Please be a GBA game! or a GC game cus that'd be awesome.
I'm going to assume it's a ps2 game, since the videos are from a ps2 website.Quote:

Same thing, they just called it Legend of Mana when it came out on ps.Quote:

Duh me!Quote:

Here's hoping it's more like the original, with FF:Crystal Chronicle-style graphics.
Ler's not! The 2D thing has always worked for the Mana series and I don't see any reason to change what works. Besides, lush backgrounds and intricate character designs are a staple of the series, and that's just not gonna translate well in 3D. Anyone know which team is making this? I doubt Nintendo is going to let Brownie Brown make a PS2 game.Quote:

Not to start a whole 3D vs. 2D debate here, but you can still achieve lush backgrounds and intricate character designs using 3D. I'm a big fan of the old hand-drawn sprite look myself, but there's no way that Square is going to make a 16-bit Secret of Mana sequel for the PS2. If anything, they could always use the same graphics engine that was used for Unlimited Saga to achieve the hand-drawn look.
Maybe they'll be nice and make a 3D Playstation 2 game, and then port the Secret of Mana 3 game that never made it over here for the Gameboy Advance.

Is Unlimited Saga really as bad as everybody says? It looks so awesome from the screenshots, and I see it really cheap everywhere.
that right there should tell you, yeah, it sucks.Quote:

It seems to be a game that you should go through with FAQ in hand. A lot of it is even more vague then SaGa Frontier, with a stripped-down interface and a lot of roulette wheels. And God forbid you should pass up the side quests, which could leave you so weak that you would be unable to take on the final boss and would pretty much have to start over.Quote:

You also won't be seeing beautiful graphics most of the time, it's usually just a really bland map board game screen and cities are just menus on top of a picture. The battles can look pretty when they want to be, though.
man does US look nice.......
Don't be fooled! The graphics are a trap to lure in gamers for hellish gameplay.Quote:

I just hope this new Mana game isn't crappy like Sword of Mana.
And I agree with Kuro, all that stuff that Legends had was awesome and I really hope they bring it back again. If it is just like another Legends then lets hope they put a bit more structure into like a main story or something. Having the three seperate stories was cool, but there needed to be a main story to follow to tie to the end. Here's hoping!
Hell yes. That is all. I loved Legend of Mana. I don't really care what they do as long as the gameplay doesn't completely suck, and they massage my eyeballs with that handcrafted art loving
SoM did not suck, it was just misunderstood! Yeah, the graphics clipped, yeah, the music sounded assey on the one GBA speaker, yeah, it was really friggin' easy, and yeah, the whole thing came across as half-assed and amaturish, but damn was that game sweet ass sweet!Quote:

I really wouldn't called it sweet. Besides the faults you mentioned (expect for graphics, it brought me back to my Secret of Mana days) other things that sucked was the food planting thing, the leveling system, weapons system, etc. The problem, was that Square tired way too hard to cross Secret and Legend together and it just completely fell apart and the most dissapointing thing was, the story just all out sucked. It felt like it was just going in random places. The only cool part about it was the Secret and Legend refrences, then again after awhile, it gets old.Quote:

It's bad, really bad... I couldn't even get into it, just found it very boring in the story area :pQuote:

The story in Sword did not suck, it was mediocre but it hardly sucked. The graphics clipping and such was just awful, but the battle system was spot on, and the lvl'ing system was the same as it was in SD3 (more or less;) it wasn'y really all that bad. I rather enjoyed it despite all it's faults, I just hope that Brownie Brown gets their act together on their other titles because they were pretty lazy on this title. Then again, who knows, maybe it was Nintendo or Square who forced them to release an unfinished product.Quote:

Please elaborate.... what are these 2 games?
That 2nd game is giving me a boner.
One is a new Tales of game for PS2 (the first set of shots), second is some RPG we'll never see here, with really nice 2D art and (I'm guessing) bad animation.
The first is Tales of Truthia the second is Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana.
Really cus I popped one on both of em. Those games look fucking lucious.Quote:

Almost all of the "2D greats" came from Japan, and if you look at the art done for any of those games it was done in anime style. The graphics on the older systems were not good enough to really protray it well. One you got to SNES and Sega Genesis you could really start to tell. That also does not change the fact that all DiffX does is come into every thread and shit on what everybody else likes. I never see him say a positive thing about anything. If he hates everything so damn much, why does he post here?
I'm sorry but you're just wrong. There were alot of 2D greats that were western and had great art direction. Earthworm Jim, Out of this World, Aladdin, Toejam and Earl 2, etc, etc.Quote:

Japanese doesn't automatically mean anime style. Almost all Nintendo's stuff, various Sega series like Sonic and Shinobi, etc. don't have an anime look to them.Quote:

Sonic usually came across as anime-ish to me what with the big eyes and going into Super Seiyan golden god mode.Quote:

Holding Icepick on a pedistal because you think it will get you into his favor or make you seem wise is stupid. Get with it.
I say this not as a diffusionX supporter, because I had him on ignore for a couple weeks due to him being annoying, but recently took him off because he's actually contributed good discussion on the boards lately. Good discussion doesn't always include: "I love what you love. Lets go have a birthday party and you're invited!" I'm just anti-stupid, inspite of being so on occassion.
for the love of god, someone lock the thread. this is getting embarrassing.

I second the notion that you all need to get off Josh's dick.
Icepick would not be impressed.
tee hee
Anyway, as for the game at hand:
It seems to me that finding a true connection between the original Secret of Mana and any of its sequels is lucritive and, dare I have the brass to say, nonexistant. I'm not certain why they feel the need to slap nostalgia onto an RPG and sell it as though it has any continuity. Why do they do this? I don't know, and I suppose that this is the only answer.
Another answer, ironically destroying the continuity of my own post, would be that it works miracles (by miracles I mean solid gold hats for Squaresoft) for the Final Fantasy series. One thing I remember about Secret of Mana was that it was the first RPG I got to play with my friends, as a unit, mind you I always got stuck playing that bitchy girl wearing pink, but it was fun as hell. If these games can't properly mimic the originals sense of adventure, action and teamwork camaraderie, then it's not a true successor in anything but name.
Sword of Mana had to be my most disappointing game I played last year. Hopefully this new Mana wont suck.
Hey Emode, shut the hell up!!! YOUR NOT OUR DADDIES!!! :)
Shut up.Quote:

As for the 2D/3D thing...
I could live with either, but it will always be my little dream to see someone develop a game with a balls-to-the-wall approach to making 2D as big-budget and flourished as 3D. Except it won't, because it's easier to do it in 3D.
You need to do it better, then.Quote:
