Cherish forever? You mean until divorce, because nobody marries for the right reasons anymore. How you celebrate the important events in your life is up to you. Diamonds too expensive? Then get a fake - if you don't care then why does it matter? Wedding reception too costly? Elope - people who want to or are forced to have been doing so forever. No one wants to listen to you bitch about how much something costs just because you don't agree with purchasing it.

And of course you *could* have a wedding since you're entitled to one seeing as how you're going to be the only couple who got married for the right reasons. The rest of us are just stupid, blind fools who rushed into marriage and are doomed to divorce. :rolleyes:

Not sure what the audio link there contains, but I heard today on NPR that DeBeers is paying a fine of $10 Million for illegal price-fixing practices with General Electric that occured some 10 years ago.

Let's give it up for the Sherman Antitrust Act. :) Justice is served- well, almost. It's a shame that the $10M is the maximum fine. DeBeers deserves to take a harder rap.

You know what effect a 10,000,000 fine will have on them?

It will raise the total price for all diamonds by 10,000,001 this year.

Yes, tis the way you do business. All money spent in making the product and getting it to the costumer is split amung the indvidual products in their sale price.

The terrible part of all this is that the diamond mines are run bascially by slave labor.

Diamonds rare? lol!!! Sapphires are much more rare than diamonds.

I really dont think its up to the American government to put DeBeers in line. They are a South African and English company and its those countries who are faltering in their responsibilities.
