More use from the HDD than SONY ever planned.

Yeah... it's pretty clearly saying that if you have a pirate copy of HD Loader, it won't work. You have to have a purchased copy for this all to work.

see what i said above. if you take the hdd from the modded system to the unmodded system you will not be able to play those types of games. you need the modchip to send the security check signal. it doesnt just happily install that and allow you to trnsfer it to an unmodded console. so if you want to play burned games loaded into your hdd you NEED to use the chipped system. and im sure the mods will want to close this real quick.

you need a modchip to play downloaded/burned games because it install the game as-is. and burned/downloaded games dont have the security ring that modchips circumvent.

original games are fine and shouldnt be a problem. dont quote me tho. check the ps2nfo section of ps2ownz the next couple of days while everytihng is sorted.

I read some post on a message board (cause they're a wealth of reliable information!) about some dude who tried the hdloader with a seagate (afaik) 120gb drive and had no problems whatsoever with it, minus FFXI which won't work at all without the sony HDD.

edit x2: Apparently it doesn't copy dvd9 games (Xenosaga) properly and those still have to be played from the disc.

yeah final fantasy will only work when you can format a drive "sony style". hasnt happened yet but is being worked on.

I tried reading the post on Ps2owns, but it won't let me register for the forums. Anybody else run into this problem?

you have to register at the main ps2ownz forum to look at the psnfo forums if thats what you mean. the account works for both.
