I'm gonna make a bad guy and blow the fuck out of megaton.
Fuck you Lucas Simms, you and your kid are going to eat shit.
Good suggestions, maybe I will d/l Firefly cd.
3... fucking... bobbleheads...
that's all I need. I know where two of them are (been there, but they don't appear), and it's pissing me off.
What a shitty fucking ending.
So, what do you use scrap metal for? The Rock-it Launcher?
Dude in Megaton will buy em, and another dude in the ghoul town will trade you stimpacks and stuff for em.
Which guy in megaton?
The Water Plant guy, you have to go fix a few leaky pipes in town for him first.
I think you need a repair skill of at least 30 though, which shouldn't be an issue since you need that to repair your equipment anyway.
full repair is awesome. Assault rifle at 100% does 50 damage per burst and costs very little AP.
I got "The Terrible Shotgun" that does 72 damage. :)
kill Jack in Evergreen Hills and take it from him. There's a behemoth there, so watch out.
I punched Lucas Simms in the mouth, broke into his place and killed him in front of his kid.
I got it from Smiling Jack and used it til endgame.
There is also some suped up sniper rifle in the northwest somewhere.
I'm waiting to get contract killer until I go full evil. I'm curious though, I went into one of the sewers (the one east of the citidel) and eventually found some ghoul sitting in his crib wearing a party hat.
He went mental on me, will that change when I'm true Evil Cunt?
I just ended the Reign of Grelock, laff.
It's the little things that make this game awesome. Though, if there was some sort of basic cover system like GTA4 or a more advanced one like GOW it would be that much more win.
or like mass effect
Never played it.
"Requiem for AntAgonist" is hilarious.
does anyone know where *Rockopolis* is? I can't find that place anywhere and I have the perk that lets you see where everywhere is
Yeah, I did it reverse order. I guess it's funnier that way.
To be honest i was kind of dissappointed in the quest after reading the letter. I was hoping i'd be able to talk her out of shit by using my mad comic book knowledge and shit.. instead i just said something to her and she gave me the uniform and fucked off.
I just found it amusing, I guess I'm a fan of those who make things and either poke fun at themselves or can at least put in some effort to give a chuckle.
Really, though, can't you see someone on here squall/spo/yoshi writing that exact rant after playing the game?
An update of my 2nd run through.
I'm 75% of the way to level 7 with Evil Cunt. I have yet to walk into the bar in Megaton, my plan is to get Contract Killer then go into the bar and start killing anything that moves.
It's actually not too bad walking around now, even with decent small guns, the high ground versus 5 SM's outside Hubris was easy to do.
I just don't have anything to kill the feral ghouls now that I'm knee deep in the dungeon from the subway right next to Hubris.
It was pretty fun stealing the Declaration of Independence, giving it to the collector man, then killing him and everyone else in Rivet City. Nuking the Marketplace was particularly enjoyable.
I just hit level 8, and found the BurnMaster, which I didn't even know existed. It's located...At the very end of the subway line that's to the immediate left of the front door of Hubris Comics. Quite a march, either 3 or 4 loading screens.
I assume it's just a jacked up flamer, but wow does it burn, even without the Flamer perk it's brutal. My Karma is neutral, so once I get that Contract Killer I'm going to burn MegaTon to the fucking ground.
Combat Helmet + Combat Armor + BurnMaster = Aliens Vibe.
So what's the deal with sniper rifles? I have small guns pretty high and took the perk that gives two handed guns an advantage in VATS, yet my percentage still sucks when using one. I didn't see it listed in the big gun description so I didn't put points in that. I know L trigger zooms but it doesn't seem like a whole lot.
You crouching?
I don't give a fuck who you are, I'm killing you this playthrough.
I'm nearly positive that the sniper rifle is quantified as a "big gun", so maybe get some more points in that. How are you with the hunting rifle? That one I know is a small gun. I've got maybe 35 in big guns and I can rape with the sniper rifle from far off without VATS.
It isn't.
Truth is, the sniper rifle isn't all that much better than a fully-repaired hunting rifle, except for the larger clip, UNLESS you sneak and use the scope. Sneak critical head shots, assisted by the Sniper and Finesse perks, will one-shot kill most enemies.
In sum, the sniper rifle is very situation-dependent. The hunting rifle is a much better all-around weapon.
I use the sniper for sneaky take downs from very far away, the scoped magnum for medium take downs, and the combat shotgun for blowing bitches heads into mush up close.
I haven't touched this game in forever, all these other games have taken up my free time instead. I guess I'll return this to GameFly and maybe pick it up on the cheap later.
So is it worth it to go through the broken bow to find Dr. Pinkerton in the Replicated Man quest? I finally found it after swimming around for a bit and ended up getting killed by those Mirelurk Hunters. Trying to decide if it's worth it to find Pinkerton or just tell Zimmer the dude died.
yeah you get some nifty things from him and a little special something im not going to mention
Just created the Railway Rifle. Neat weapon though all the "choo choo" noise after each shot can get to you..lol I must have put in about 20 hours in the game and barely did the main quest. Its just so much better roaming around and finding locations and stuff.
While I was playing earlier I had the Robocop OST playing in the background, it seriously gave the game a +10 in bad ass
if you do the quest called "Riley's Rangers" you have to go through an old hospitial, tons of good pick ups there
Hospitals?
Where is the railway schematic?
Right.
How does this compare to Oblivion as far as the pace is concerned? I'm thinking about picking this up soon, however, I got bored with Oblivion fairly quickly.
The world is much more dense than Oblivion was, so you'll wander into the crazy stuff a lot more often. There's no long stretches of time without anything happening.
I personally witnessed a war between the super mutants and mercs. It was pretty crazy to see a merc down a sm, take his mini-gun off his corpse, and charge at the guy's green buddies. The two didn't notice me even when I was right next to them since they had bigger enemies to worry about. Seriously, I was hiding around a corner and a merc rushes around to hide right next to me to patch himself up I guess before running back into battle. Never found out since I blew his head off with a shotty and stole his armor.
The game is also a bit more linear than Oblivion, and you can't just wander endlessly in some areas.
Also: I went to get the G.E.C.K.S. and freed a friendly super mutant named Fawkes. He got the item for me and then joined me after I left Raven Rock. He has a gattling laser and is a FUCKING MONSTER with it.
Shit, you get Contract Killer at 14, not 10.
I really want to collects fingers and have a Megatons section going.
:(
P.S. Going without a place to store your shit and a 190 max is teh suck.
Contract Killer is a pretty useless perk IMO, it's not like money is that hard to come by.
House comes out of doing the megaton quest, whichever you do, good or bad.
Two things.
1. I let the sheriff of Megaton die. The quest doesn't seem to progress for me to disarm the bomb. The only option I have is to activate it when I get near it and his kid just bitches about being alone.
2. Where the hell is "The Family"? I've been to the three locations at night (drive in, cemetery and train station?) and just kill a bunch of super mutants.
Go to the Seneca train statiion or whatever its called and go inside. Go past the two ghouls and to the right and there is a man hole cover, climb down that hole and there's a little dungeon to get through before you find them. As soon as you climb up into the Subway, look to the left (I think) and theres a tunnel with a busted train you have to go through. If you see traps you know you're going the right way.
I've already done that part, but please use spoiler tags.
Just store your shit in the nuka-cola machine outside the super duper mart or something. I'm pretty sure they'll stay there forever. I'm using the Reily's Rangers compound as my home base. Lot quicker access than the two houses you can get, plus cashing in on the location finding mini-quest.
I'm only a few hours in, but walking around "outside" early on is like fucking suicide. Super Mutants and I've got a 10mm? Ouch. And what's with that locked cell in the hideaway?
if you go a little bit past Big Town, there is a bridge with a Super Mutant on the other side where you can see the ruins of a church building in the distance. Once you get across, head northeast and you'll see fences and a lot of abandoned train carts. There are two building in the fenced area, and both have doors which lead to The Family haven. Watch out for bear traps and mines....btw, it's a little tricky finding their actual base. If you happen to come across a mine shaft filled with two Mirelk Hunters (crab looking things) then you are on the right path, back track out of that mineshaft and make a left, there is train cart which looks to be blocking your path, but its actually not. One of the members of The Family will be on the other side guarding the actual base to the haven. He probably won't let you in, and one of the dialogue options will be to give him 100 caps. If you do this, he opens the gate.
I gotta say, I'm impressed with the variety of locations in this game. They did a good job with making a wasteland be interesting to explore. The 1950s suburbia virtual reality part was neat stuff as I wasn't expecting anything like that.
Yeah, taking down super mutants early on is really tough. You essentially need to shoot them in the arm, take their weapon when they drop it, and turn it against them, while always hiding behind cover. Though they become a joke after a while, and raiders are a bigger threat since the latter get weapon upgrades, including missile launchers.
I ran into a super mutant with a missile launcher when I was like level 3. :p Never since, oddly enough.
Could be. I don't remember where it was on the map (apart from that it was in the open wasteland, not the city), but he was standing inside a troop transport truck, no other enemies around, and he blasted me when I passed by the opening unawares. I had just enough time to spin around, get off a few feeble shots at him, and then get blasted again, fatally.
I finished this game:
The ending sequence was fucking awesome. Full out war in DC with the huge Brotherhood robot leading the way. The end itself wasn't as fufilling as the previous games but I guess it was pretty significant if you think of it. I just wish the main quest was longer
I'm trying to like this game, and certain elements (collecting things and building up your abilities) are as addictive as any other in the genre, but there's some big things holding it back for me so far.
- Lame-ass NPCs and NPC interaction. It's just extremely artificial (which it is in almost every RPG), but the set it up like it won't be, so I'm constantly disappointed. I love it when someone wants me to come back and see them some time, turns around, and then asks me how I've been since last we met. I've barely done anything that isn't ultimately a fetch quest, either.
- HORRIBLE inventory system...just, completely inadequate.
- Useless 3rd-person view.
- Generally bad animation, but not a deal-breaker.
- Extremely vague quest descriptions. The NPC that gave it to gives a bit more info, but if you save it in the field and come back in a couple days, what's available in your data log barely sets you in the right direction.
- Unfortunately, the repetitive environments and colors are beginning to wear on me. Subway "dungeons" are the worst offenders, but mucked up "facilities" are right behind. Things generally look interesting from a distance, but up close it's all pretty bland (making the underground areas doubly boring).
I really have no issue with the rest of your complaints, but if you set any quest as your active quest you will literally get a marker setting you in the exact direction you need to go, and the game is pretty good about marking objectives on your compass as well as the general direction of the quest.
Blood Ties is the worst quest in the game. No loss.
I dunno man, blood packs are all over the place. Being able to pop 'em for 20 health or sell to Vance for 15 caps each is pretty nice.
They have weight though. I like to travel light and I have like 40 stims anyway. I have 60+ missiles also, though they're not as good for healing. Fort Barrister I think it's called is like a death trap. I was loaded for anything, and I still barely made it through alive. So many well armed enemies with some seriously tough armor. Three shotgun rounds to the face shouldn't be shrugged off.
I thought that's what the blood packs would be for. Time to get rid of all of mine.
Fucking vampires don't deserve to live anyway
EDIT: the jerk disabled embedding. Video here.
Apparently you pull this off by getting any of the humanoid followers, then getting Dogmeat, then killing Dogmeat (or just letting his own stupidity run its course). When you go to recruit another follower, the game will forget you already have one. God bless poor playtesting. :tu:
I'll try that. I noticed I could select a quest, but nothing more about it came up. I noticed the compass markers too, but at times I had 4 or so all indicating NW or something, so it wasn't much help.
I can't believe others wouldn't have issue with the inventory though. I'm at point where I'm having to seperate everything (by item type) into different lockers in the house, and it's a real chore. To be honest, I don't like having to go through the pipboy to do every little thing either. There should be hotkeys to get into your map, condition, or whatever. Maybe it would feel more natural if I was playing with a 360 controller, but the kb/m controls are really limited...can't even assign anything to mouse buttons except L/M/R.
So what does one use to repair the Ranger armor? I got a set from Riley and I'm assuming I won't be killing Rangers to get more armor.
There's a BIG exploit that will essentially allow you to level up without firing a shot.
In Big Town, talk to Bittercup about her relationships. Then, talk to Pappy about here. There will be a speech option that grants XP when successful. You can ask the same question over and over, and if your speech is high enough, you'll be successful 100% of the time. Each time you ask nets you between 25-35 XP, and you can raise a level in about 5 minutes.
I did this on my second playthrough to get the karma achievements for levels 8 and 14.
About Tranquility Lane:
Man, that was awesome and fucked up! It reminds me of that short story "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream". It was creepy as hell when Betty started talking in that old guy voice. Best quest so far. I murdered everyone.
I just finished it. pretty dumb that you have a mutant resistant to radiation with you at the end and you can't send his ass in and live
Lol, I thought the same thing. Not to mention that you have mad resistance to radiation and lots of chems against it, and everyone is convinced you'll die if you go in.
