Hey Shane, is Growlanser actually coming to the US or what? Goemon is cool but it pales in comparison to Growlanser...:) THANX
If this is true, I don't know what to think. Vic did mention that they would be straying from their traditional output of games so, I'm not putting it past them to bring out something like Goemen. But Goemen for the PS2? I'm not too thrilled about that...
Yay!!!
I love Goeman!!!
and..
I love working designs..and all the extras they include!!!
Yay!!!!!!
Well that isn't what I hoped for, any Growlanser would have been alot better then that... I wish Atlus would at least bring Growlanser III to the USA :(
Yippie! I've always wanted to play another f*ckin' Goeman game! Now I'll have to wait 5 years to get to it! Thanks WD, you da best!
While I'm definitely not too thrilled with WD bringing out this particular Goemen game, I don't see it being delayed excessively as some of their past efforts.
I hope they include jokes that THEY find funny, that NOBODY else finds funny. Oh WD, why you so crrrrazy?
cool, goemon rocks. this right after my recent goemon search thread too. woo hoo!
Why you bash on goeman :(.Quote:

Check out Vic's first impressions and second impressions of the old PS2 import.
Well its about time we got another Goemon here in the States. To date all we've gotten is the SNES classic and a crappy GB title. I think WD can do the series justice. Its goofy nature is right up their alley :D
There's an awful lot of people in this thread that "love" Goemon but can't seem to spell his name...
Actually, there were 2 Goemon titles released for the 64 here in the states as well. The first one, Mystical Ninja 64 was just average in my opinion, while Goemon's Great Adventure was more along the lines of Mystical Ninja on the SNES. I never did get to try out the GB game, but it didn't look like anything I would want to go near.Quote:

Here's the secret to Vic: if he likes a game, chances are he's trying to get the rights to it. If he doesn't like the game, it isn't coming from them.
He ALWAYS finds problems with every game other than the ones WD releases. What was that recent thing from him where he bashed pretty much every shooter BUT PS2 Silpheed? And he always has something negative to say about every non-WD RPG.
Nice to see another Goemon game coming stateside. Thanks for the heads up.
And thanks for the usenet post links, Ben.
There's a simple reason for this, really.Quote:

Vic is an asshole.
I barely even keep track of WD nowadays. They've gone so downhill it isn't even funny. Mediocre games with awesome boxes wear thin after a while.
I can't believe this is their next game. Goemon is cool and all, but c'mon! Whatever happened to the WD that released orphaned rpgs? They've turned into a company that just releases whatever is left over, and they take forever to do it too.
so true it hurts.Quote:

ouch.
Fans aside, I think it'll take a lot more than a foil cover and such to convince people to buy a Goemon title in the US.
I think now's the time when Vic & Co. should really have a better process of determining which games they'll fuck up; they can't afford to have many more unprofitable titles.
What the hell is Konami doing whoring out Goemon to the hacks at Working Delays? What's next? Suikoden? Vandal Hearts? Castlevania? Damn you, Konami!
Well, it beats it not coming out in America at all, doesn't it?

It'd be enough for me :D. Hehh, really though. You would be surprised how many people will get the game cause of a shiny cover and big package shoved with extras.
Not in my opinion. The last Working Designs game I bought new was Lunar 2 on Sega CD. I refuse to support their butchered translations and forced extras. Happiness is Vic Ireland's face on a milk carton.Quote:

Sounds to me like he rated the game 7.5 out of 10 based on the intro music.Quote:

On the bright side, Goemon is cool and it probably won't take 5 years to translate. Of course, I'm sure WD will try to prove me wrong and find some why to make it take that long.
On the other hand, I'd rather have Growlanser.
I like Goemon and all, but I'll reserve judgement on this game til I play it. The new look of Goemon does not impress me so the play mechanics better step up. *-neo
Jeezum Crow, guys! You gotta give WD some credit! After all, they bring games to the U.S. that no one else would. I give em a hi-five for bringing me Thunder Force V.
And if anyone has an example of some text that has been oh-so-drastically altered by them, then let's see it. I've been hearing people say this about WD but never any evidence. If it's just the random villager cracking a new joke instead of a faithful translation of the original boring, pointless thing he says, ehhhh,i don't care.
Regardless, I'd rather buy an English version of Lunar 2 with some slight, unnoticeable changes than a U.S. version of Metal Slug X or Last Blade 2 with WHITE BLOOD.
Funny you should use Lunar 2 as your example, as WD made a bonehad change in the save game system in that one -- making it so it required points to be spent to save.Quote:

To save a game you had to use roughly the same number of points you'd recieve in one battle.Quote:

Simply made you think about when to save a game and that's one change I can respect. *-neo
There's no such thing as a change I could respect. This is Working Designs implying that they could improve a GameArts game. That is utter bullshit, just like when they thought they could improve Treasure's Silhouette Mirage.Quote:

Some people in this topic need to step out and take in some fresh air.
Rob, you said what I was going to much better than I could have, thanks.
Obviously I refuse to comment on any games WD may or may not do. But I will say this to all the people up in arms about WD's continued existence-

So does Atlus. So does ASCII. So does that new Fresh Games label from whomever it was (Eidos?).Quote:

The point is, they aren't special anymore. And now that they aren't, their flaws are far more obvious and harder to ignore.
Where the hell is my Growlanser games then, Atlus barely brings out half the titles they make in Japan :(Quote:

I still believe that Working Designs is the most unique company out there (not everything is good about them, but then again, name a company that deserves nothing but praise) and I will probably always be a fan of their overall direction and style. Yeah, Vic is a conceited asshole, but at least he cares enough about gaming to "stay in the mix" on a daily basis. The company is a breath of fresh air compared to the likes of numerous companies (I'll refrain from naming some).
Yeah. I hate it when games come out in the U.S. that otherwise wouldn't have.Quote:

It sux0rz.
I've heard this argument against WD a lot lately-- that they butcher translations. My question-- do most of you on this board read Japanese and did you play through the original Japanese versions to know that they butchered the translations? Sure they made some changes and added some humor, but most of the games they bring over are amazing. What about Arc the Lad? Is it that bad? Personally, I love it and Arc 2 is amazing...the story seems decent to me...as it did with Lunar 1 and 2...Quote:

If you don't like 'em, don't buy their products. So what Vic may be an a@#$%^&. Do you think Bill Gates is any nicer? Who cares? I'm not inviting these people over for dinner...what do I care how they act? If I like a game they are releasing then I'll buy it, if I don't I won't. It's your choice. The alternative? Buy the original and play that since so many of you seem to know Japanese well enough to translate them better than WDs.
My sentiments exactly.Quote:

That's what I'm saying. If anyone here can, then let's compare some of these changes in translation with what the original Japanese would have translated as. Something tells me people just hear this from other people and then go around spouting off like its the gospel truth when they don't really know what they're talking about.Quote:

I'm curious as to what I missed out on by playing the WD versions of Lunar 1 & 2, someone help me out.
I know.Quote:

I just wanted to add that I find it kind of funny that nobody on the official WD forum is talking about Goemon. Several other sites ran the news... I think the Big Brothers over at WD are policing the boards and deleting posts, personally. People's minds must not be blown by Goemon until e3!!

Thray-Walsh- Not true, you're paranoid. And insulting.

Ummm... I for one would really love to see the Suikoden side-story games released here someday. Maybe a collection on the PS2 (if 3 sells well over here) ;) hint, hint WD.Quote:

They aint perfect, but I like 'em,

Well say what you will about Working Designs inability of not doing 100% accurate translations of their games, but least give them credit for releasing niche games that otherwise wouldn't have stand a chance of being released outside Japan. I do find their tampering with their games' difficulty level to be annoying though.

I was thinking they could bring it out as part of a Suikoden 3 "package".
but that was the wishful kind of thinking. . .
