Well, I was basing this completely on Contra. Maybe JU is right and Super C is better in the arcades, never seen it, but Contra on NES is a far better game than Contra in the arcade.Quote:

Well Super Contra also runs on TATE mode. The thing is that the Arcade version felt more like a true sequel, whereas the NES version was more of an expansion pack for the first game. The Arcade verson also had a few more features like upgradeable weapons and a super bomb which can be carried by the player during overhead stages. The only nitpicks I have with the Arcade version is the fact that you have to hold up to jump higher and the weapons you pick up are represented by different guns, instead of the falcon symbols with letters like in the other games. Also, TATE mode kinda made more sense in Super Contra since there were vertical-scrolling areas in the game (as opposed to the faux 3D stages in the original). Heck, the intro alone makes it a better game (the NES version is still a classic though). :p
The original Arcade version of Contra was more or less the same game as the NES game. It doesn't really have much in the way of added levels, but it plays a bit faster it seems (which is why I prefer it).
I'd have liked to see remakes of the NES versions but with redone graphics and a higher difficulty level, similar to what Naxat Soft did with Double Dragon II on PCE-SCD.Quote:

I think these compilation developers are really lazy most of the time, the games themselves almost never have a graphics upgrade or quality bonus materials. Well in the Arcade version of Contra, the last four stages (the snowfield, energy zone, hangar and alien lair) all takes place continously, so they all seem like one big stage when they're really four.Quote:
