I didn't buy ruby/sapphire either... because i finally admitted to myself (after yellow and 40 hours of crystal) that the pokemon games are boring to me.
people still buy this shit?
hard to believe eh?Quote:

Yes.
That said, I'd be 100x more likely to love these games if they were strategy RPGs.
I think the original 150 pokemon had, by far, the most personality out of all the designs that have come after.
IMO, Squirtle basically rules all.
I can't wait for the remakes to come out, I'm going to play all the way through with Squirtle without evolving him to keep him nice and cute.
hah!
Pfffffft.
It's all about Bulbasaur.

I havent tried the ruby sapphire ones yet, I think I'll wait for the remakes.
I played the shit out of RBY and GSC in netbattle and on IRC a few years ago. It was so awesome cause there was actual good competition and figuring out new standards and strategeys and being able to create movesets with underuseds the entire community would use was great.
Then it got bad when no one good played anymore so I dropped that shit.
If only there was an online stadium type game....

Yeah, I used to play netbattle on IRC also. I was never that good, but I used crazy teams. I was pretty well known in the community. Occasionally I still play, but its slightly improved.
http://www.netbattle.net/
You have to go to the forums and register to get the beta version w/ all the ruby/sapphire pokemon on it. If you want to play me come on sometime, or pm me. I always use the same team just cause I think its fun.
PS - getting beat by 12 year olds sucks.
So that netbattle thing is basically just pokemon played over irc?
i.e. no graphics or anything?
No, it has graphics (no animation). And sound I believe too (I turn it off). It is a fairly accurate representation of the video game.
This guy made bots on IRC a while back like early 2002 I think, and you made your teams and movesets and everything and yuou battled over the bots. It was fucking awesome because all the best players were on, and all the little kids who won nintendo tournaments and thought they were hot shit got their asses handed to them.
Netbattle is a program where you battle through that, it has an interface much easier to use but I got bored so quick of killing little kids with a few rare people that were in the same league as me.
lol, mman I think I remember beating you.
Its entirely possible. Did you have a different name on IRC back in the day? And do you remember any of the guys that were really active in that scene?
On NB borkedspork or somethin with spork in it I used with different teams.
On IRC it was this name and somethin else I can't really remember.
Umm, shit I did the IRC thing so long ago its hard to remember. Kevin, articuno64, rexinator, celia, green pikachu, redian, vineon.... I know theres a bunch more can't think of the names.
Hah, I'm gonna d/l this new version of NB just for kicks.
Stop reading my mind.Quote:

This game is hot. Definite buy for me.
And I aggree, Ruby/Sapphire was a big step down from Gold and Silver. No internal clock? No moving characters from Crystal? Why?
Just for the record...
Best Pokemon ever: Psyduck.
I mean, really. It doesn't get much better than that.
Not that I play pokemon or anything. That was so 8th grade omfg.

maybe when battling other humans, but the games themselves are horribly easy. i would kill for a massively multiplayer pokemon game.Quote:

If it was any company but Nintendo peddling this, I would say there's a hope of it happening. But there's not.
Of course, Im sure there's plenty of Nintendo supporters who are gonna come into this thread and call this Nintendo bashing and say Nintendo is following the right strategy because MMOs and SRPGs dont make any money and they shouldnt just cater to a niche audience when tons of people are buying these games as is.
Pokemon definitely needs to evolve and step up instead of being overly simplified... I'll let red/blue slide because of system limitations, and gold/silver is an amazing sequel, but damn Nintendo, ruby/sapphire is like a half-assed step forward and ten steps back.
I guess that's just Nintendo being Nintendo nowadays =/
I thought that this would be a reply.....Quote:

I still have my monacle and tophat though. :)
Hah, getting into stall wars and prediction wars and switch wars is insane. I've had battles where they laste very long from stalling and switching.
I guess you have rto really play the game to know how hard it is.
12.78 million people bought Ruby/Sapphire actually. It's the best selling game this generation (outselling even the mighty GTA3 and Vice City). The main Pokemon series (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red & Leaf Green) has sold a staggering 91 million units to date. It beats out both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy as the best selling RPG series of all time. In fact, it beats them combined.Quote:

Don't psychic pokémon pwn in the original?
I just have been switching between fighting and water pokemon.
Machamps seismic slam looks bannanas. It basicaly drops a globe onto your oponents pokemon, complete with a couple of continents breaking off and shifting to the bottom. Best attack evars.
Ever heard of Heal Bell?Quote:

An online Pokemon Stadium / Colosseum would certainly make lots of money, and yet Nintendo has claimed so far that it can't make money with online games. A simple "matching service" would do the trick, and a "game based" online world like Diablo 2 would totally rock!
I guess Nintendo only wants to use online gaming as another way to make money instead of offering its as an extra benefit to cater to the needs of (mainly) the hardcore consumer base.
