKM - Brutal. Does something like 47 dmg per hit, but you basically need to be proned every time, and shoot in 5-8 round bursts.
Assault - G3 - Useless. Sure, it does 40-something damage, but you only got 20 rounds, versus 30 for any other rifle, and, worse, you lose the grenade launcher. Not worth it.
Sniper - M95 - Bolt action .50 cal. Will shoot through helicopter glass. Everyone has it now. :/
Awesome. Thanks.
I got to play for an hour last night.
I'm at about 18,000 points. But not once did I get promoted, even though my "bar" shows as full for Sergeant. Kind of strange.
The little touches are the nicest. Spawn points with names, showing who is in vehicles with you, the new sounds (APC turret, engine noises, etc).
Like MVS said ... everyone seems alot deadlier now that everyone has multiple unlocks. I kind of prefered the old system of ranking, they just needed to bring down the higher ends of it to make it reachable in one's lifetime. :)
They did it for that reason, and they also did it cause the expansion is coming out soon. They dont want us playing BF2, chipping away at getting new unlocks. For alot of people, they would have no reason for buying the new expansion.Quote:

This is the bullshit I was afraid of - talk about lame.Quote:

And since outside of finding a server that unlocks all weapons theres no way to test them out before unlocking them, you get a situation like I posted above, asking others for help. Ranks have no real meaning in the game outside of unlocks anyway, so its not lame. It's more realistic thats all. The fact that MVS got promoted 4 times in a matter of minutes just goes to show how really out of whack the promotions were in the first place. Now, he should have been promoted all at once through those 4 ranks, but i guess the computer had to score a point after each promotion to activate the next.
I played 42 since its release, Nam for a bit but the 60 soured me, and now 2 since release. The guns were meant as a reward for players who play for an hour maybe a day. The rank system isnt there for casual players or people who don't care - That's what UNRANKED servers are for. If you want a gun - you will play to unlock it - if the game can't hold your interest for that long then why bother with the ranks at all?
For what it's worth - I dont think I would have made it past Sgt for at least a year either but 2 unlocks is more than enough. As for testing the weaps before using them - pick up a kit when you see a gun you want to try.
If you ask me [and no one did, I know] they should have made the weapon unlocks TIME based, not point based. keep the guns and ranks seperate - then everyone wins. A new gun every 2 and a half months since activation of your account.
When you get 100% of a rank, you get one point, log out and log in to unlock a weapon. I'm not going to complain that instantly everyone has the same weapons, but it removes all strategy that was there.Quote:

The problem I have, and others have talked about as well, is that they went too far on scaling them down. They were stupid beforehand, and you needed 250,000 to get the 7th and final rank (think how long that takes if you average 100 points in every single game you play), a handfull of people might have played those 2,500 maps to get them. Now, you rank up 6 times against the 3 of the old system. By the time you hit your 7th rank, you are at 4 in the old system.
Did Dice really need to make it so that every map now turns into M95 wars? I played on a 16v16 server last night and counted 9 snipers on our team, all with M95 trying to be l33t s/\/1p3r5.
Pretty weak.
Too bad snipers can be beaten pretty easily. They'll learn that pretty fast - the m95 ain't going to solve all their problems. Oh and the G3 isn't useless. It kills very fast, almost too fast that it seems cheap. Ive been using that for 2 months now and its the weapon of choice for infantry fighting.
I finally fixed my game after messing with my router for the past 2 evenings. Gained 2 ranks in 2 seconds tonight :)
He's trying to say that there is no team specific weapons anymore becasue everyone is walking around with their unlocks. Having the teams with different load outs did create strategy and added spice. Now we have a deathmatch like scenario where everyone has the same kits.
It is useless. Why trade 30x37 damage for a total of 1110 and the Grenade Launcher which kills in one shot (multiple enemies even) for something that does 20x40 and 800 damage total and hand grenades?Quote:

Last night was a first. In three successive maps I was the leading scorer (alot of bad players on the server), and the other teams kept initiating a kick on me (from multiple different people). Needed 16 votes .. only got 12. So lame.
Besides losing your Grenade Launcher (the ultimate BF2 weapon). You also get stuck with a short clip on the G3. So if you are trying to storm a flag. You spend half your time hiding while you are reloading. Pretty weak.
-------
I got my veteran Assualt badge last night. I wonder what the time requirements are for the Expert badge. It's not too uncommon for me to rack up 30-45 kills on a good Sharqi round. 37 has been my highest since the patch, yet no expert badge.

Damn, I just got hosed out of a bronze star. Scored 3rd highest on the level but didnt get a thing for it. No amused.
The first expansion for this comes out this Tuesday the 22nd for $30. It doesnt look like a huge leap as far as content goes but as long as I get some new BF maps im happy. It includes grappling hooks and zip lines and CounterStrike-like flashbangs and smoke grenades. I guess the focus is more on infantry combat with more interior combat compared with normal BF2. Also i think there are no jets in this version - I actually like this news because good pilots can ruin a server. Throw in some new armies and weapons and im sold.
Heres the newest trailer - looks pretty spiffy:
http://www.eagames.com/official/batt...Intro&resID=hi
When are you and the Cobra guys getting together to play Special Forces? We should all get together one night over the holiday!
Night vision, zip-lines and grappling hooks are either going to make or break this game, no doubt. I'm kinda suspicious since it has come out so quickly and I think the Vietnam team is responsible. I'm still getting it today but I hope this game was balanced out throughly. I think the game is going to lose a big aspect in its play, which is choke-points. Since all buildings are scaleable, choke-points are definitely going to be downplayed a bit.
I'm still waiting to see what reviewers and gamers alike have to say about the Special Forces expansion, as the small amount of maps and few new gameplay gimmicks really don't make this expansion seem like it's worth the $30. Unfortunately, it looks like it may be a while before we see any more information posted on the offical gaming sites because the Thanksgiving break is upon us and most of the gaming sites are still feverishly trying to finish up reviews for XBox 360 products.
If any of you do get this game, make sure to post some impressions whenever you have the time.
Weeman, I'll defintely post impressions on the game. Also, in BF I go under
NeN Conrooks, so if you get an invite to join our squad, please do! Its always fun to game with fellow TNLers.
Just got it, wanted to point this out:
NLOCKS
- By playing on a Battlefield 2â„¢: Special Forces map, you will gain the priviledge
of being able to unlock some of the Battlefield 2â„¢: Special Forces weapons for use
in regular BF2 maps. These unlocks are considered to be tier 2 unlocks, where as
the original unlocks are considered to be tier 1. You must first have unlocked
the tier 1 weapon for a particular kit before you can access and unlock the tier 2
weapon. As an example, if you must unlock the G3A3 for the assault kit before you
can unlock the F2000 for the assault kit.
Got it. Only played 4 or so maps. Servers are very unstable at the moment. The game has a different feel from normal BF2. Things are faster and youll end up dying ALOT when things get hectic due to the smaller maps. The learning curve seems alot higher than BF2. Its a more action packed close quarters combat BF2. Vehicles arent as dominate.
Theres a few new weapons - not a whole lot more. The MEC army has i think only one new weapon (an RPG). You can use these weapons in normal BF2 - including flashbangs - which might mess up a couple of the old maps. The maps i played were good fun except for the raid on the aircraft carrier, which ran at like 5 fps for me, but i have an older 3d card. The tear gas and gas mask combo are totally badass. Launch a tear gas nade into a room while you equip your gas mask and watch the whole room run like mad in circles as you lay waste to them.
The vehicles are pretty much identicle. Cept for the ATV and jet skis - which go so fast that its pretty funny when you see one zip by. Theres also a 5 man Tank - not an APC. The choppers are pretty much identicle but the Hind sure does look badass.
I only got to spend about 5 minutes on a night map and it seemed like alot of fun. The darkness isnt as bad as i originally expected. The SF weapons being brought over to normal BF2 might cause a pretty big stir in the community. It forces alot of people to buy the expansion to keep up with those that have an advantage with the SF weapons (flashbangs and such). I heard that on some maps even the grapple hooks will be usable on the old BF2 maps for SF owners. I need alot more play time on this but ide say go out and pick it up. Its only 30 bucks.
Though some will complain it's a cash grab, I like the idea of having the weapoons acessible in the normal game. Not only does it add value to the pack, but it adds new strategy with the flashbangs and the like. IF I pay for the add on I should be able to access its features - if you choose not to fine - but don't complain that you don't have the guns you didn't pay for - want them that bad then take them from the guys corpse. [that was in general to the community Destro, not you in case I was being confusing!]
I got it as well and I feel kinda mixed about it. My main gripe is a couple maps could have been thought out waaaay better. Surge is the worst one for me. I really really hate that map. It feels like a bland Road to Rome map, not something for BF2.
I love the night vision and the slower pace in general of the expansion. Vehicles have taken a back seat to squad-based play. Now if only people would quit messing around and get back into joining squads, we map have something.
I also went into the original BF2 with my newly aquired Spec Ops gun as well. I like the fact EA did that and I don't see that being a horrible balance issue like i thought originally. The community will cry , then buy the expansion.
I will say that if you enjoy the on-foot fighting of BF2, then go for this expansion. If you're more into the vehicle side of things, stay far far away from it. I personally can see myself playing both and enjoying both.
Spent more time on a night map. wow the bf gameplay youre used to completely changes here. You have to be cautious of literally every corner you turn. Cool stuff.
Just wanted to let the TNL BF2 players know that tonight, were having a BF2 marathon from 9pm EST till 6am. Everyone who weve ever played BF2 with are gonna be there. Changling and maybe weeman are gonna be there, any one else is welcome to join. Use xfire. Username: destro777. All night long baby!
I just bought the expansion last night, and haven't played BF2 in months. I might play a little tonight if I'm around.
I am pleasantly surprised that Gamespot managed to put up the Internet's first review of BF2: SF before going on break for the Thanksgiving holiday:
http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrank...eviewid=644900
Technical issues aside, most of the impressions so far seem to be positive, so I may just go ahead and pick this up since I have a giftcard that can cover about 90% of the cost. I just pray that none of these technical issues affect me and that EA gets going on fixing the increased lag/load times.
Ya good luck with that EA fixing stuff thing.
I picked this expansion up two days ago for $2 (thanks to a sale and Target gift card) and so far I'm enjoying the new weapons/maps/vehicles and the general change of pace in the gameplay. Overhead spam is practically non-existent, and a lot of the new weapons are significant upgrades to their pre-existing peers. I'm especially pleased with the two new SCAR gun models and the grappling hook/zip-line, as they actually got me more interested in playing the Spec Ops and Assault kits. ATVs finally give lone wolf players a way of moving around the map without having to worry about battling armor and aircrafts—they’re fast enough to get past pretty much all armor unscathed and their small size lets them squeeze into places that bigger vehicles can’t go. Anyone looking for more BF 2 content with a slightly different playstyle should check it out.
Additionally, if anyone is still having trouble with long loads and frame-rate issues in-game you might want to check out these two system optimization/tweak guides. The second link in particular has some handy advice that greatly reduced my load times and cut down on a lot of the choppiness that I’ve been experiencing in Special Forces (after making some changes it now runs just as smooth as regular BF 2).

So does anyone know of some quality Special Forces servers?
Hey, did EA ever fix that bug that randomly prevents a PC from being able to install the game?
So far there have been two official patches dealing specifically with the game's bugs, balance issues, etc. so those install issues that you had during the game's initial release should have been fixed by now.Quote:

Some awesome news on the latest patch:
http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=14052
Supposedly, this patch is about two months away from being finished. The elimination of dolphin diving/bunnyhopping and the proposed tweaks to air vehicles and air defense systems make me extremely happy. Once the pilot community started to become proficient with launching bombs and missiles from the air BF2 became significantly less fun for landlubbers like myself. Hell, the main reason that I'm enjoying Special Forces so much is because there's essentially zero air-spam. The proposed tightening up of infantry combat should only make the BF2 experience even more fun in the future.Quote:

For now, cheers.

Awesome news! Nice to see annoying things fixed, esp. "dolphin diving". Thats just annoying. Reloading while sprinting will be nice since I play Anti-tank alot. I always hated trying to balance between running away from a tank and still reloading for the next shot. I agree with the name color bug. I have no idea why that took EA so long to address. What was the sprint exploit, anyway.
All in all, sounds cool! Still like regular BF2 better(better maps) I still will play this. You gotta start jumping into squads with Destro and I sometime, Wee! We're always on during the weekend.
Yeah, I just started playing BF2 pretty regularly again over the past week or so. Lately though I've spent all my time on a Special Forces sever called East Coast Massacre; as I mentioned earlier, the extermination of air-spam, decreased travel-time from point to point—the action is almost non-stop—and nifty new ways of approaching hot-spots (thanks to the grapple hook and zip line) make the SF maps infinitely more fun to play (at least for me).
I normally squad-hop whenever I do play BF2, so if you guys want to keep communication going during gameplay go ahead and join the BF2 channel on this Ventrilo server: vent.bsdterritory.com (port: 3795)
If I’m playing BF2, then Ventrilo is probably running, and since I’ve been having some trouble with Xfire lately, connecting to our Ventrilo server is really the best way of hooking up with me for a game. I’ll be on tonight starting around 11:00 PM EST.
Protip: If you hit the reload button before pressing the sprint key, you will be able to sprint while the reload animation occurs.

I bet that the anti-tank unlock will be the RPG, but I have no clue what the new sniper rifle will be like.Quote:
TotalBF2.com: What about new content? Can we expect some new maps or weapons to make the list in this patch, or possibly even a future patch?
Armando: Other than the addition of two new unlock weapons (for the sniper and AT), there will not be more content in the patch. There is a plan for additional content as we move forward, but patches will not be the means of delivering this new content.
TotalBF2.com: Is there any news on the Final build of the editor? A possible ETA on the release?
Armando: The eta on the next build of the editor looks to be the same as the patch date. As we continue to create content, we continue to work with the editor and find areas where it can be improved.
TotalBF2.com: Will there be any possible performance issues resolved, such as lag or performance enhancements like faster load times?
Armando: We are addressing performance issues. Whether they will be completely resolved or not is a different matter. We have found gains in the game that have yielded an improvement in frame rate. We are looking into improving lag, but I have no news on that matter as of yet. As far as load times go, if we find something that will help, we will surely include it.
Given EA's hurried and careless--at least, in regards to product quality--game-release policies, I'm glad that DICE is still pumping out fresh content and fixing important issues via community input.
I'd hope for the sake of the game that the AT unlock would be an AA missile.
That would make my day. If they'd do this, I'd like for it to work like the AA missile in Desert Combat.Quote:

I still play this game all the time - nothing else online is close. Use xfire and join up.
I don't know if they would make AA a weapon unlock, but I can see it being added to the Anti Tank class. Thats what was done with Desert Combat. They made it so Anti-Air missles did nothing against ground-based units. It worked well, because up until then, DC was dominated by the air.
Map and weapon packs sound very very cool. It'd be nice if they were free downloads but then again, we're talkin EA here.

Apparently, the 1.2 Patch is being tested as we speak, so the release day should finally be coming sometime soon.
