Another FF7 game on the way?

July 20, 2004 - There's more Final Fantasy VII in store for the masses in the future, according to the latest issue of Japan's V Jump Magazine. The monthly comic magazine reveals that outside of the Final Fantasy Advent Children DVD and Final Fantasy Before Crisis wireless game, Square Enix has plans for a huge title as part of its "Final Fantasy VII" project. The magazine goes on to state that "that character" will appear in the game, with what appears to be the shadow of Vincent in the background (Vincent was one of the lesser main characters in Final Fantasy VII).

This marks the first time that solid hints have appeared on further Final Fantasy VII titles from a major source. Previously, Square Enix posted advertisements on trains in Japan suggesting that more Final Fantasy VII could be in the works (for a look at that ad, see this IGN Wireless article).
We hope to hear more from Square Enix on the matter as the upcoming Final Fantasy VII titles near Japanese release later this year.

That's pretty amazing, nothing on FFVII, probably the most popular in the series, from 1998-2003 then all of a sudden in '04 Square's churning out three different projects relating to it.

While I'm sure Advent Children will be great, Square really should have just used the continuing adventures of Cloud & Sephiroth to make FFVII-2, it would have outsold just about every FF before it here in the States. Seph was probably the second coolest FF villain ever behind Kefka and one of the only ones to survive past the ending of their game, they could have done so much more with him. I really hope AC delivers.

Kefka was a shitty villain. Completely one-dimensional, a sad parody. Sephiroth was a lot better than Kefka was, simply because he wasnt so 1D, but it also didnt help that he was a total pussy.

But I digress. I really really really really wanna see another FF7, on a proper system. None of this DVD, wireless game bullshit, and I definitely dont want to see it on the fucking Game Boy. Put it on PS2 or Xbox, Square, and do it right.

Kefka was a huge mental case who poisoned thousands....he was awesome.

Sephiroth was great too but nobody comes close in my eyes to Kefka yet. He was just that huge villian that you wanted to kill.
I played FF3 when it was on SNES in it's time not after so maybe that does something but I definetly feel there is a lot of emphasis on FF7 when it wasn't that great. It was good, but just because it was 3D people seemed to have gone nuts.

Kefka and Sephiroth are probably the best Square villians to me.

They should bring back Ultros and Chupon in the next Final Fantasy.

Kefka was awesome.

I'm interested to see where they go with this game. Vincent could be a cool character in some sort of Devil May Cry kind of action game.

Oh, and Golbez owns every other FF villain. :D

Kefka, Golbez, and Sephiroth were awsome, Ultimecia, Kuja (+ the last boss), Sin, (and whoever FFX-2's boss was) all sucked. Another point of FF's decline in greatness.

Ok, Zemorous wasn't all that good for a last boss. (I hate last bosses that jump out in the last 5 Minutes:S)

Like I said, Kefka sucked. He was totally one-dimensional and a parody of a bad guy. He was about as interesting as that cardboard cutout of Darth Vader they got at FYE in the mall. When that stupid music came on and he jumped around like an idiot and had that shitty laugh it was like OMG HES UP TO NO GOOD >_<. And thats all.

There was nothing to him. And RPGs are supposed to be story driven. I at least want my bad guys to be fleshed out a bit

Sephiroth may have been a little bit too angsty, even bordering on emo, but he was about 10000X better than Kefka and showed that Square's writers continued to evolve.

Also, Sephiroth is hotter.

I disagree (this contains ff6 spoilers)

Kefka started as a normal villian and eventually turned more evil as the story went along. Eventually he just snapped and anything in his way paid. (Towns, his friends, Cid, Doma etc etc)
By the end of the story he was so evil that he didn't even know what he was doing and he then formed into the 3 forms you had to defeat to beat the game.

Sephiroth was in no way related to anything emo. Worst analogy ever! :)

In a lot of ways Sephiroth and Kefka are very similar. Both awesome.
I mean Kefka through the Emperor off a freaking floating island!!
Sephiroth destroyed a whole corporation (near the start).

They both pwn.



Golbez was kick ass, I totally forgot about him. His turn to the good side was pretty awesome.
PS: Emo is for kids who know their parents even think they are losers. :P

Kefka > Sephiroth

Sephiroth was eye candy and deadly sure, but kefka was just pure evil. Kefka made you hate him, Sephiroth made you want to be bad just to try and be that cool. Kefka was by far the evilest, the worst.

Sepiroth= best villian.

FF6- best final fantasy overall.

You're insane. Kuja sucked? The last boss I'll give you and I'll even go as far as to say I don't like my bad guys in thongs and whatever else he wore, but his character was awesome. It was Seph with a bit more definition.

I find the villain going on his path to world destruction because his plot for world domination got interrupted by his own impending death a lot better than "Oops! He done got TOO nutty!"

i've been playing FF7 lately, seeing how excellent the game is in comparison to the god awefull FFX, i'm really excited about this.

heck, even a remake of FF7(on th GC) would do me good :D

As soon as Vincent was mentioned, I thought of dmc. Is it confirmed to be a traditional RPG?

I am glad to see that Square has finally figured out that they haven't done a traditional RPG right since 1997, so they want to recapture lost glory. What they need to learn now is that FFT should become the standard for all FF games, not FF7.

Nope. In fact a PS2 "Vincent May Cry" game has been rumored to be in development for almost a year now... no doubt that's the new FFVII game (rather than FFVII-2 or a FFVII Reame like some have speculated).

I played them all at release... kefka sucks.. kain was a better villain, and he was on your team most of the time.

If this turns out to be Vincent May Cry, I'll bet anything that it'll be mediocre at best. Square doesn't have the best track record for action games, but hey, since there's a FFVII character in it, it'll sell a ton anyway and fanboys will force themselves to love it no matter what.
