I applaud the people in the article for saying what needs to be said. If I go to live in another country, I would make an effort to learn a little bit of the native tongue. The number of people in this country that are not showing us that basic courtesy is staggering, and nobody is pointing it out like they should for fear of the PC police swooping down upon them.

i got real sick and tired of people giving ME attitude because i didnt speak their native tounge
not to be an ass but really the native language of america is english if your going to live here and work here you should make some effort to learn it
when my great grandparents moved here from italy they fucking learned english sure they spoke italian at home but they learned english so they could work and provide a living to their family
if they could do it so can every one else
When I went to italy I did my best to speak the language as best I could and found it alot easier to get around and buy things knowing even a little bit of the language as opposed to just speaking english to everyone (all though alot of people in rome know english, but i digress)
I don't reckon we ain't got no language problem around here.
Personally I agree wholeheartedly with the article. I've been saying that shit for years. There's no reason that everyone should not be expected to speak english after living here for a while and especially when working a customer service job which requires that you talk to people.
At work (cashier at a drug store) i usually greet everyone with something like "Hi, did you find everything ok?" And whenever the short, portly mexican ladies say "No english", i continue to talk to them about random subjects, such as hockey and the fact that they dont speak english. Its pretty funny.
Now im just waiting to get fired.
I work for my uncle doing construcitony type stuff, and there are all sorts of mexicans that dont speak english working under me.
They are so much fun to fuck with...

I agree with the article. I came here not knowing any English and then (gasp!) I learned it out of necessity.
