UHDTV won't catch on. HDTV is already firmly situated in the minds of the consumers and broadcasters, and they won't bother upgrading for at least another 20-30 years.
Also, quit being lazy -- post this stuff in Circuit Board. You went to the trouble to click on Sound Off, so I'm sure you could have clicked once more to get into the appropriate forum. :p
havnt there been rumors of the ps3 using that blu-ray technology?
Yes, it's pretty much confirmed that Sony will be using Blu-Ray for the PS3.
Blu-Ray won't make it into retail movie distribution. There will be some other HD-DVD technology (they've already got it going actually) that will become mainstream, mainly due to Sony's nack for creating/buying technologies and licensing them for more than other companies can afford or wish to pay out. The industry likes the multi-company consortium approach that the CD and DVD standards took, so don't be surprised to see Phillips, Toshiba and a few other big names become the HD-DVD leaders, despite Sony's PS3 userbase (which, by the virtue of the gaming industry's trends, could be all but obliterated by the time the system is actually ready for release).
Besides, the PS3 will probably be HD-DVD compatable anyway -- Sony likes to talk big, but they will back down if they realize they have to have it in their machine.
confirmed? did i miss something? since when? ...i thought sony was just bluffing to scare of the competition. besides, do you really think BD technology would be affordable by 2006 to be implimented into the PS3?(or was it 2007?) :\Quote:

If i read right the other problem with Sony's format is that its not 100% compatable with older dvds
where as HD-DVD will be
Sony has a nack for always wanting to re-invent the wheel instead of just improving on it, they always want to OWN the standard
the problem is, people dont like having to rebuy what they allready have, DVDs have finally over taken VHS and people are rebuying their VHS movies on DVD, people arent going to have to have to rebuy those DVDs because their Blu Ray play doesnt happen to support their movie
Blu-Ray has been talked about for at least what, 2 years? It's by no means "new"
