New game from Monolith, of No One Lives Forever and Shogo: MAD fame. If it's as good as NOLF2, with graphics that sweet, then yes it'll be worth playing.
NoLF was an awsome title. It had all the humor of an old Lucas Arts adventure game with a great combat engine and awsome graphics. Color me interested.
Hmm, I hope that it was the quality of the trailer, not the game itself, because frankly it looked pretty crappy.
Still, I will hold off the judgment until I learn and see more of this game.
And NOLF 1&2 were excellent.
That would be FEIR, not FEAR :p
From what I understand it was only shown behind closed doors and did not appear on the floor. G4 ran a small E3 segment on it though. :)Quote:

I rarely buy PC titles Day One, but for the DC, I just might. You are right it does have some neat stuff.

I think they changed it to match now.Quote:

Played the demo. Seems pretty good. I especially liked when the soldier jumped through the window to get away from me shooting him. I hope they optimize it better though. Every so often the game would halt to load up the next big area, except it wouldn’t do it with a now loading screen. Running a P4 3.62, a gig of pc4000 ram, a raptor and a 6800 Ultra. So the specs are there.
Need to up to 2Gig of RAM or turn down the texture detail to get rid of the hitching when you go to a new area.
2gig? Only 1gig works fine on my PC...Quote:

Then that's two games, you can upgrade and not break your one game rule :P
Anybody else get it?
Does multiplayer make this worth actually buying?
According to every review I've read the single player makes it more than worth it.Quote:

I think I'm halfway through the single player game and so far the game is just fine. If there was one thing I do not like about the game is that there is so far little variety is environments..its all buildings. offices, basements..etc. The small outdoor section backgrounds are poor looking too. They don't go nuts on the scary ring girl stuff..its a periodic thing which is nice. They could have gone overboard with it but they spread out each appearance so each time its a nice event.
As for performance..well... I put almost max detail and am running at 1024x768 and it chugs during big firefights but I don't care. I refuse to kill lots of detail for the sake of framerates..20fps is just fine with me until I can get better hardware (I intend on a full upgrade next spring). Putting the game at 800x600 helps alot but the game doesn't look so hot in that ugly res. My Athlon 2500+, 1gig ram and 9800 is still going ...sorta strong! ..I could imagine how this game looking on a better rig but oh well.
I have a GeForceFX 5600 which really chokes on stuff with alot of pixel shader effects, and FEAR definately qualifies. If I turn the quality up I get like... 2 fps. Good to know my Athlon64 3200 won't be a problem one I take care of the vid card, though.
I did, but I can't play it. "Original disc could not be found or authenticated." Thanks, Securom!Quote:

Also, how on earth is that legal? GRAH I HATE PC COPY PROTECTION SCHEMES
Yes.. it gave me some message about having an emulation program installed. Stupid copy protections get on my damn nerves.. freakin games get cracked anyways. Even the dreaded starforce gets cracked. Valve's Steam gets cracked... everything gets damn cracked. Why must all the new copy protections be so damn intrusive to all legal owners?Quote:

SR7.Stop download.
Just scroll down till you see it and hopefully that'll help you. Maybe you'll find something else that could help your situation.
Hopefully the mods wont delete this link as legit users are having stupid problems with the damn copy protection for FEAR (and other games) so these utilities shouldn't be frown upon and thought of as pirate crap.
cant you just manually disable alcohol or nero? always wroked for me.
Awesome program, but I don't think that's my problem.Quote:

A no-cd crack would work, but I prefer to avoid those if I can help it.
Well..you might as well use it strictly for the single player mode. Obviously multiplayer would be an issue right.. but then again you got a real cdkey so its no big deal. I use no-cd cracks for all my single player only games..see no reason why I shouldn't use 'em.Quote:

So..it's just OKAY then?
I like it, and me and my brother were deathmatching for a while last night.
I still haven't touched multiplayer nor will I bother but I am really enjoying the single player game more and more as I play. The gunfights are fun, the visuals are better than I give it credit for (I wish I had a better pc gaming rig) and I like how they space out that "ring bitch" scary stuff. They don't go nuts on it which would have killed the pacing.Quote:

If you liked the demo you'll like the full game.
Does it run the same as the demo or is it less of a resource hog? I liked the demo but it sucked setting the graphics to ultra-pixel-fest for me to run it decently.Quote:

The game doesn't look so hot and its jaggy like hell on that res but at least its more than playable on my pc.
I just played some of this earlier and found it amazing. I'm only an hour in but goddamn do I love the animation and sound design, it's really great stuff. Chances are the neighbors heard the gunfire from my room but it's too nice to have turned down.
Good game. The action was top notch, but to be honest, I felt the experience was a bit shallow. Definitely lacks some of the personality of Monolith's other titles.
Just finished it. FEAR has some of the worst level design I've ever seen. And one of the most boring plots. If the combat wasn't so goddamn incredible, it would be one of Monolith's worst games.
I like the graphics, I like the blood, I like the cheap scares, I like the combat.
Level design, not so much.
i cant get it to work. demo was fine. i launch the game and have sound but a black screen. latest patch and updated drivers. even tried 3 different forceware sets.

I'm still waiting for N.O.L.F. 3 but I doubt that'll happen.
so the level design is poor functionally or just thematically? Those are two very different things.
Thematically, mostly..Quote:

Not exactly the most glamourous way for a heavily armed shock trooper to be spending his time.
However, it seems that all of the right angles and narrow pathways are there to help the enemy AI, which is absolutely remarkable. Fighting the stock human troops is a joy throughout and it's really the only reason I kept playing.
I really just like shooting somebody in the knee and hearing them yell FUCK!
We should play this online sometime, you losers.
Finally got around to picking this up a week or so ago. Just finished it and like many here was very disappointed with the storyline and design. Combat was darn cool, but the story was weak and I didn't find it scary at all. :(
I was hoping that this would me a game that would compete with HL2 for my most favorite FPS, but like every other game with potential, FEAR fell way short. Here's hoping for a positive show from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and PREY.
Too bad S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s date was just pushed back to October.
