Last week I bought A Better Tomorrow I & II and watched them for the first time. Part two was insane and over the top! Now I don’t know which movie is my favorite: ABT2 or Hard Boiled. Woo’s American films are also bad-ass (Face Off and MI2), but they still don’t have that same feel his Hong Kong joints have.

I like Last Hurrah for Chivalry best. I dunno, Killer and Hard Boiled are amazing, but I saw them after seeing tons of other gunfight films.
The Killer is Woo's best. Great performance of CYF and Danny Lee, awesome action and tragic story. Harboiled is 2nd best, is non-stop action, especially last 40 minutes, which are essentialy 1 big action sequence.
As for Woo's US output, Hard Target(director's cut), is his best work, followed by Face Off.
I am sorry I dont know much Honk Kong flicks. Actually thats a lie. I don't know any and never saw them. I now wish I did, but anyway as far as American John Woo I'd say Broken Arrow. I liked that much more than any of his later. Even, yes Face/Off; I really did not like that one at all. Serious too about that. Face/Off was horrible and MI2 ... that waste of film .... not even worth saying anything more.
I liked Hard Boiled too as well as Face Off.
Face Off is shit. Really corny story and over-the-top, pretentious filmmaking. It's just lame.
The Killer is fucking killer.
I would have to agree I thought The Killer was one of his best films I saw out of the ones I've seen, plenty of action and a sad kind of story... at least I thought so :p
I've always like Bullet in the Head best, even with the nutty, demolition derby ending. Yeah, it's a blatant Deer Hunter rip, but pretty much all of his HK films have stories cribbed from somewhere else.

2) The Killer
3) Hard Boiled
A Better Tomorrow 2 was kind of ridiculous. Not just the premise, but the action as well. (Tho I did like True Romance copping that one scene!)
Bullet in the Head is way, way overhyped. I don't see how people can take that movie seriously.
Last Hurrah For Chivalry is good: Not necessarily his forte, but good nonetheless.
Anything he's made in the US makes me embarrassed to be a fan. Mr. Woo, go back to Hong Kong!
