I've been playing FarCry lately, and it runs (and looks) beautiful... but every time I play, the game pauses every 20 seconds or so. Everything's going fine, then it just pauses for like less than a second (like if the comp was busy reading something) then it keeps going. It's very regular, like clockwork.
This doesn't happen with every game, but I've seen it happen to other poeple's comps too. I THINK I remember seeing a fix for this somewhere long ago, but I've forgotten it by now =/
It happens with me when I install a game if I haven't recently defragged. It did it with both UT 2004 and Counterstrike, so you might try uninstalling it, defragging, and then reinstalling it.Quote:

Run scan disk too? Maybe a bad section on the HD (i usually run scandisk before defragging).
of course knowing your hardware might help too.
Don't some copy protection systems perform checks on the CD every so often? It might just be reading the CD to make sure it's still in there.
Nah, FarCry just checks the CD when you first run it. I've taken it out during play and it still happens.Quote:

Maybe you have some stuff running in the background?? Scanners, Firewalls...etc. Did you patch the game?
Nothing running in the background that either I or adaware and spybot could find.
Yeah, I patched it and updated all my drivers =/
Is your video card overclocked?
Sounds like your card is running too hot to me, try taking the side cover off and or adding a fan that will blow across the video card.
