Weeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I paid $300 for it a few months back. I'm pretty sure that I've gotten $100 of use out of it so far :)
Good news for the rest of you all - time to buy those $200 PS2s and Xboxes (cause you know it will happen) !!

Looks like sony is pulling out all the stops in their effort to rid the industry of microsoft and its xbox. Hopefully I'll finally replace my MIA ps2 soon
It becomes official the day after I spent three times the price of a PS2 upgrading my computer and I don't even want to talk about how much it cost to upgrade to the latest version of 3DS Max. What wonderful luck I have. O_o
I'm sort of surprised Sony did this since they're already selling so well, but I guess more consoles sold means more software royalties.
And more people to scoop up their downloadable licensed movie games !!Quote:

Heh.
Damn Sony (and import stores), where's my $200 JPN PS2 ??
- Kabuki
Wait....is this really true?
Now all I need is a way to play imports on the damn thing and I'd be good to go.
I won't get get another PS2 again until it drops at least to $99.... It's not worth as much as the 4 XB/GC games I could be getting instead.
Don't know...what to...spend...money on...
this should make things really interesting.
man oh man, just 6 more days...i can't wait for those doors to open.
Hell yes! I'm not concerned about the PS2 price drop because I already have one, but I for one am extremely happy they dropped the PSOne down to $49 :D I thought it would just be dropped down to $79, but for $49 I'll definitely be picking one up ASAP. I've had one before, and besides being so damn cute, I NEEEEED one of them PSOne LCD Screens! I tried one at Toysrus a few days ago and DAMN! The resolution, the portability, the sheer fact that I can play any of PSX's RPGs, Metal Slug X, the Tony Hawks, the Gran Turismos, Einhander, the Medal of Honors, the Ridge Racers and so many others in all of their portable glory :D
I was about to post the same thing.
The Playstation 1 at $49 is an absolute steal.
I'm gonna pick one up.
Well it looks like my prediction was off by two weeks. Can I get half a cookie?
You can play bootlegs and imports with the help of a gameshark. Ask Ethugg on this , he probably knows the code.Quote:

Thank god they finally had some sense and dropped the price but Im still not sure if I want me secondary system to be Xbox or PS2.....(Assuming Xbox follows suite)

Underlining its faith in the video-game business as an engine for growth, Sony Corp (news - web sites). slashed the price of the PlayStation 2 (news - web sites) console in the United States Tuesday to dlrs 199, underpricing its biggest rival, Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox (news - web sites), by dlrs 100.
The price cut was part of a business plan outlined Tuesday by the Tokyo electronics and entertainment giant. Sony's PlayStation 2, which has now sold more than 30 million worldwide, had been selling in the United States for dlrs 299, the same as the Xbox.
Under a strategy for the fiscal year that began last month, Sony hopes to turn around its troubled electronics sector by connecting more products with its game and entertainment businesses as people increasingly use gadgets as network-linking tools.
Sony is now banking on its movies, encouraged by the refreshing box-office success of "Spider-Man" after years of putting out flops. The film has received positive reviews since it started showing earlier this month and is virtually assured of becoming one of the top-grossing movies ever.
Sony also set up a new company called Network Application and Content Service Sector that will work as a bridge over its three "core" businesses — electronics, games and entertainment.
The new company will work on creating strategic links in services that bring the three areas together and come up with new services and products for what Sony envisions as the "broadband network society" — homes filled with Sony gadgets such as TVs, mobile phones and personal computers that link not only with each other but also to the Internet.
"It's been 'Spider-Man' everywhere," Chief Executive Nobuyuki Idei said at a news conference at a Tokyo hotel. "Our aim is to have Sony recognized as a company with three core sectors — electronics, games and content."
If all works out as Sony hopes, people will be using Vaio computers to link up gadgets to download music by Sony performers such as Jennifer Lopez, looking at previews for Sony films on Sony mobile phones and watching Sony Pictures DVDs on huge Sony "home theater" TVs.
PlayStation 2 will be a key Net-linking machine as online games and other downloads become available later this year in Japan, Sony said. Sony has not said when such services for the PlayStation 2 will be available in the United States.
Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, who was also at Tuesday's announcement, said PlayStation 2 controls 82 percent of the market, soundly beating its rivals, the Xbox and Nintendo (news - web sites)'s GameCube.
Microsoft has said 1.5 million Xbox have been sold and it plans to ship 3.5 million or 4 million by June. Microsoft recently lowered the price of the Xbox by about a third in Europe but has kept its price in Japan and the United States unchanged. Xbox sells for 34,800 yen (dlrs 270) in Japan.
"There are no plans now to lower the Xbox price. But as a strategy, lower prices are always a possibility," said Midori Takahashi, Microsoft spokeswoman in Tokyo.
Nintendo, which makes the Mario and Pokemon games, also denied any plans to cut prices. "No chance at all," said Yasuhiro Minagawa, Nintendo spokesman in Kyoto.
Game Cube, which went on sale in the United States in November, sells for dlrs 199 and has sold about 4 million worldwide so far.
In Japan, the PlayStation 2 has been selling for 29,800 yen (dlrs 230). Kutaragi said the machine will now go for an "open" price here starting Thursday. That means it will likely be discounted at some stores.
Maybe this will help drop import PS2 prices.Quote:

Heres an article from USA Today regarding the price drop for the PS2 and PSone.
Heh, it's all over.
I hope this means import systems are dropped as well, if so I'll finally be getting a PS2. (and a PSone to replace my modded PSX, yay) Psyvariar here I come.
Well I just called Mancow's Morning Madhouse (after all I'm in Chicago) and got this news announced on the show... this news will affect a lot of people, as if this thread itself isn't already making evident.
Finally...
Not that it matter much to me, anyway...
But... Anyone know of a place that can mod PSones? I heard of a few people that can do it...
Have PaCrappa do it, he's the man for the job.
Great... I had no idea he could do it... Any idea what he charges?Quote:

That PSX-Change isn't the greatest...
Off to Funcoland I go. Time to buy a PoS 2 (Ha! I still think that's funny :)). Seriously though, time to buy one. Heck I already have a PlayStation but I can't pass up a $50 PS one either. My main game room has a floor that won't stand up to DDR now that I have moved, and I haven't played in a while. A second PS in the basement should take care of that.
Well I don't want to speak for him but when he did it for me quite a while ago it was $25 I think.
PSOne at around $50. It's about time.
This should be interesting though. With all the living consoles of this generation at the same price, who will get the sales. This will be very interesting indeed.
Heh - this thread was right next to the "Huge Increase in Sales Predicted" thread. Coincidence?
The sales figures following the price drops will be highly interesting.
PS1 @ $50??!!?? Wonder how fast they'll sell out... :)
And a $200 Xbox is looking VERY tempting indeed.
Damn... I wish the PSOne + LCD combo was dropped to $100. I'd pick one up in an instant, as it'd be great to have for my trip.
I'm kind of surprised to see Sony drop the price at this point, but I guess they wanted to snub their noses at MS and make the Xbox price drop seem less special.
The PS2 was already outselling the GC and Xbox combined at $300. Now that it's cheaper, it's sure as hell not gonna sell any worse.Quote:

Mmmm $50 PSX, that little sucker better take a import mod though.
As for PS2, I'll wait. More concerned with the games I have now and the only two PS2 titles I'd care to buy are Psyvariar and Auto Modellista. $149 Gamecube anyone? *-neo
Finally!
I own about 8 brand new sealed PS2 games and have never owned a PS2!
I can finally play them, yay!
It's nice to see gamestop.com and ebgames.com reducing their price immediately, but my local Target is somehow *still* waiting for "official word," and I have until Friday to get my $100 rebate. :( I know, I know. Patience; for the Jedi it is time to eat as well.
Now that the PS2 and Xbox are $200 I'm going to do a little shopping within the next few weeks.
OR:
I could wait a little while longer and catch up on the 60 or so games I still need to get to among my other consoles.
Decisions Decisions...
Ah, Mancow is still rockin' it I see. I can't get him on the local stations anymore...Quote:

Is Mancow a video game fan ??
- Kabuki
I don't think he really cared.
I got on, stated my piece, he replied with a "Thank GOD you called this show with that important information" and *click* off I went. Whatever.
The important thing is that the people listening heard it, and that I got on the damned radio.
EDIT: Just had a thought; the show's email add is mancow@mancow.com, and I can't say how often he insists that he personally reads every email sent in. Maybe 20 emails to him from all you people telling him how "Great it was to hear of the PS2 price drop on May 14" would make him realize something... Just a thought :)
Well good job, regardless of how he reacted.Quote:

just the PS2
Think of it this way. The consoles will almost always be available, but when they stop making certain games, they become a pain in the ass to find. I say ( just my opinion ) go for the rarer games first, and then hit the consoles!Quote:

This is good news indeed. Now I can play my PS games without worrying about my PS dying. Ico and Rez sound tempting too. Plus, KOF 2001 and Metal Slug 4!
You know the best part of this?
Joe Consumer, who doesn't know all of the smalltalk about what is going on in gaming, is going to see the PS2 drop to $200 first. Then, they will see the supposedly "superior" Xbox drop to that price as well, as if to play catch up.
Why is this new, more powerful system copycatting the price of a system that has been out for far longer, and is supposedly inferior?
Heh heh heh...
it will be next week. as for the ps2, i walked around the local best buy and circuit city and they were sold out of ps2's. :cool:Quote:

Sure sucks for my brother, not 2 weeks ago did he buy a PS2 for $250 used :D I think I'll get an Xbox come $200 and Panzer Dragoon Orta time.
i was thinking the same thing. all week SONYS been saying "oh no....we dont have to drop the price" and i KNEW the whole time theyd drop first. they've done it EVERY time. who pays those pr people to write outright lies?Quote:

kof 2001 & Metal Slug 4 ??????????? huh.
-----------------------------
im picking one up, regardless. Strider2 and RType Leo have been gathering dust, ive been Sonyless since last December.
It's rumored they are coming to PS2, a Japanese game vendor has both titles listed in upcoming inventory. Though it's Metal Slug 3 that's mentioned not 4. I'd take both if possible *ahem SNK* . *-neoQuote:

3, my bad. I'd rather have 3 anyways.:)
I don't know. I can understand why everyone's so excited, but I feel like this console war has intensified too rapidly.
It's about damn time, now I get to buy Drakan, Legacy Of Kain 2, Maximo, Twisted Metal Black, Devil May Cry 1 and 2, both Onimusha games,Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, Jak and Daxter, Grand Tourismo 3, Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 4.
By the way has anyone seen the Devil May Cry 2 screens and info in the new PSM?
I forgot about Devil May Cry and Grand Theft Auto 3, sweet. I really want VF4 more than any of the others, but unless it isn't gonna be ported to the Xbox then I'll wait.
Yeah. Looks like the game will take place in the city this time around. Quite a change of pace from the Castlevania style castle setting from the first game.Quote:

Also they mentioned Dante is even more badass than in part one and revealed his new look which doesn't look that much different but cool nontheless. I seriously want to play part 1.
Now that the new PS2's are only $199 I wonder how pissed the guy who bought my broken launch ps2 for $150 on eBay last week is. Just a thought.
Well, What are you waiting for then? Go and get yourself PS2 and DMC now :) With PS2 only $199 and DMC going for $30 in few places its a killer combo. ALso get Shadow Hearts(good rpgs), VF4 and Onimusha(plus Onimusha 2 will be out in August :)).
Yeah, I'm all excited about DMC2. Its coming this winter, and I expect more news to be announced on next week's E3. Plus Capcom's Project Devil.
Have you read the PSM article on it yet? If so, does it bother you that not one of the original DMC team are working on the sequel? I was bothered at first, but when you think about it, perhaps a new team will keep things as fresh and exciting as the first game was. besides, when they talked to the guy in charge of DMC2, he seemed in tune with what the series was all about- "stylish action". Guess we'll see. The city locales look pretty interesting...Quote:

Yeah, I read the article in PSM. It looks really cool, if like the new settings, both medevil like city and skyrise upper town. They said the are fixing the camera issues, so that should make lots of people who hated that in original happy. I think new team will bring some fresh ideas into the game, and I cant wait to see more of it.
Hopefully, more will be revealed next week at E3, possibly the trailer, like they did with first DMC.
