iPod Remixed

Okay, let's clear something up here... anybody who says " OMFG price drop!!!" is stupid. See, here is how things have ALWAYS worked: new version comes out, HD sizes get shifted down. Remember when the 10GB iPod became the 15GB iPod? That wasn't a price drop, that was an update on the low-end model. Apple does a hardware update, their lower models end up looking more like the next-higher model, and we get a new high end. The only difference here is that, so far, we don't have a new high-end model.

Anyhow, so-so update. I guess it's okay and all, but it isn't horribly exciting.

I got a 3rd Gen iPod and the only way I could swing the price was from a 100-dollar discount my boss gave me.

So I'm gonna pass on this. I like mine well enough, and another one would be much too rich for my finances. Looks sexy though.

i kinda prefer the last wheel to these new clicky ones. the new battery life is nice, but definately not worth the upgrade.

I have delayed purchasing an iPod because I think it's stupid that I would have to ship it somewhere to get the rechargable battery replaced. Once they start selling the models where I can replace the battery, then I'll get one.

Oh, and a FM tuner would be nice, but not necessary.

The process looks a little too risky, especially since you have to pry open the case at the right spot (for newer models) just to get inside. Although seeing the inside of an iPod, I can now understand why Apple is relunctant to offer a replacable battery option. Oh well, there's always next year when they introduce the next model. I can't wait till the other MP3 players get better, which will force Apple to incorporate more features at a nice price.

Cowdisease, from what people have told me its less complex than modding your PSOne.

In any case, honestly, other companies have been trying to match the iPod for like, the past 5 years and nobody has really come that close yet. The only thing theyve been able to beat Apple on is price. But people have already shown they like paying extra because the iPod is just a better product.

And I doubt that Apple will ever offer one where swapping out the battery is trivial (like a cell phone or whatever). The ones they got in the iPods now last 18-36 months, which is pretty standard for those types of batteries, and bottom line, yes, they do want people to buy newer models.

Opening the iPod is a snap once you've done it, even on ones that haven't been opened before. It's just hard to describe how to make those tabs unclip on paper, you have to do it yourself.

Well I guess I'm stupid, because I'm fucking jazzed about keeping $100 while getting the 40g model I've wanted for over a year. Oh my!
