S0 what was it? For me it was Montezuma's Revenge on the Colecovision. I had the Atari 2600 and loved many games before this but, this was the game that locked me in forever. This also was the first game that I totally mastered. I was so good at this game that I could play it with my eyes shut and go off of the sound of my characters feet. So what was that one game for you that locked you in for the long haul?
I'm pretty sure it was TLoZ on nes.

Sonic 2, definitley, Sonic 2
It started with Mario Bros on Nes, then solidified with Contra 3 on Snes, but the nail in the coffin was Street Fighter 2 and its kind.

I'd probably say Joust or even Megamania on the Atari 2600. I used outscore my sister so bad that my mother would punish me to stop that from happening. I'm talking 2 hours for one ship!!
Also, Hyper Dyne Side Arms and Black Tiger established ME as a gamer with some talent. Amazing to see how times have changed somewhat.
Now I'm living in the "Game Tengoku!!" :lol:
super mario bros. on the nes. i'd been playing video games on my atari 2600 before then. the games were pretty fun, but i never played seriously; just played to kill time. when nintendo hit the market, and i got my hands on an nes with super mario bros., it grabbed me and hasn't let go.
yes, i blame my addiction on nintendo.
Stargate was the first game I really loved, but the biggie was SuperMarioWorld, then Zelda LTTP, then Yoshi, then Mario64. But I guess the one with the most impact would be SMW.
The Adventure of Link was the first game I saw on a regular basis. I guess that's the root of my fascination with the adventure/RPG genre.

I think Pitfall and Q-bert were two games that made an impression on me early on.
I was reeled in with Space Invaders, and the Atari 2600, but it was'nt until Miyamoto introduced Donkey Kong, that I was hooked. The game was just so far above anything before it, and it had me so hooked, that I spent $18 in an arcade one evening with a friend.
Yea, Defender Stargate. It came out in the early 80's and was, and probably still is one of the greatest reflex games ever created. I thought about that game 24-7 at the time. It was number one till SMW took gaming up many notches. I also blame my addiction to games on Nintendo.

Super Mario Bros. Thata the very first games I can remember playing, my brother and me got a NES for Christmas in like 87' and I can just remember me and my brother playing Super Mario Bros. for HOURS and HOURS, its still one of the best games of all time.
My earliest video game memories come from Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros, Contra, and RC Pro-Am. Honerable mention going to Mega Man and Tetris for Game Boy, and Street Fighter 2 in the arcades and on the SNES.

Other addictions:
I was addicted to Doom and Doom II for about three months or so a few years back. I literally have stack of FAQs and tutorials on how to make your own levels the size of a phone book.
I played nothing but THPS2 for an entire month, always striving for that perfect combo.
I played Crazy Taxi every day for an entire summer, then the following summer I did the same thing with Smashing Drive.
My current addiction is GTA3.
Demon Attack and Pitfall on 2600 left an impression on me, but it was Megaman, Bionic Commando, and Mario Brothers that sealed the deal for me. Most of the people in my neighborhood sucked at megaman and couldn't pass the iceman stage or the beginning of the Gutsman stage, and when I did it, I started to realize I had some skills.
That's so hard to even remember. When I was just a little squirt I played arcade games a lot( had my 7th birthday party at an Alladin's Castle). I remember especially loving the old Star Wars game, but also played a lot of Paperboy, Discs of Tron, Q-Bert, Centipede, Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Jr.
I got an NES for Xmas '88 and was hooked on Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Then came Zelda and SMB2. Then I got Skate or Die and Mega Man 2, MM2 still being one of my all-time favorites. By then I was hooked(more like I finally possesed some gaming skill, I was always hooked).
There were a few years in high school where I lost touch with the world of video games. I played Shining Force 1 and 2, and the occasional NES or Genesis game during this time but not much else(This was during the days of the Saturn and early Playstation).
I didn't really get back into games until 98 when I got a new SNES and then a PS. As funny as it may seem, I think it was Tetris Attack that roped me back in.
All time? Gotta be Street Fighter II. It hasn't stood the test of time because of all the derivative games, but for my money that was the most addictive game ever released. Forget Tetris.
Most recently? Narcotic er, Record of Lodoss War: Advent of Cardice for DC. Once I got into it, I didn't touch another game or do anything else meaningful with my life until I'd gone through every nook and cranny, 56 hours later.
All time Addiction Hall of Fame has to include R4, NES Super Tecmo Bowl and King of Fighters '98.
though I had been playing for a few years before(if playing when you're 3 counts for much), the game that got me hooked was Zelda. I used to play that game for hours everyday. Just wandering around.
I also felt my first bit of rage when my cousin would tell me about the "other" super mario bros game in japan. then SMB 2 came out and I said, "this one?" and he said. "no"

Well, I started playing videogames constantly when I was two years old, so damned if I remember. My mom says Space Invaders was what I first played to death, but I do vaguely remember absolutely loving Berzerk, so that might be it.
I guess I'd have to go with my Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cart, since that was the first I owned (I know I played games before that, but can't remember).
I fell out of gaming a bit from 95-96 and then games like Tomb Raider and then Final Fantasy 7 got me back into gaming again, seriously that is.
Before someone makes a negative comment, I would like to back Rob up by saying that Tomb Raider and FFVII are great games.
Well, heck yeah! Tomb Raider was a great game, I loved it so very. very much! I just didn't care for any of the sequels until Last Revelation (or whatever that one was where she actually goes through tombs again), from what I played of the demo, I liked it, just haven't gotten to picking up the full version yet.Quote:

Anyone who likes Tomb Raider gets a bonus respect point in my book.
My first videogame experience was Super Mario Bros. like anyone born during the 80s, but the first game I was addicted to was either: Contra or Double Dragon II. Final Fantasy II for the SNES was the first RPG I was hooked on.
The original Tomb Raider was cool, but the series jumped the shark after part III.
i think ethugg and i are the biggest tomb raider fans on these boards. i've stuck with tomb raider since it first hit the playstation. after playing parts 1 and 2 back to back, i took a break to play other games, and now i'm playing part 3. i never minded the whole non-tomb aspects of the part 2 and 3.

I cant pronounce the name of the game . It was something like Osagi Yugimbo or something for the C64.

I started playing at 3 years old. All I can remember is Joust, Miner 49er, and Donkey Kong. So those would be it. Though Super Mario Bros. is the one game that made me think 'I so need to make these things'

I take it there's not a lot of comic book fans here since this is the second time in two days I've seen this game referred to but without the correct name. Dark Horse Comics and Stan Sakai still put it out on a monthly basis. If anyone's interested,it's a great series.
I remember it being a pretty cool game. It had a few RPG elements I think. I also remember that there were sequels for the PC?Or maybe they were some obscure sequels that no one ever heard of , like those dangerous dave sequels.

i've always liked video games since i was really young. i played mario bros. and everything else, but the one game that really grabed my attention was the legend of zelda. that game was so...epic. after that it was metroid. and the game that made me want to be a gamer for the rest of my life was mega man 1.
