After looking at some of the more recent novelty game systems, I was quite surprised by how far they've come. In only a couple of years they've gone from the Atari VCS era all the way to 16-bit consoles, and even N64. The Nintendo iQue is a somewhat different beast, with it's flash cards, additional controllers, and AC adaptor, but is relevant nonetheless.
I think there is a lot of potential for these kinds of systems, especially for genres of games that require special input devices. Examples of this would be fishing games, light-gun games, games that use twin-sticks (Assault, Virtual On), Arkanoid-style games (they suck with a d-pad), and music-themed games. The current crop of these systems are still too expensive to really make a big impact, but it's only a matter of time before the cost of these systems is close to that of a specialized controller. And since they are console-independent, they have a much larger market available to them than such a controller. The graphics will of course be a generation or two behind the mainstream consoles, but I don't see this as a problem for the more novel games.
The thing that gets me most excited, however, is the prospect of a TV Game arcade stick that could play CPS1/2 or System 16 games. I don't think it's that far off, either.

I find it sad that the iQue has a better controller design than the GameCube.

I'd have to try it out before making that comparison, but I actually like the GC controller and hate the N64 controller, so I would probably disagree. I'll post impresions if and when I get my hands on an iQue.

Both the Dragon Quest game and Choro Q game intrigue me. Any body every play either.
