Ya. I was going to hint at this in my article before bandit arrived with his PS2 highlight seconds before me.
I definitely predict a price drop (not that it will help me any since I already got the system in tow) but great news for fence-sitters.
As for Nintendo - I don't think they'll be dropping their prices, but may perhaps announce some new special packages. Of course, we'll all know for sure Tuesday afternoon at the E3 Media Press Conference next week... :)
Nintendo at least better shave 50 bucks off that price tag with their currently deprived lineup. They need Triforce to work its magic ASAP.
Nintendo doesn't need to lower it's price at all, it's been superior to the PS2 hardware wise and was cheap at the get go. Hell alot of games prices have been slashed already when I visited EB and Funco, PS2 was definitely overdue and X-Box I think would be wise to lower it to 249, 199 is kind of too low after all it's offering as weird as it sounds.
i guess this means that the next faze in the console wars is about to start.
just about 4 more days... things should get really interesting.
now the question is which system to get, PS2 or XBox???
Ima go flip a coin now. bye.
(i think im feeling the BOX though)
Time to jump off the fence. I *will* own all three now. Muahaha!
-Kevin
Well the X-Box is now $199. It will be interesting to see what comes of this now that it's an even playing field. :D
Wow. And to have all this go on right before E3. Man. It makes me really anticipate it.
And the coin says... PlayStation 2. Wait, that was me!
It's about time. The X-Box is finally hitting a price point that could make it a mass market seller.
ima get an XBOX tommorow morning, I made up my mind....
Hunter the Reckoning and Morrowind by the end of this month...
E3 is gonna be a cool. root for your favorite corporation.
Why does everyone neglect to mention gamecube?
With titles like StarFox Adventures, Metroid Prime, Mario, Zelda and the recently released Resident Evil, Nintendo will probably take a wait and see stance. I did hear that they are lowering the prices on the GC accesories though.
GC didn't have a price drop though. Plus he may already have one.
Anyway, I'd say wait for E3 before buying it, but if you can't wait go for it.
Well, that was my excuse for getting one...as if morrowind, JSRF, and SEGA games aren't enough.
Very nice, I am now quite happy.
Because it's seen one meaningful release in the last five months, and isn't getting another for 5 more, unless Eternal Darkness makes it out on time. I've got a Cube and...let's just say I'm catching up on all those old PS rpgs and DC games.Quote:

I'm damn tempted, but not yet...*looks at pile of shame*
MS is going to be losing quite a bit of cash to stay in the console race, at least they have the games to get the consumer dollar. *-neo
say what....Quote:

pile of shame???
edit: any one know of the XBoxs' currently in the stores come with the S controller or the original?
A pile of shame was a phrase (to my knowledge) that was coined by our very own Nick on the old GG! boards, it refers to that giant stack of games that you have neglected to play or put down and never return to, a back log of games, if you will.
As for this price drop, hmmm, that was quick, I may get one this summer.
Key word being may.
MS has no plans of packing the S controller with the system, but some stores will let you trade in the old controller for half off the price of the S. I'm keeping both so I can stick my friends with the crappy controller. Ha! What they get for not buying their own Xbox! :)Quote:

I wish they would cut the price of the controllers. I only have one, and I hate having to pay 40 bucks for one, I'd rather buy a game.
.....yeah. :confused:Quote:

even at 200 bucks i still dont find the games on the Xbox worth the price of the system
I have 5 PS2 games (all exclusive PS2 games)
and i have 6 GC games (all exclusive cept 1)
so im really happy with both systems
i dont think for me Personally i could find 5 Exclusive Xbox games worth owning
and eternal darkness is only a month away thatll add another exclusive to my GC camp
There shouldn't even be a question about which system to purchase now that they are all at $199.
The XBOX is by far the most powerful console on the market with some truly great games, Halo, Rallisport Racing, Jet Grind Radio Future, Gun Valkyrie etc.
And you've got titles like Shenmue 2, Dino Crisis 3, Metal Gear Solid X, NBA2k, Virtua Fighter 4 enhanced, Soul Calibur 2 and the update to the greatest football game on the planet, NFL Fever 2003, all waiting in the wings.
Throw in broadband support and it's a no brainer.
I don't see how people who like games as much as we all do are so extremely picky that they could find less than 5 games for any of the next gen systems currently available. Shit man, that's like being Roger Ebert and seeing 5 movies a year.
Well the Xbox has Morrowind and ego coming out this year.......but I doubt that everyone will enjoy them. Some people might get bored because of the openess of the gameplay , and lack of solid objectives. But I am looking forward to these games......its just my opinion..
The xbox has a bunch of sega and capcom games games like HOD3 ,Crazy taxi next , that new panzer game , dino crisis 3 , and tehci . But if these games arent Xbox exclusive......then I definetely wont be buying the box till it hits $100.
Another good bit of news for the box is that the console port of Dues Ex 2 is exclusive to xbox. Hooray!
Not to mention I'm excited about Project Ego and Splinter Cell.
I'm quite happy with the lineup of Xbox games, and look forward to some of the shameless pc ports we can expect to see because of the lack of early japanese support.. :D
I can't wait for Morrowwind, VF4.1, PDO, the upgraded Shenmue 2 (I may need a modchip for my Australian Xbox, I'm not sure there'll be a euro release) Doom3, the Unreal games, MGS:Substance, GP4(the Geof Crammond F1 game) etc
I'm happy for Cube and ps2 to do well but I secretly wish they'd die in favour of the box. (heh sorry. But I'll be getting all 3 eventually)
In all the announcements I have heard, every game you have listed is exclusive, unless you've caught some news rescently that I missed. Well, I guess it they do decide to drop exclusivity we'll know in days. For now, I've heard nothing about any Sega exclusive officially going multi.Quote:

The price drops now, biotch. :D
Well, The Battlle continues :)
Both PS2 and Xbox have some great games coming out in the future, and both are worth our attention. So what if Xbox more powerful than PS2, I want to play Onimusha 2 and DMC2 on PS2 more than Shenmue 2, or Morrowind? Just a matter of preference.
Bleh. I'll pick up whichever console ends up coming in second and has more games I want to play.
Right now it's looking like the Gamecube.
Now with all 3 systems reaching the same price point, it really comes down to the games becoming the deciding factor more than ever.
I'm sure none of the companies will be raising the price of their systems after lowering it, so basically it's never too late to wait till the games that really attracts you to the particular system arrives for it to pick it up...
Besides, as several others have mentioned already, most of us should have a few games in the pile of shame to keep busy for now, or at least until after E3. :D
Well I see an XBOX in the near future for me, maybe this summer... now I just need to make some room to fit it in my overstuffed entertainment center :)
Well they'd better be exclusive , otherwise Ill just wait for a price drop . Im upgrading my PC soon , so Im not particularly excited about the FPS stuff , as I'll probably get the superior version on the PC.Quote:

Anyway, now I want a Box, but I have no money. :( I was kinda hoping they'd drop it to $149. If sales don't pick up, I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
I'll check out the lineup at E3 and decide then.
because its a matter of taste just cause we like games doesnt mean we like every single game out there being made ill be the first oen to say im picky as hell now adays and unless i see my self putting real time into a game i wont buy itQuote:

because of this new price drop, brand new systems that fell out of a truck with 2 games of my choice (also brand new) will only cost me $200.
so i think im gonna wait for Hunter to come out, and get JSRF too.
You are, like, so cool. Someday, I hope to be a felon, too.Quote:

Hey, Duke Togo's a smoove criminal.
Damn my timing is good. I just traded my Xbox for a Japanese PlayStation 2. I'll rebuy the 'box when something I care about it released, i.e. Panzer or Dino Crisis.
why would i buy something off myself if i just stole it?Quote:

After the price drop, there is no reason for not picking up whatever systems are lacking from your collection.
I will finally pick up a PS2 just for the sake of having one because of the games I own for it. I have been using my roomate's for the past 2 years.
This post is for all the people that said they didn't want to fork over $300 for either system. Now if you just don't like the games on a particular system then that's another reason all together.
word to your mother,
Dammit. I just bought one last month. I knew I should've waited.
Coming from a fellow Gamecube owner, I would say that if I had the choice right now (of all the $200 consoles) it would probably be my last pick. It seems that nothing is coming out gaming wise in the next year besides sports and delays. One of the points of getting it was getting the cheapest system, but oh well.

Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Reident Evil 0, Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Metroid, Turok, Capcom Vs SNK 2, Lost Kingdoms, Phantasy Star Online, Dragon's Lair 3D, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters, Die Hard Vendetta, Super Monkey Ball 2, Bloodrayne, Rayman 3, and 007: Night Fire are nothing but sports and delays (and dont say something will deffinetly be delayed cause you dont know if it wil)
now mind you thats just the games that have been announced and E3 is right around the corner if your going to say all the games coming for a system are what ever at least get it right obviously its not all sports and delays
You forgot perfect dark and mario kart .But god knows how many of these games will actually be released this year.
WHy are we talking about Cube games in Xbox thread anyway?
jhonpv was explaining his reason for not wanting a box.
i was replying to tones post about how nothing but sports and delays were coming to the GC i was expressing the fact that there was more than sports and delays coming to the GCQuote:

It seems that I'm a lot more content with my GC at this point than everyone else. I own Monkey Ball, Resident Evil, Smash. Bros, THPS3, Rogue Leader, Soccer Slam, and NBA Street. I have gotten a good month or two(even more in Smash Bros. case) of playing time out of each game I own. I feel like the GC has a much better library of games right now than any other system has had coming out of the gate sans the Dreamcast, and I have yet to experience a dry spell where I don't touch my system for weeks/months. The wait for Wrestlemania X8 and Eternal Darkness will be trying times though, because unlocking all the extras in RE can only last for so long. Still, the fall holds great things for both GC and Xbox owners but personally, I am more excited with what Nintendo has lined up.
Buying stolen goods is illegal. :)Quote:
